My dearly beloved old BMW is now in the hands of another man. I'm happy... maybe in a day or two. In other words, I'm now down to just Jane. Can't have two lovers after all. Never thought I'd part with her. Oh well. Crusty... those grips went with her. At a later date, not long from now, I'll write a Squidlet. Yee and ha... now, a Gemini must go to sleep and wake up without melancholy. WHAT a day. Time to focus on what's at hand... me mine, M, my great canine kids, and Jane. She will be getting a new rear Metzeler pretty soon. Me sad... |

OK... now, for what Paul Harvey called "The Rest Of The Story". I'm still shaking my head at it all. So... I had my beloved Frau Blucher listed on CL and FBMKT. Had a good number of peeps inquire about her, one lowball from Asheville whom I sent home with an empty trailer. (Wahh Wahhhh. Game show loser sound there. ) So, finally, I get a fella from Murfreesboro inquiring via FB. OK then. We go back and forth a few times, I figure out pretty quick that (a) he's for real, yay, and (b) right up front a pretty nice fella. Then, he emails that he'd like to come look at it, and gives his name, Fred G. A name I IMMEDIATELY recognize. Weirdness now ensues. I email back as soon as I see the name... "That's not a common name, buddy. My grade school best friend had the same name." He emails back... "Small world! Chris was my younger brother!" Here's the stunner: Chris died at age 20-21 from a brain aneurism. WOW. I now have my old '77 R75/7 in the 1000% capable hands of my FIRST best friend's big brother. Chris and Fred G's dad helped instill a lifelong fascination or all things motorized in me. Not to mention a Shelby show car, and Chris' daily driver, a vintage T-Bird show car... which he flipped and totaled a couple of years before he died. That wreck he walked away from, also when he totaled his mom's convertible Mustang. Chris and I were inseparable until they figured out they should separate us in the 4th grade. After high school, he had gotten married, and started a job with Alladin on Murfreesboro Road, Nashvegas. Then, the aneurism. It was like an 8 year too early class of 1985 reunion when he died. EVERYONE loved Chris. Now, I essentially have a new Brother from another mother, leave the BMW aside completely. God works in VERY mysterious ways. I WILL write more about this later. I'm still remembering all the nut job stuff he and I did together. Chris had a LOT to do with my formative years... I love him to this DAY. Now I have Fred. Wow. Oh... and Crusty, you must know that those handlebar grips also are with Fred and my Frau. Along with my old green helmet cover...! Neat. I long ago came to the conclusion that there were several thousand humans out and about, doing interesting things, and billions of NPCs that didn't. And you can't tell them apart most of the time, so it's best to assume human wants and problems. Sure, "they" tell you everyone is a unique, thinking individual, but what are the odds? |

Been a minute... got great news! My friend and new caretaker of my old Beemer has gotten started tinkering... she's nekkid now! Fred's planning to set her up as a solo seat ride- he'd toyed with going down the "cafe" road, which is a bit old IMHO, but I have no doubt that he will do the proper things with this great bike. Lord knows that if I had the means/time/expertise, I would have loved to keep her and so on, but- in reality, I'm actually much happier as of late riding around on "Jane". The more I ride the Pacific Coast, the more I understand why they were used as police bikes in Europe. Wish I had more range (!!!), a bit more power, and taller gearing... but not that bad. Got a new set of cartridge emulators waiting to be installed before too long, and there IS a "hack" to replace the final drive with that of a VT1100 for taller gearing. Dunno about getting that done, but- maybe. It's nice having the room back in my shed... might go for a dual-sport sometime, as I've been wanting one for years now. All I know is that a long-lost big brother, from another mother, from the past now has my old Frau, and we will ride together in this New Year... likely swapping stories about Chris. He's not been to Suches... I'm planning on leading him down there, one of these days. For those who regularly congregate around the fire pit at TWoS- Fred's definitely one of us. Looking forward to this coming year!!
