Does anyone know where to get a longer shift linkage? I'm talking about the tube that is threaded at both ends. I need one about 3/4 to 1" longer than the one on my bike which is 8 1/2".My bike is 96 S-1. Thanks. Fred

You can make an "extender" for the linkage with a short piece of threaded rod (or a machine screw with the head sawed off) and a coupling nut. The "X-1 Files" page has a paragraph about how to improve the 2001/2002 shifter that explains how to do it:

Your 96 may require different sized hardware, but the principle is the same.

Aaomy, 9.5" length would be fine, but I don't know the thread size, one end is left hand threads. Fred

Actually, the coupling nut idea seems like the simplest solution. I need to get a longer rod so I get my range of adjustment back on my relocated shifter.

Aaomy, do you have a collection of reverse thread taps?

nope not too many left hand thread taps kicking around.. a few but not a lot.. if you knew the size i could look.. try measuring the od of the thread and measure 1" of thread and count the number of "points" or an 1/2" and double the # that will give you threads pre inch..

djkaplan: were you the guy checking out my shifter set up? broken foot peg thread? if so i may be posting some more projects tonight!!

hey guys been promising more teasers of the air cleaner assembly..

its designed to work with the stock s2 cover and use a 2" k&n element, the cover bolts to the top plate and seals against the filter. always hated that stock cover post in my venturi!! center cone to help control turbulence and smooth the increase in air velocity.. will post more picts when i start posting the rest of the projects i did to her.. still putting her back together right now.. aaron
