OK, yes this is a demon Harley, but I spent most of the day tearing into my 05 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. It has a leak somewhere around the transmission output shaft. This requires pulling the whole primary off. Got as far as the compensator sprocket but, don't have the correct locking tool yet, and the piece of wood I stuck in there didn't survive. It's damn tight and if it has ever been removed, I'm certain it has way too much loctite. Someone before me decided that if a little loctite was good, a lot was better.

Recording video but not sure if I'm going to edit and upload yet, or how much of the teardown will get uploaded.

Are you able to make a locking tool out of a brass hinge.

I grabbed mine and it looks like it's roughly 7" long. A 1/4" piece of steel with the edges rounded will work fine.

Not being a great "wrench" myself, I always appreciate the efforts and words of folks like Greg and RD. Might help me down the line someday.

A bit of heat goes a LONG way with Loctite. Not enough heat to burn seals and such, but barely touch it warm should help tremendously and yes absolutely make (and use) a locking tool or damage can happen fast if someone wants to dugga-dugga it off.

I had the plastic locking wedge on the way, just didn't arrive and I felt like trying out the wooden option. Didn't work out.

I did have a bunch of heat on it, enough it might have gone, but I don't think I was getting above the roughly 180 foot pounds that it is torqued at. More for another day, then I might edit a little of the video.

Is the leaking seal the small one on the input shaft where the clutch basket is or is it the big seal in the transmission case?

Personally I never like the locking wedge. It seems to me when doing that you're pulling the crank shaft and the trans input shaft toward each other with a lot of force. I just never wanted to bend anything. I know it works it just makes me cringe! Using an arm between the sprockets locks everything up and doesn't put pressure on the shafts. Using an impact would also help but I've done it without one for many years. A 3/4" breaker bar and a 2 foot pipe will get the job done!

I think it is the larger seal on the output shaft, but all of them are going to be picked out and replaced while I am in there.

Looking carefully at the drive belt and probably going to need to put a compensator in it. It looks like it has had a clutch and and basket assembly replaced, but the teeth on the comp look a little off, I'll know more when I have a chance to get the parts off. The clutch adjuster nut has rounded corners, and the little bolts holding the clutch plates in look new, but have some tool marks on them. The basket shows no signs of use so it may have been replaced just before I bought it.

Might be a bit, having a mental setback from a bill from when the drunk hit me. Somehow there is a bill showing up from the towing company for a car that I was paid for, and I'm certain it is big because they let it sit in impound for way too long. Got to go get it, and send it to the lawyers. All I know is I can't afford it right now so there is no real way I can pay it. If it's determined that I really am responsible for this bill, it will have to wait until I get paid from the legal action.

And with that said, I'm doing all this work on the bike, and still not sure I'll even be able to ride it again. It's been over two years and the most I was able to do was ride it 500 feet up the road to a service station for inspection, and ride it back and park it. There are good days where I might be ok, and there are many more days where I'd certainly crash. Selling them all has certainly been on my mind, and a big change in life. I bought my first motorcycle around 34 years ago, and for the past 2 years I haven't felt that I could safely run one down the road without endangering myself and possibly others.

Still no progress. Got the chain locking tool (wedge) and some aluminum bar that I can cut down. Between both of those I should be able to get the nut off. Just can't find the motivation to get back to it right now.

The clutch has a yellow dot on the spring, this seems to suggest that someone put in a Screamin Chicken clutch and maybe basket, it just looks too new compared to the rest. That will be a small savings. The compensator chain sprocket looks worn so it will probably need to be replaced.

Finally got back to this a little bit tonight. I did finally get the compensator nut off, but way more effort than I would have guessed. Turned the nut amber with heat and it was still all I could do to turn it with a 24 inch breaker bar. Pretty sure I need a new compensator. Haven't done anything with the video files yet.
