Does anyone have any knowledge about installing clip ons, what is done about the headlight mounts? Can they be slid down on the fork enough,or must the headlight be removed? How about clubman type bars, I don't like them as much, but does anyone make some high quality ones, maybe alloy or three piece or something? This is for my street/track S-1 Thanks Fred

Clip ons are the best for your S1 if you want it for the track. But you need to have a slim tank for them to work. The headlight mounts just need to be slid down a bit for the clip-ons to mount.

Not sure about your S1, but on my 2000 M2, you can switch the headlight mounts around (upside down and on opposite sides) to gain clip-on clearance without altering the headlight height too much.

Use these instead. Clip ons are a bit of torture on a tube frame, IMHO

Fginn....I'd highly recommend the ones that Al sells. I have a set on my S1W. Not too bad on the back and wrist.

It does take a little "getting used to" for low speed cornering. I have a hard time switching from my S3T to the S1W for the first few miles.

This is the closest I could find...



My horn button just barely touches at full turn. Nothing on the throttle side touches.

BTW....because the S1W uses the Manta tank, I'm using the second set of bars (in the Al's post). If you have the narrow tank S1/M2, then you'd use the other bars.

BTW, The plates are different from one type to the other, but the bars are the same. They have 7 degree down angle. They used those on the XB version as well, I didn't like the down angle. I had them machine some with 0 degree down angle, a little bit shorter. I haven't tried those 0 degree ones on a tuber, but I'd bet they would be kinda cool, a little less aggressive, and might miss the tank better. Not sure. Just a thought.

At one time Air-Tech fiberglass (aka the May-Fit Co.) sold clip-ons for an S2, with a 2" forward kick to avoid damaging the tank. Any of those around or anyone else making such an animal? Thnx.

I've been running clip-ons on the street on my S1 for a few years now. The first few months are a little torturous but you get used to it. On the highway the wind blast supports your upper body unless you tuck in. I love 'em. They just feel right.
