Baby steps... took the XMAX for a short ride to the local Jersey Mike's to pick up lunch. Two days of rain followed after but it's clearing and relatively warm today. Think I'll take the XMAX down to the local Poke shop for lunch today.

This past weekend was the first time I was able to put on a normal pair of jeans. The swelling on my lower left leg combined with less gauze covering the wound finally allowed this to happen! I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Normal jeans at last

Chin up, feets up on them pegs, buddy!!

TCX Hero Boots. Since Aerostich hasn't been able to get new Combat Lite boots for the past several years these seemed to fit the bill. Waterproof, and don't look out of place off of the bike.

Dang nice boots! I'll have to go visit J&P or Cycle Gear and try them on. I'm kinda looking for a narrower toe- the steel box toe on my Hi-Tests isn't letting me shift Jane comfortably.

Time for a progress report. The graft has taken nicely and the wound is closed (but still looks pretty gruesome). I spared you all the sight of the open wound but here it is closed and healing:

healing wound

The other side of my leg looked like a football shortly after I got home, but that is healing nicely too:

fading scar

And the site where they took the skin to cover the wound still LOOKS painful, but just looks that way. It feels fine and is slowly returning to its natural color:

Well SOME good news for a change. My fever already broke. As of 10:00 this morning it is down to 96.8 (that is not a mistype). Also, oxygen level is 97. I credit liberal application of "Purr Therapy" from my cat for this miraculous turn around. Okay, having three COVID-19 shots over the past year may've contributed a little...

Jesus, Jamie I had no idea this happened to you since I mainly stick to the Racing section.

I had an injury to my leg where I thought compartment syndrome was happening. I researched the hell out it and the fasciotomy is indeed a very unpleasant option, but better than losing the limb. Thankfully the pressure in my calf subsided without the need for the procedure. However, I still think I have some lingering issues from the episode.

The big suck part of this is realizing even when we are "right" as motorcyclists, we still lose. This is a perfect case in point.

As a matter of fact, with the world getting more angry, narcissistic, stupider and distracted I have seriously considered retiring from riding (as much as I love it). Honest to God, I have had more close encounters with people doing idiotic things in the cars in the last 2-3 years than the prior 15ish. No joke.

Pulling out without looking both ways. WTF? I usually make it a practice to look both ways TWICE before proceeding--you know, in case a motorcycle is coming down the road.

Fresno... I've a sticker on my GMC Sierra stepside pickup... "For all the gains we saw for seatbelts, we've lost them all to cell phones."

All the idiots, morons, and non-native species sub-humans coming to Tennessee have me thinking similarly. If I could score a drop-top hard top with good gas mileage and a 2" ball receiver hitch, I'd consider going at least D/S for the most part. Ideally a Lexus SC430.

I was told I no longer have to keep it covered... which means I'll DEFINITELY be wearing long pants all the time (at least for the forseeable future). On the other hand, that's progress I suppose!

I had a buddy who was riding a dirtbike and basically did a massive endo due to hitting a trench across the trail at WFO throttle. Apparently, some A-hole in a quad that had dug the trench previously by spinning circles.

Anyhow, he ended up tangled up in the bike with the screaming hot exhaust on the back of calf. By time he was extricated, there was a good 1/2 inch of flesh burnt off. he was about 18 at the time, so I don't know if this makes a difference in the treatment, but they did not do any skin grafts and basically let it heal on it's own. He had to keep water off of it for at least a full year and he had to keep sun off of it for at least two years. It must have worked because he has full function of his calf, the skin grew back and the healed divot is about an 1/8 inch deep. It happened just above his Achilles. He is very lucky it missed it.

The picture of your calf with the healing divot reminds me of my buddy's calf...

Except it's not a divot... it's a BULGE. I can shower and wash it (gently) with soap and water but I was also told to keep the sun off of it. I wasn't given a length of time, though. Like I said... I'm not much for wearing shorts anyway (no matter how hot it is) and I guess I won't be going swimming for awhile either.

I've never gotten a tattoo... but I'm thinking something like this might be the answer to masking that hideous scar.

Leatherback turtle

I think I might wait till next year to get the "ink." It'll give the skin more time to heal (and maybe I'll have second thoughts).

The thing is, I always said I'd never get a tattoo because I didn't want something on my body for the rest of my life that I didn't start with.

Now I have something on my body that the doctors tell me will be there for the rest of my life, and it is just plain HIDEOUS. A tattoo now seems like the lesser of two evils.

Somebody else asked me the same question. Other than I think Leatherback turtles are way cool there really isn't any other significance. It's just that the shell shape seems to match that scar on my leg almost perfectly...

My bad on getting the wrong turtle lol!

It is a cool looking turtle! And if you like it, that's all that counts!!! It would cover your scar really well, and look good at the same time.

Good idea on giving your skin some time to heal. One of my tattoos partially cover a scar, and I'm glad there was time between the two.

Fair warning: Often times, once you get one tattoo, you find yourself wanting another lol! I've been wanting to get a sixth, a memorial of my Sweet Angel Aphrodite, financial considerations is the only thing holding me back.

Not wrong. Leatherbacks live in the ocean so that makes them "Sea Turtles." They're fascinating, too. The more you learn about them, the more interesting they become.

I caught a ride from a green sea turtle while scuba diving in the Philippines. Grabbed its tail and hung on for fifty feet or so.
Turtle would make a fine tat IMO.
Keep healing Jaime.

I think that turtle is too dark and will look like a black blob of ink especially as you age. Have you thought about something motorcycle related?

I just noticed that the above image of a leatherback turtle resembles the shape of an upside down heart. A good tattoo artist could make quite an image... hmmm.

Hope you are doing well in this dang hot summer heat, Jaime. Ride as needed, and stay hydrated, needed!

Leave the scar is. It’s not bad looking at all, and will be a great conversation starter. You might could Hollywood up your story some for increased entertainment value. : ) Too much fun. Ask Court to help. Epic.

I've BEEN talking to a good TEAM of lawyers. It looks like it's going to go to court because neither the driver NOR the company that owned the truck carried sufficient insurance.

By the way, on the advice of my surgeon, I will wait until February before making a final decision on the tattoo. He advised allowing the skin to heal for at least a year and it makes sense.

A HEAVILY tattooed lady I know recommended an artist who apparently specializes in covering up scars so I'm keeping his contact information handy.

It doesn't matter if you stop every 100 yards and light off fireworks. The idiots behind the wheel will be too busy reading a recent text about some actor's divorce and won't see anything that isn't on the screen.
