For me, the resolution is from a Queen song.
"Get on your bikes and ride!"

With a Schwinn Airdyne in the living room and my new ( used ) high racer on a trainer in the man cave, both in front of tv's, there's a slim chance by spring the hills on my block won't literally kill me.

I have found, while riding the Airdyne, that when playing FPS video games, I tend to back pedal frantically when a big monster attacks and I'm running backwards in screen desperately shooting...

Predictions for 2023 seem to be best exemplified by apocalypse bingo memes!

I especially like The Cabin In The Woods pool memes.

Looking back, I can honestly say 2022 didn't suck NEARLY as much as the preceding four years. Hopefully this broke the pattern.

This is my LAST week as a fully employed individual. I'll be retired once I leave the office this Friday!!

It can be fun to look back and see how wrong the predictions are. Can be. Maybe.

This is my LAST week as a fully employed individual.

Jalme,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Come on in. The water's fine.

I am thinking about traveling more on the bike this year. Really looking at Mount Rushmore and that area. Crusty has me pondering it hard. I do plan on being at TWOS May 10th thru the 14th and again October 4th thru the 8th. WVBR in West Virginia is August 17th thru the 20th. Lots of great Buell and ex-buell rider there. Great camping, bonfire, and food with plenty of love. Please, consider visiting an event or two. I'm sure most of us would be blessed by your presence. Most dangerous part of retirement is sitting down and not forcing yourself to get out. Be careful, we only have the moment we are in.

I have found, while riding the Airdyne, that when playing FPS video games, I tend to back pedal frantically when a big monster attacks and I'm running backwards in screen desperately shooting...

I'm working on getting on the spin bike when I switch from forums to youtube. I have been disappointing myself (bad boy, bad boy). I should start LA (lazy anonymous). Hi, My name is R.D. and I'm a slacker. Group: Hi, R.D.

On the plus side I'm down 5.8 pounds and back on the diet. I started watching food choices 2 years ago when my A1C hit 11.1. I'm at 5.4 now. That was scary. I did not get on the insulin crazy train, but it took a lot of will to turn it around. Everyone that has expressed interest in how I did it so they can wont commit after I tell them what it took. I have one friend that just had some more foot removed. I can't fathom not stopping the madness. I tell them bread and soda pop are out. I call sugar poison and bacon is your friend. Cheat day is only one day a week and is not all day! The diet has to be sustainable. ie. It is what you eat day in and day out for the rest of your life. I have set an upper limit on weight that tightens restrictions on ice-cream, cookies, and portion sizes. My doctor told me the holidays are here and I should get back on track right after them. I told him that that is like telling an addict that a little dope is OK because it's a party. It is a commitment. So, plan it with balance, or you are just an addict praying for help because you can't do it.

This one is for free; In my opinion, fasting is for the spirit, not for a diet. A diet is for living life. Fasting is for dieing out to selfishness. I do not use fasting for weight control.

Congrats!

Ourdee is right. Don't forget now is the time to do things you didn't have time for. Take it easy don't mean stop doing. Retirement doesn't mean from life.

My goal is 30,000 miles on two wheels. I actually managed that once a few decades ago before life started getting REALLY hectic.

Ourdee, don't recall my A1C off the top of my head, but a blood sugar over 700 when my Doctor called me @ 9 pm on a Friday after I stopped at the lab that morning comes to mind.

I try hard not to be evangelical about diets, since most who are, are more annoying than usual, or me. ; )

But diet change saved me from insulin. Ongoing battle. I went up 20 pounds in the 2021 Holiday Season and a change in domestic stuff. Been stable on weight, but unhappy for a year, now domestic issues over and new pedal toys purchased... And new attitude on exerstuff.

Like I needed more toys I don't use!
But the Cattrike is hangered in the kitchen/dining room so I can roll it ( and carry it sideways ) out the door. And the high racer is dominating the man cave in front of the big screen, on a shiny new trainer, so I have no excuse. : )

I only have one real piece of advice for dieting. Don't bring the bag of chips to where you snack. Put some in a bowl and put the bag away. Go back for seconds, if you want more, but make it a conscious decision. If the bag is in reach you will eat it. Hmm. Salty snacks!!!

And re: exercise equipment.
Don't hang your coat on one. Or pile stuff on it. The extra effort to get it ready kills the impulse to actually use it.

And... : )

Ourdee, seriously, congrats. My endocrinologist ( not indoctrinology, that's MSNBC ) says they tell everyone they can try to control their A1C with diet, but very few do. I have a cousin with one leg, amputated this year, and a buddy from college who just spent 3 years in a boot thing, from an infection from stepping on a tiny bit of wire. ( Ham radio & comm computer geek ) For him, crippling injury & the Coronapanic had him not leave the house for anything but medical care since 2019, until this summer. ( finally got him outside )

To be fair, all my surviving age group friends are wrecks careening through life. ; ) Bad backs, hips, knees, organs, and more cyborg by the year.

But I totally understand your bemusement on diabetes. When your buddy is getting spherical and heading for doom, it's hard. I remember thinking, "oh, I'm overweight, but I'll never get THAT bad!" Until I did.

Good luck all this New Year. We'll need it.

Oh! Snack recipe!

Line rimmed baking sheet with foil.
Lay thick cut bacon ( Wright's is my #2 favorite & the local Amish market #1 ) on foil, and draw a thin line of BBQ sauce down each strip. Bake at 350 f for 18-25 minutes?? until no longer floppy. Bacon will firm when cooling, so some experimentation will be needed on timing, depending on oven.

Refrigerate after cooling if you have any left. ( I make small batches of 4-6 strips using pizza pan )

“Or pile stuff on it”

Haha. My weight bench is covered in the farkles i’ve purchased for my new CRF300L Rally, which has not yet arrived. Bags, bash plate, tires, risers, hand guards, mirrors, etc. Rally Raid suspension from the UK is on the way. Looking forward to some overnight adventure touring.

Regarding weight, I began a ketogenic diet about two years ago. Lost 50 pounds in just a few months and have kept it off. You can reverse type 2 diabetes/insulin resistance with diet.

Well that's all she wrote. Handed in my company cell phone, laptop and security badge. Now to wait till the weather warms up. In the meantime, there's lots of non-two-wheeled traveling to do!
