Well success! It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today. Took a ride and at 166 miles on the tank of gas and my gas gauge at 1/8th left my low fuel light illuminated! Today would have been a perfect day to head South but oh well. I'm just glad one more thing is fixed. |

OT, but the HD website doesn't show any 2021 Street models. I knew I read about it somewhere... |

anybody know of a "What fits What Models" list, website or book? I would like to know what parts and such will work on my 2002 FLH. I'm on the hunt for a Fatboy solid rear wheel that will fit today... tomorrow... might be something different |

I've only seen those list on parts websites on what they sell. Not familiar with any outside of that. Hopefully somebody knows something, that would be handy! Curious why you want the solid rear wheel? On the dresser you can't really see much of it. Easy to clean? In 2002 they went to a 1" axle so in your search nothing before 2002 will work. I had my stock wheels powder coated but it's flaking off. The guy did a lousy job. I should of had a clue when I met him. His hands were absolutely filthy! Not what you want to see when you're around paint or powder coat! Maybe next Winter I'll send them off for chrome. Easy to clean! |

Ease of cleaning first and foremost. My Roadking had spoked wheels and I hated them. They looked great when clean... but I HATED cleaning them! |

When I bought my Road Glide they had put wire wheels on it. Next to it was a Road King with cast wheels. I told them I'd buy the Road Glide if they swapped the wheels with the Road King, which they did. I hate cleaning them too! Ironically I just got a set of stainless rims and a set of stainless spokes so I can relace the wheels on the 75 Triumph Trident. |

Wow. Really?! I had installed a ratchet style Harley primary chain adjuster quite a while ago. There are reports that it can ratchet too far and cause problems so I check mine every once in a while and never had a problem. I was checking it the other day and it was fine except something didn't look right. The wear shoe was not parallel with the chain. In fact, the chain was climbing up the inside of the shoe!! So yesterday I took the outer primary off and pulled out the adjuster. It looked like maybe it was twisted so I put it in the vise and was going to twist it back when I noticed a fat washer that somebody used as a shim! There have only been four people that have been in the primary and that's me, my engine building buddy and two Harley mechanics in Canada. The second one had to replace the clutch basket because half the teeth were worn off the starter gear. I can't imagine any reason to set it up like this. I removed the washer and everything looked square again. You could see the original wear marks on the shoe and the new ones so I know it wasn't done in the beginning when my buddy put it in. So now everything is back in alignment and back together. Problem #2. I took a ride on Tuesday and was enjoying a beautiful day on back roads. I started heading into a small town and the bike started missing again like it lost a cylinder. I made a U-turn trying to keep it running and took off and it cleared up and ran perfect all the way home. Although I did notice a couple of blips like it missed a beat. So I'm doing research and then went to see my buddy and I asked him about spark plugs and told him I had brand new Iridium plugs in it. He perked right up! He said he tried those years ago and they didn't work out and went back to stock or stock style NGK's. No more issues. Then he explained the ION sensing the fuel injected coil has and if you use something other than a stock type plug it can get readings out of it's parameters and do crazy things. I did read that if you are having pinging problems with a ThunderMax they tell you "not to use rare earth spark plugs." So I just hit O-Reilly's and got some copper core NGK's and installed them. It's very cloudy and windy but I think I'm taking a shake down cruise and see if it's okay. Time for a RADAR check! |

So no rain in sight just windy as hell. It's 60 degrees and feels great! I jumped on the bike and rode 20 miles East and jumped off on a small highway. Bike was running fine the whole time. I rode into a small town and rode around the town square and it started again. If I let it idle for too long it would drop a cylinder but pick it back up when I hit the throttle. I headed home and a few miles down the road it started missing pretty bad at 60 mph. I reached down and twisted the front spark plug wire and it stopped! It missed a few more times but not as bad as before. I pulled in the garage and let it idle and sure enough it dropped to one cylinder. I twisted the wire around again and held it and it idled perfect. The wires are Magnacores so not cheap. I don't remember when I put them on but something is going on so I guess I'll inspect them and check resistance. Even if I can't find anything I'll probably replace them and see if that does it. |

You may get lucky and find the end isn't pushed on far enough. I run Magnacore wires and had a bear of a time getting mine to seat all the way. |

They do hug the plugs pretty tight but unfortunately that wasn't the issue. I pulled the fuel tank and pulled the Magnacores off and tested them. The rear was at 4.9 ohms. The front was open! So it must have been jumping across somewhere in the wire but as it got warmed up it could no longer make the gap. So I ran some errands and my last stop was the HD dealer. They didn't have any stock wires but did have some Squawking Chicken wires so I picked them up. I was also having my battery die after sitting for a week without starting. I did a parasitic load test but found it right at factory specs so the battery must be on it's way out. I was able to order a new one and it made it in yesterday. So I installed it and hooked up the charger to top it off. So on Sunday I'll put it all back together and start loading it up. I think I'll take a shake down cruise to Florida! I, like Crusty, need a long ride!! |

Been doing some wheeling and dealing with a friend at the local Harley dealer. I just got a text from him. He has sourced a stock set of gauges and a Fatboy rear wheel for me. I also had a king size tourpack picked up from the last Walneck's Swap meet that matches the fairing, fender and saddlebags. Its starting to come together. |

Isn't that just a great feeling? There's nothing quite like the satisfaction you get when a dream build takes form in front of your eyes! |

My main goal is for it to be reliable. I don't put the miles on like I used to. I am a little paranoid to ride it now with the old plastic cam tensioner. The bike has over 33,000 miles on it and that is the sweet spot for them to fail. |

Great news! I'm heading North after spending ten days in Florida. Bike's running great! Finally got a tail wind today and hit 41 mpg! That's pulling my trailer too. I think the only thing you need to do is check crank runout and see if you can do the 21G cam. Set it and forget it! Good to hear it's coming along! |

Stop worrying about when it will break and ride it. I used to think that one of these days I am going to die. Guess what? On all the other ones I am going to live. |

Made it back on Sunday and it was a beautiful day. The construction zones sucked big time but I finally made it. I think I need to repack the muffler, it seems louder than it was when I left! I will say I was glad to get off that saddle. Making a Florida run my first long ride of the year was a bit painful! I had to break my keester in again! |

I was given a 2007 DL650 Vstrom that didn't run right.I made it run good with a little help from my friends and sold it. It was a bike I didn't have any interest in keeping so was a win win! |

The trip has been postponed. The guy I'm buying the outfit from has been doing maintenance such as changing all the fluids and bleeding the brakes. When he was setting the timing he had a problem with the points so he's installing a Boyer Branson electric ignition. He doesn't feel he will have it sorted to the point of sending me up the road on a 1000 mile ride by tomorrow. This just makes me more confident in the rig and the guy I'm buying it from.More to come... |
