@Wolfridgerider "The River Run campsites are about 5ish miles away from Cokeley..." "There are a few Generators running all night so one more shouldn't be a problem..." Ah. Did not know this. I assumed the electric sites were the ones overlooking the river only a few hundred yards from Cokely. Also read the campground rules and saw the prohibition against running gensets after quiet hours at 10 PM. Just trying to be socially aware. I'll see if I can cancel my reservations, but either way, I guess I'll be there. Can't say NO to beer around a campfire!!! |

Our little group is away from everyone. We tend to stay up a little later and laugh a little louder as the evening wears on. |

Rule #1 of WVBR........ don't read the campground rules. There is a reason why they put us waaaay away from everyone else. |

Rule #2......Don't ride an ATV down to the showers. Unless you want a 10 minute lecture from the Head Camper (or whatever his title is). |

Rule #3 of WVBR..........Don't poop where we eats. Please, because the out-house becomes ripe, we attempt to only defecate down the hill at the shower house. |

I figure this is where we're meeting since it says Cokely, but I also figured that the River Run campground was located at the RV sites in the bend of the river (where the shower house is). But obviously, not true if it's 5 miles from Cokely, so where da eff is RR? Plunked around GM and couldn't find a pin.

Looks like the remnants of Fred are gonna make their way up thru the midwest and bring us some rain. Worst day is Wednesday but could linger into the weekend. |

I'll be coming in on Friday. I might hit a little bit of it. Oh well. I don't mind riding in the rain it's just that nobody makes a decent rain suit. My jacket is great but the pants never work more than two storms. Anytime I see "heat tape" in the description I don't waste my money. Any hydraulic pressure from sitting in water will push up through the seam and push that "heat tape" right off. If I was younger I'd go into the rain gear business and do it right! Man I'm crabby, maybe I need a long ride!! See all Ya'll real soon! |

Be careful rolling into the WV area over the next couple of days. Fred dropped mega-buckets of rain on the GA/NC mtns and is headed that way. Gonna be lots of mud, gravel wash, and storm debris on the roads, plus many of the rivers may still be cresting by Friday. Just saw a post from Jay at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground on 276 in Cruso that a flood tore out the main bridge, cabins and some other buildings. They'll obviously be closed for some time. Sad news! Our Local Riders crew from Cincinnati was headed down to BRMC for our annual week-long hooning session first week of September. ( |

What he said. Local news/weather showed a Bald River Falls that looked like Niagara in anger. I won't be riding for a good few days, not in the hills for sure. |

Thoughts While Getting Ready Tomorrow, I’m heading for the WVBR. It’s one of my favorite rallies. It’s a camping rally and it’s always a good time with lots of memories. West Virginia roads are delightful for a motorcyclist; they’re both very twisted and very scenic. The people who attend are a very diverse group and fun to be with. And it’s a real bargain. Mark puts it on because he enjoys doing it. He’s not trying to make a buck off it. I’d be willing to bet he’s lost money every year he’s put it on, but he does it every year because he has so much fun. I attended the rally first in 2015, when I was living on the road and I was instantly hooked. I’ve been back every year but one when I had a really severe Migraine and couldn’t push myself out the door. There are many memories for only having attended for the past few years. The trip to the Insane Asylum in Weston, Riding to Hillbilly Hot Dogs, The wedding where we all wore the tackiest suits we could find (Jim definitely took top place with that snowman suit and magenta shirt), the stock car races at the Dust Bowl, are just the beginning. There’s also the Saturday night dinner that Mark’s folks put on for all of the riders. Mark’s Brother in Law makes the best pulled pork I’ve ever tasted. The first time I went, I ate so much of it, I had trouble sleeping, but it was so good that I couldn’t stop. And there’s also Campfire Jenga. The descriptions are really lame, compared with how much fun the rally is. My Camping gear is sitting on the dining room table waiting to go on the bike. This afternoon, I’ll load up the saddlebags and strap everything to the Express so that in the morning, all I have to do is just jump on the bike and head out. It’s funny; this rally is one that I really enjoy, yet I was thinking of not going. With all the traveling I’ve done this year, I’ve run up the balance on my credit card to a level I’m not comfortable with. I had to bring myself up short and point out that I knew I was going to run up my balance and that it will start coming down a bit more rapidly as fall approaches. Also; this is one of the most affordable events I go to. If I’m really worried about my balance, I should cancel out going to Springfield. That’s when I’ll be spending considerably more. The reality is that it’s just Pre-Trip jitters. I’m going to the WVBR and I’m going to Springfield. My balance will go up a little, but it will start plummeting next month. This was all anticipated and it will all be OK. However; I think I’ll put off the trip to Motoport in October. I think it would be wiser to get the balance on the card down before I run it up to astronomical levels by buying a suit and doing a 6,000 mile trip. The gear that I’ve got could use replacing, but I can get by with it for a little bit longer. I still plan to get my suit; just not quite as soon as I was hoping. So my plan for today is to mow the lawn this morning and pack the bike this afternoon. Tomorrow morning, I’m heading east! |

Fark! Family drama. MIL in the hospital with mild heart attack at 92! The Mrs is understandably distraught. Everything is packed and ready to roll in the AM, but I'm gonna have to see how things play out between now and Friday morning. Worst case, I'm out. Might be able to roll the 4 hours over tomorrow and see how this plays out. Hate to waste a couple days of prep and miss out on a weekend of riding great roads....but family first.

Prayers and best wishes, Driver 8. (REM song reference.) Family first, by all means. If cleared by your lady, prepare for meeting your new Buell fandamily. Wish I could be there... if only for Firepit Jenga. Be sure to bring screw-cap beer, and then know what to do. Cans, not bottles. |
