Joe had posted that someone set off a car bomb on 2nd Avenue, downtown Nashville... then soiled TP and the "People's Cube" mouthpiece showed up. Nothing's sacred anymore, but I guess that's old news. Just shit on everything. | ||

My initial reaction to a car bomb is "Islamist terrorism", it's the statistical best bet. But broadcast warnings don't fit the MO. Islamist groups go for body count headlines. Then, it's 2020, & a major corporation location, if not necessarily the target, and a probably empty building, so the Marxist terror arms of the DNC, like Antifa, are an obvious choice. But, again, concern for human life indicated by a warning isn't their typical way, and the size of the blast shows more technical support than so far shown. Otoh, this could be just the next step in domestic terrorism, and they are bankrolled by Evil Rich with the resources to help make big booms. And, as the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing allegedly shows, there are competent veterans capable of building bombs, ( there's dispute on the guilty party, but disgruntled vet at least is possible ) and misguided patriots would be likely to warn about a bomb to minimize casualties, having a very different attitude than Commie Scum. Or, angry AT&T customer. Low probability but...  All pure, even rampant, speculation at this time. My bias is open and on display, but Iran, Muslim Brotherhood, Antifa/Democrat and CCP are my preliminary suspect list. This is not a typical terror attack in the U.S. Prayers for the victims and best wishes for the investigators. | ||

This seems like a pretty weird event all around. Was it pure luck that this bomb took out a lot of cell service for the Nashville area and apparently caused disruptions to air traffic control at Nashville airport? I read this morning they’ve found “human remains” in the blast area, but no indication if that person was in the RV or an innocent bystander. The other weirdness is that Edward Snowden apparently claimed this location was also a hub for NSA telecoms monitoring operations. Of course, all this info comes from the internet, so judge it’s likely accuracy accordingly.I’m sure there’s a lot more to come with this story. | ||

What's weird to me is that the 911 networks here in Knoxville were shut down too. And, apparently the perp arranged for the blast NOT to yield maximum casualties. Parked there late Thursday, after shopping and before bar curfews. Then the recorded and audible broadcast to clear the area just before the explosion. SO glad that no one perished, just non-life threatening injuries. Given that the blast was felt all the way out in Brentwood and Belle Meade, expect lots of property/structural damage though. Matthew, both my mom and stepdad worked there. I may have been inside when I was a kid. That building was once voted one of the "ugliest" in Nashville, FWIW. | ||

There's some speculation now that the target was first responders - the gunshot 911 call prior, the announcement to "warn" the area, and the placement in a relatively un-populated (at the time) area. Someone wants to do more than "defund" the police, it would appear... | ||

I'm thinking that the main target was the telecom building. If the perp(s) knew that there would be such extensive damage to emergency communications far beyond Nashville... The timing and placement, plus the warning, seem to indicate the perp didn't want many human casualties. (Of course we're all armchair QB's here, let's see what the Fed brains say.) Let's back up a bit. Why in heyull didn't Nashville po po get suspicious about an RV parked down on 2nd Avenue overnite? Surprised it didn't get towed. | ||

My guess is the speculation originated with a retired or fired intelligence drone now doing guest appearances on CNN. That's where I heard/saw it. It was based on a different case, cases, actually, where bombings are followed by further booms timed or triggered to kill police/fire/ambulance crews responding to terror attacks. Pure speculation, zero actual information, and since CNN hired & approved, negative credibility. It could also be from elsewhere. That type repeats the mantra obediently. And has no scruples about repeating gossip or using other's insights, hoping they get credit for cleverness. The "target emergency personnel" idea is logical, maybe not the best parsed thinking, and there are reasons it isn't so. No dead fireman or cops, for one. Mice? That's new.  I'm not buying all the hype on that subject either. I freely admit bias. See my suspect list above. None really stand out to me yet, all pure guesswork, as of this afternoon. | ||

Purely a case (for me) of keeping the mind active on a long vacation weekend. Mental chess, if you will. "What if..." We have a long time before we'll know who, and even longer (if ever) before we know why. Speculation is that he was inside the RV. Also shows that he signed over two properties to a woman living in California for zero bucks. I'm guessing he either worked there and was let go, or some other connection to the ATT building. | ||

The Tennesean article is interesting. Either that's a super-slow-frame video...or this was some hyper-fast explosion. You can pause it and flip forward frame by frame, and it goes from just sitting there, to a screen full of fireball, in just one frame. That's some serious expansion. Hard to make something flash that big, that hard, that fast... | ||

Joe, that's the difference between a blasting agent and a high explosive (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_explosive _detonation_velocities). The dividing line is typically around 4000 m/s. Looking at ammonium nitrate at 2700 m/s, that would be classified as one used in quarrying where you didn't want to shatter the rock. But add some diesel fuel to it, and the speed goes up to over 4000. The others on the chart require some serious chemistry to produce and serious contacts to procure. But you can mix AN-FO in a mortar mixer and set it off with dynamite.
