It WAS Aaron!!! I KNEW it. (like there was ever really any doubt).

Kahuna: I'm glad you asked that question. Cause I just added a new BBS command known as "\imagelink". Use it like this...

First of course, you get the URL of an image you would like to post, let's use http://www.teamelves.com/Templates/lsr_navbar/lsr_nav_r1_c4.jpg as an example. Then you type it into your post as follows:

\imagelink{http://www.teamelves.com/Templates/lsr_navbar/lsr_nav_r1_c4.jpg}

and the result is something like...

Y'all got that? For your easy reference, I'll be adding that new feature to the BBS Formatting help documentation. Just remember to go easy on the bandwidth. Some of us are still using dial-up and anything over 100KB really starts to pull down page loading speed.

I've got another one up my sleeve that will allow you us to post a thumbnail that will automatically link to the full size URL if clicked. Better things are comming. :)

Oops! I thought it wasn't a secret!

Sorry Aaron!

I don't know that it was, perhaps just modesty, perhaps something more, who knows what goals lurk in the mind of Aaron. I have my suspicions, but will hold back my fingers from further speculation.

Blake,
(sort of keeping within the theme of the heading here)
Are the new mods something like Vik and others came up with a year or so ago? I remember there was a bunch of activity for linking thumbnails to offsite photos and such. Are you making it a simpler process?

Mike, good question. The short answer is .. yes and no. The \imagelink{URL of pic} command is all new and allows the display of non BBS resident jpeg and gif files directly on BBS pages. Vik figured a way to use the \newurl{URL, text title here} along with the \image{text title here} command to post a thumbnail that would when clicked open a new window diplaying the full sized, non-BBS resident pic of interest (see scenario three below).

With the new \imagelink{URL of pic} command we have all kinds of options.

There are four different possible scenarios with posting a thumbnail preview as follows:

1. Thumbnail pic file and full size pic file are resident on your computer (not already on a web page somewhere).

2. Full size pic file is an existing web accessible file with available URL, but there is no existing web thumbnail, so you must create a thumbnail version on your computer. This is probably going to be a prevalent situation.

3. Thumbnail and full size pic files are both existing web accessible files with available URL's.

4. Thumbnail pic file is an existing web accessible file with available URL, but there is no existing full sized pic on the web. This is the silly case to be neglected. No full sized pic means basically you have no acceptable file to work with. The point is moot

Scenario 1 is the one I'll be working on. Scenarios 2 and 3 can already be accomodated with a little Eeeeekish trickery as follows: :)

Scenario 2 can already be accomodated as follows:

\newurl{URLfullpic,\image{your text title here}}

Scenario 3 can be handled as follows:

\newurl{URLfullpic,\imagelink{URLthumbpic}}

Where "URLfullpic" is of course the full URL of the full sized pic to which you wish to refer. Likewise for "URLthumbpic".

Interestingly you can combine either of the \image{} or \imagelink{URLfullpic} commands within the \newurl{URL,hyperlink text here} command. Simply insert either of the image based commands in place of the hyperlink text field. That's how the scenario 2 and 3 solutions above work.

Cool stuff for the web weenie in us all. :)

And for those wondering how I can amazingly post the above BBS commands and have them remain in text form... a leading "\" escapes the command function. If you are also using BBS formatting in your post, you should also put a leading "\" in front of the "{" and "}" of the formatting command text you wish to display.
