According to liberal arts students, there is a lot of unfilled positions in unskilled jobs because they want their school paid for and a "living wage" (AKA $20/hr).

Tell me your entitled and lazy without telling me you're entitled and lazy.

Pretty much every chain store or fast food franchise pays $15/hr starting these days. Seems it may have been advantageous to get something other than a useless degree with socialist indoctrination if they wanted more

Oh, $15 an hour was a scant wage back in the Before Time. Some places it became the New Minimum.
But now with life charging towards the New Normal promised by the Obama regime and resumed & in process by Just Joe*, $15 is an insult.

$15 is now a Value Meal. Soon, when gas prices rise to the apparently planned record highs, that paltry sum may not buy a gallon of gas for the Polluters.

And of course, you're a fool to work when "free" benefits are better than working pays.

California may have hammered the Gig Economy with regulations, but the New Normal young adult is increasingly running their lives as temps. They work to pay the bills, and if smart, save up enough to keep in rent & lattes between gigs. Long term employment? That's an Old Elite idea.

I just made damn near 100 simoleons, plus a case of wine, plus a $20 freebie for food at a great neighborhood tavern, for volunteering at an annual charity wine event downtown, for the 3rd year. Tonite. I'm pretty good at what I do. Saw gobs of friends, made many new ones, mostly ladies, whom I care for only via arete, not any of the other versions of love.

Your hatred of Democrats is inaccurate. My father, a lifelong Democrat, fought in the Korean War. A very great lady, a Tennessee State Senator, came to his funeral when he died.
I was twenty years of age.

It takes two wings to fly, as I have stated before. If you want to flap around with your right wing, I can walk. Let us FLY together withOUT [edit] all this stupid partisan BICKERING, from talking heads that control us.

Let us ride like the Valkyries. ON BUELLS.

the politics. Yes politics matter. Vote, but remember to love one another... even enemies. Talking to you Ebeeatch. I'm guessing you're a Veteran.

Keep track of what you vote FOR, Brad.

Look at cities that have been run by Dems for decades - how are they doing?

Look at cities run by Republicans. How do they compare for crime? Business? Safety? Police? Budget?

Look at what the D) party has become, and how they're flushing our nation down the shitter right now.

As for the original post?

https://mikerowe.com/2021/10/trading-up/

Watch the video. Worth every minute. And, it points out that you DON'T need a degree if you a) do what you love and b) are good at it.

WE NEED THE TRADES.

Local politics and nation wide shows there is little difference in corruption between Parties. There may be swings in the percentage that get away with it, by Party, especially recently, but some of that perception may be pundit driven. Pundit X will point out the "get away with its" of the other side while bemoaning the busted on his. That doesn't mean his side doesn't have "get away with its".

And I'm not a Republican Party fan. Assume rant here!!!! If anybody hated Donald more than the D Party Leaders/rulers it was Establishment Republicans.

There is, however, an overwhelming wave over the post LBJ/Nixon Vietnam war time line where the Authoritarian Left has taken control of the Democrat Party.

JFK would be unacceptable to today's D Party.
Lincoln probably would be unacceptable to R Party Leaders too. So was Donald. Heck, JFK might not make the R Party grade.

It's curious that Bush, Trump, & Kennedy were all (allegedly?) Screwed by the CIA & FBI. While Bill, Barack, and so far Joe* all are darlings of the Deep State. ( if such a thing exists, it may be our Illuminati, an imaginary threat to be blamed for everything )

There is a difference between Parties. And pundits have been preaching onrushing doom for centuries.

We've also had apocalyptic wars and disasters and famines for all of history, so the pundits aren't always wrong.

Joe... dang, it would be good, great to see you again. Vern too. This back and forth over politics makes me weary, dammit.

Entropy applies not only to the physical realm, but also to the political and spiritual realms as well. If you care about philosophy, that too. We must always DEBATE. Otherwise, we lose our democracy. It is not a republic... or is it?

Did anyone see the funeral for General Powell today on CBS? I didn't even know... I went to visit a neighbor, she had the TV on. It was just after 1PM EST. I had to sit, and watch, as Colin Powell's son eulogised his father. I did cry. Yesterday was my dad's birthday... so, watching the CBS live feed was a bit heavy for me. All good, though.

If I demonize you, I lose part of my humanity. And so on. If any of you live in stone houses, give me a rock, and maybe I'll trade you my house made of glass.

This guy. Making fun of people's names while subtly mocking them and talking about his humanity.

We are a Republic, as much as the "muh democracy" people would like to ruin that.

There are cities and counties where conditions have made $20/hr a scant wage. Everywhere else 15/hr will work to get a responsible adult by.

Aesquire, you're right on. These days the Democratic party has become quite radical while insisting that the people who simply want to keep politicians in their lane are pure evil. I'd say, historically, the opposite has proven true.

I think this was spot on. I've noticed for a while that it seems like prices aren't going up too badly, but I get less and less, poor service, long waits, etc.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/202 1/10/19/shadow-inflation-could-be-a-bigger-problem -than-you-realize/?sh=72d26b2734a8

I was on hold with Capital One for 7.5 hours one day and my call was disconnected promptly at 6pm. My call the following day was the same result. Finding any contact information on their website was a nightmare, but I eventually found a form to complain. I didn't even get a form letter back that they care about me or were looking into it.

The following day, I refinanced my car with my local credit union.

I don't know enough about government benefits to not work, though I believe most of the big stuff has ended. I'm starting entry level folks out at $25/hr and can't find applicants. When we do, they can't pass a drug test or grossly inflated their qualifications of having a pulse and knowing what a car is.

yep. A friend's wife got Covid-layed-off by Governor's decree, and got more money that she did when working. It was a shock to have to go back to work again. A lot of people didn't until they bonus was over , and had lost their jobs for not coming back.

There's a pay thing called "compression" where if you work at a company for years, the new hires are making more than you, because inflation affects hiring more than working people in some weird way. So a lot of people that wore masks through the Panicdemic and kept businesses going are now getting less than the folk coming in. I've been there and it's not good for morale.

When we do, they can't pass a drug test or grossly inflated their qualifications of having a pulse and knowing what a car is.

So, do we blame the schools, the parents, or Facebook? I have a niece who never learned to drive, and has zero interest in learning. I can't imagine turning down freedom to travel at whim, just because all my friends are on the screen I carry.

It reminds me...
