OK, As many of you M2 owners know the plastic rear or tail cover just sits and shakes like mad @ idle. This I just cant stand. I was wondering what needs to be done to put the X1 tail and seat onto an M2?

You will need to get a X1 oil tank then, cut your existing sub frame off, NOT including the lower oil tank mounting tabs.

Then weld Bosses into the rear down tubes to bolt a X1 tail onto your M2.

And I am not sure how well a X1 seat will mate up to a M2 tank.

If you just want to keep it from shaking...take a look at American Sport Bike Carbon Fiber M2 Under Seat Panel. It cleans it up, as well as stiffens it. It doesn't rattle around at all.

ORRR I just thought of this, you can put a tail from a 97 or 98 M2 on there.
It is more narrow and won't vibrate at all...

You will have to make a small notch for the fuse panel and you can even run the bigger tank with the seat, OH BTW you will also need to get a 97-98 M2 seat.

I thank you all for your input. I just got the X1 cover,seat, & oil tank. I hope that some point this next week I will start in on the conversion. I will take photos as it gose.
If anyone that has done this would like to give any hints or warnings I am all ears.

Well I just turned my M2 into a S1 so I realy can't give you any hints on how to mount a X1 tail, But i will tell you this.

Keep the motor in the frame to keep everything in line.

Don't cut anything off till you are sure you want to.

Disconnect the battery before you start welding.
(make sure you use gloves too slag hurts ; ) )
((cover anything you don't want slag getting on))

OK, The X1 tail, seat, & oil tank show up today.
Only down side is at this time the the gas tank & other front plastics are with my airbrush guy. So getting a true fitting cant happen at this time.
From the looks of things I should be more then able to work over the tail on the inside. Alittle nip here a cut there and no frame cutting will be needed. For that matter the oil tank may even stay M2. It looks as the X1 tail was a part of the frame or brace for the frame on the X1. Not so with the M2 I only need it as a cover. This frees me up and lets me cut and grind out parts of the tail on the inside.
For the seat. The mounting tab that slides under the tank will need to flip over. Also the mount in the center will need to go. But all and all the front of the seat is the same cut, just lower on the tank.
I wish I could put my pics up... But my computer is a real pos & has no room to even load a pic. At the same time I hope most of you understand the money is needed elsewhere.

Can someone help me. I have a '99 X1 and I am looking for nice saddlebags for a reasonable price? Also, I am in the Army and going to be stationed in Fort Hood, TX in about a month. Does anyone know of great rides in the Central Texas area?

I use the Eclipse soft bags on mine. They fit well on the M2 & the X-1 tail. I wish I could give you a part # but I got them off e-bay.

Thanks for the tip. Right now I am waiting for an ignition switch for my bike. It has been about a month and the dealership that I am working with put the part in as a repair order instead of a critical order and now it is about to come in. It is frustrating because here in Arizona the weather is awesome.

The first move was cutting the center brace of the X1 tail. Then grind about a half inch off each of the 4 mounting points @ the front of the tail.
The M2 is wider then the X1 around where the frame comes togather @ the X. Just behind the point where your tank bolts in.
The seat is going to be the big pain. The mounting plate on the X1 tank vs. m2 is not even close & will take some glass and plastic work. This is not for the light harted. I am lucky to say I have a friend that has plastic vaccum molder. He makes custom gauge pods for race cars. So I can make my own custom seat plate and get it covered. Once I get my first mold made I should be able to knock a few out and have some for sale.
Anyway I have pics but no room on my POS computer. I will see about getting them up soon.

UPDATE... I got around to knocking off over 1.5" off the lower mounting points for the frame. It fits like a glove without mods to the top mounts.
Now I see I will need to notch the tail for the oil line. Other then that tack weld in four mounts for the tail and it will bolt on.
The seat is another story. At this point I will need to cut the front of the seat base, remove the mount tab, then drop the angle to the tank by only 3". After that is just waiting for the recover of the seat.
Yes, I have been taking photos and will post them. I just dont have the room on this POS computer I have today. Sorry....
