All the parts are Ebay parts from a 99-00 R6. Hacking the frame was the most traumatizing part. I cut the frame just after the upper mounts for the oil tank (I wanted to keep all the stock stuff where it was) and at the base of the lower stock subframe weld points. The R6 subframe had to be notched at the front (there is a mount there for the tank on the Yam) to clear the rear of the M2's tank. The plastic R6 undertail piece had to be cut to clear the oil tank. Other than that, it was a question of mocking it up and figuring out where to weld the new supports. I have two pieces of pipe stock welded to the tube supporting the tank (underside) and fabricated two brackets to support the lower mounts at the lower frame tubes. The set-up keeps the oil tank where it belongs and looks almost stock. By the way, the frame on my bike is NOT chrome moly. The guy I had weld up everything is a race car fabricator and makes chrome moly cages all day; he said that my bike was mild steel, based on the welds used at the factory and the look of the metal when sanded to remove the powdercoat. FYI on that one. I've got less than $500 on this and still have the stock rear bodywork and seat (which are for sale if anyone is interested). Thanks.

Tavs, nice job. I've been looking for an R1 tail section to do the same thing. I love it when somebody beats me to it. Then I can copy:)

Steve,
That's pretty wild. That Norton was sitting across the street from Horn Motors. I used to live in Herndon. I actually grew up, (as much as I've grown up) in Sterling. I sometimes trailer my scooter up there and ride with an old friend from Purcellville. I'll try to let you know next time I do. We could get together and ride. Maybe a day at Summit Point or something.

er, Thanks, Rex . . . .I'm kinda fond of it myself . . . . .

this winter, serious weight reduction program (me AND the scooter ) . . . .

also, gonna (finally) subtly trim the rear body work to JUST cover the frame rails .. .should lighten up the rear of the scoot, visually . . . .

also, the driving light on the airbox support will go away , , , ,it was an experiment, andd it doesn't work very well(fork soaks up 50% of the light) . . .will likely get a couple of small PIAAs, and mount em below the headlamp . . . .

one more comment please . . .my personal jury is still out on the aluminum belt guards . . .some day I look at em and "cooooooool" . . .other days, well, not quite so cool . .. .any comments?

(stooopid question . . .of COURSE there'll be comments )

As I understand it, this X1 Trike was built by the Trike Shop in the UK.

Some guy who was standing over it was telling me it was difficult to build. I didn't think it looked that difficult at all. They'd built a simple subframe that was bolted up to the swing arm carrier, and if memory serves me, they'd also used the front shock mount too,by carrying a lenght of rod to it. The whole set-up looked pi$$ simple.
