I am looking to make my 2000 S3 a little sportier...any ideas? I would like to put some different bars on it, but I know nothing about what's out there, and my local dealership barely knows what a S3 is! Thanks for the suggestions.

Step1: Make sure you have American Sportbike on speed dial.

The S3 came with 2 bars, "standard" and "touring"
The standard bars were the same as all the other tube-frame bikes (post-S2) and the "touring" later wound up on the Blast.

If you have about a 2.5" rise in the bars, you have the touring ones. You can easily swap on the standard bars (i think full price is $40, eBay is about 1/1 that).

If your bars have only about a 1" rise then you ought to contact Crossroads about bolting their lower bars on.

Banke and others made/make rearsets for the S3 also. You could always try one of the single-sided swingarms or a chain conversion.

Other things to make it "look" sporty - make sure it has the stock windshield, not aftermarket. Look at different turn signal and mirror mods to pull those components closer to the bike.

Performance-wise; race kit (or at least ECM, full exhaust and mod your air cleaner) is the first step. Second step is calling a race shop (see the Sponsor pages on BadWeb)

Come down to Homecoming the first week/weekend in June and see what everyone else has done.

I definitely have the touring bars; those are coming off asap! I do have the exhaust covered and just put on a forcewinder (for knee clearance and looks more than anything). Thanks for the info, I will check ebay. Do you know of a p/n?

Just find bars that came off of a X1, S1 or M2 and you will be good. Blast bars are tall so stay away from them. Crossroads bars are too low and will hit your fairing so they are out. I would also recommend some billet foot pegs and shifter pegs for a sportier look. The rubber ones are ugly! Rearsets are good but will hamper your touring ability unless you are young and nimble.

Highly recommend these:
foot peg risers
They raise the pegs a little, but not aggressively so like true rear sets do. I was touching my shifter toe down too often before I put those on my S3. If you want a true sportier position, we have the last two sets of M2/S3 Banke rear set kits in stock as well. Banke won't be making any more of them, when they're gone, they're gone for good. See here

Whoops, no picture, will get that fixed. See Banke's picture here

Hmm, well I am young, but not necessarily nimble (yet). I think the foot peg risers would be a good idea, along with the new pegs. I did find some bars off a M2. One more question for you guys: I believe my exhaust is ceramic coated because it looks like this. The area of the pipe where the old breadbox would sit above is all scratched up and the factory box was melted in that same spot. I think the plastic melted on it, and then someone tried to "scrub" it out. It really looks bad. Does anyone know if there is a good polish out there for ceramic coated exhaust, or do I need to have the whole thing recoated?

If you've had the bike running and the pipes look like that, they're coated. HPC sells a polish/cleaner, but I don't know if it will help. You might warm the bike up good first. Or call HPC and ask for advice. They're good guys.

BD- AFAIK the Blast bars *are* the S3T bars. Too bad the Crossroads won't work.

Make sure the forcewinder doesn't have the bowl vent block (anyone got the link to Aaron's posts on the subject?)

Bowl vent on Forcewinder not an issue on a 2000 S3 as it is Fuell injected.

Just a couple of small simple mods I did. Relocate the horn from beside the motor to inside the fairing. Gott}a see that engine!
Move the mirrors from stock spot to the side of the dash. They still work if placed right and don't stick out like ears. Use backing plates inside the dash for support!
I did a trick lic plate/turn sig mount on mine too. will get pics if anybody wants.

Al, I think I'm confused. The rearsets show that they come with shifter assembly #5777 but I think that's the shifter I needed for the relocators. They can't both use the same shifter can they?

So what do you do with that funky spot where the mirrors originally were?
One more dumb question...
I put a forcewinder on and now the engine mount bracket sticks out. Will cutting off that chunk damage the integrity of the mount?

Jason,
Yup, they use the same basic shifter. The rear set kit moves the footpegs AND the shifter pivot point back. It uses the mounting points for the derby cover for the Shifter pivot block, as opposed to the big primary cover bolts as per the stand alone 5777 shifter.

Ah, so it just uses a longer intermediate linkage then. Do you still have a set left?

from the seating position you can see under the steering and under your arm , i had to use a curved mirror to widen my view , but if your going faster then the rest you don't really need a mirror
picture gives an idea ,in real you can see more
(this on has an crack , i have a new one made)
