Well... The Andrews cams are currently on back order... Amy recommendations on a second choice? What do ya think of a S&S 509? |

Amazon has them: https://www.amazon.com/Andrews-Camshaft-Harley-Dav idson-1999-2006/dp/B006B25RRW/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1& keywords=Andrews+21G+cam&qid=1617896431&s=automoti ve&sr=1-1 The 509 is too mild. It's intake closes at 18 degrees. The 21 closes at 30. The 510 closes at 38 which is too late for low end torque. I like the specs of the 551 but it's lift is too high for stock valve springs. If you can get the 21 on Amazon I'd go for it. |

Nice! Glad you were able to find one. If, once you get it running with the new cam, it's still not enough punch for you, try dropping two teeth off the secondary drive pulley. I think they are 34 teeth from the factory but Andrews sells a "power pulley" with 32 teeth. That really wakes up a glide! If you're doing more highway travel then it will raise your rpm a little but it makes passing a lot easier! It's also a lot cheaper than engine mods! |

Should I pull the trigger... yes.. yes, I think I should 30-tooth power sprockets provide a 6% higher gear ratio advantage over stock 32-tooth sprockets, 29-tooth power sprocket provides a 9% higher gear ratio advantage over stock 34-tooth overdrive sprockets reduce engine speed by approximately 240 rpm at 60 mph, with less noise and vibration Machined from heat-treated, gear quality steel Made in the U.S.A. |

Thanks for the clarification, I obviously had it wrong! My waist size was much smaller the last time I dealt with that! So I must of had the 30 tooth pulley on my old 91. I'm sure you've seen or heard my story of out running 95 inch motors with my 80 inch motor because of the pulley. It did rev a little higher but never bothered me. I did 8251 miles in 4 weeks and the first one was at Sturgis putting around the Black Hills! They mention the Dakota Digital unit for correcting your speedo. Since I have a Baker DDS 6 speed I had to get one for my 2002 Road Glide. It's plug and play to install and then use the Waze or similar app on your phone to check your speed and just push up or down on the controller to adjust your speedo. Then just wire tie it up in your frame under the seat. |

Seek And Ye Shall Find I’ve been searching for a windshield for the Gentleman’s Express for a while, now. I wanted something similar to the windshield for the Roadster, but nobody made one for a 2016 Roadster. I went to the local H-D stealership and had a lengthy discussion with a parts guy. Uh-uh. I poured through the online H-D Parts site. Nope. I called Memphis Shades and talked with a pleasant sounding lady who was no help; but she did tell me that she couldn’t help me for legal reasons. If I put one of their windshields on and crashed because of it, they’d be liable for damages. Or some equally silly crap. I live alone and if I die, I won’t sue; and if I don’t die, I still won’t sue. I talked to National Cycle. The one person that I talked to pointed me towards a Plexifairing. It would probably work, but it looked goofy to me. I really liked the MoFoCo’s new Quick Release clamps, but they weren’t available for the forks of the Roadster. The Factory offers nothing if you want to put a windshield on a newer Roadster. I’ve been juggling with how to put quick release mounts on my bike, then maybe taking measurements of fork width with the clamps on the fork tubes, as well as the width of the holes in windshields to see if I could find brackets that would fit. I found some Memphis Shades clamps that would fit on my forks (55mm), so that was the possibility that I was chasing, but I still had a ways to go with finding other measurements. I also searched for any other possibility. Slip Streamer was another disappointment. Putting a windshield on the Express was looking like a pretty formidable task. This morning, just for kicks, I was looking on J&P Cycles site and there was a mounting kit for a Memphis Slim windshield that supposedly “Fits” a 2016 Roadster. It looks like the fork tube clamps I was looking at, plus the Detachable brackets that will work. Not only that, but they come in black and not chrome! I bought the mounting kit. I hesitated for all of two minutes while I debated whether I should, then hit the “Buy” button. I couldn’t get the shield, as they were out of stock, but having a “Trigger Lock” Detachable Windshield looks very probable. I’m feeling pretty good! |

I love the easter egg hunt! The chase is always better than the catch... or so Lemmy says. Hunting for parts has always been one of the best parts of owning a motorcycle or Jeep or whatever floats your boat. My wife does the same thing but its stuff for the house or deals on clothes. Glad you found what you were looking for Crusty. I just got this today... Scheduled Delivery Thursday 04/15/2021

Rear axle position change for each tooth on transmission sprocket = + /–.125 inches (3.2 mm) I dropped 2 teeth. According to the Andrews catalog that should be 6.4mm or 0.251969 inches. I would think I would have a 1/4" of adjustment left... I will have to check it out when I get home. |

I tried posting from my phone, evidently it didn't make it though. I think you will have enough adjustment. I did this on my 91 but it had individual adjusters and you had to use a tool to get them even. Much simpler now. |

I'm booked every weekend unit the end of May. Going Jeep'n one weekend and teaching 3 other weekends. I dropped the bike off this morning to get the work done. He said 2 weeks and it will be done. Just as long as I have it back by Memorial Day weekend... I am good to go! |

So you're getting an Andrews 21G cam with gear drive and a 30 tooth front pulley? |

Got the Andrew 21 cam but went with the updated Screaming Eagle cam plate and oil pump... PLUS the 30 tooth pulley. I should feel a HUGE change in the seat of your pants meter.

Hey Greg, are you running a oil cooler? |

I used to but didn't like the way the hoses were under the frame. However, I had also installed a Baker +1 oil pan. My friend the engine builder found that the stock oil pan's pick up is right next to the discharge so you're picking up hot oil. The Baker pan picks the oil up in the rear, the opposite end of the discharge and this allows a lot of cooling. He was impressed by how much cooler it ran. Now, having said that, Harley came out with a cooler that attaches to the oil filter mount. I really like that one. No clutter. I might invest in one before my next Sturgis run as it can get over 100 real easy out there. I think your probably fine without it since you're still an 88" motor where I'm running a 95". On the other hand, if it's in the budget it does give a little piece of mind. |

Deeper oil pans were popular for Airhead BMWs, but there was a concern that they would cool too much and the oil wouldn't get up to proper operating temp. The BMW stock oil coolers even had a thermostat valve to bypass the cooler. Temps of 100F may need extra cooling, but when/if you ride at 45F, maybe not. I probably would have gotten one for my R100/7 anyway, but I was too cheap! |

The fan assist would only be necessary if you're going to be running at slow speeds on very hot days. Like in a parade on July 4th in New Orleans, or with the bike idling while you write out parking tickets in those same temperatures. It is possible to cool your oil too much. Then the condensate doesn't get hot enough to evaporate off and it forms sludge. I doubt that putting one on your bike will harm it (it does have a thermostat), but I also doubt you'd gain any benefit. |

Plus, I just got a text from a fellow WVBR attendee. He found a G-Tech Air Cleaner Cover for me. I'm looking forward to polishing and putting some black crinkle paint on it.

I didn't know you had to remove the swingarm. I had mine put in when I had the Baker 6 speed installed. I had too many projects going so I let my friend, who had done many of them, do it for me. That's been the only thing I've had done for me except the clutch basket in Newfoundland when half the teeth were stripped off the starter gear! That wasn't my choice however!! |
