We were enjoying ourselves at last months ASBN meeting, when in rolls Keith on the S2 I sold to him two or three years ago. It sounded great. I told my wife, "Man that S2 is the best sounding bike in the parking lot". I walked over to admire the bike. Handsome. Keith asks me if I would be interested in re-acquiring it, to which I said, "heck yes". Just meant to be, I guess. I'm glad about it. Here she is in Death Valley.  | ||

I had 4,a 1995 Yellow Jacket Pearl with bags added,a 1995 Ice White Pearl,a 1996 Parkway Blue S2T,the one that got the whole Buell madness started for me,and a 1996 Quicksilver Metallic S2T City of Duluth,GA police bike,one of 3. This is the Ice White Pearl bike.  And the Quicksilver Metallic.  | ||

Jon,it wasn't black,it's more a blue/gray color.It's long been one of my favorites as well.The wheels,tail section and front fender of my V11 Sport Moto Guzzi are a similar color. | ||

I thought I had sworn off Buells,9 was enough,time to do somthing else.Bought an R1150R Rockster and then an air cooled DS1000 Multistrada.But I couldn't stop thinking about Buells,I started looking for a Blue Streak M2,couldn't find one,started thinking about Uly's again and bought one.My problem is I can only afford one new bike at a time.If I want a new bike,I have to sell a bike.I'd like to have the Uly,a nice M2 and another S2/S2T. Motorcycle lust,not enough money or space. | ||

I just haven't been able to rationalize the purchase yet, given how my riding time has declined the last couple years...and how many bikes I already have, in need of repair (cracked header on the S1W) or total restoration (98 Defender project). | ||

I did crash repair on a Honda for a friend recently,he just called and wants adjustable levers and hand guards on the same bike and want's to give me a DL650 Suzuki for doing the work,of course it needs some work and a new front tire.Could become seed money for another tuber. | ||

It's not in the way, don't sweat it. It's kinda neat having it in the garage  I AM fighting the urge to borrow the header though - it has a reinforcing tab on it that I want to have put on mine, when I get it fixed...I'll have to convince the machine shop to duplicate it from a photo. | ||

The primary tubes both meet (about a half-inch apart) before they wrap around the front of the engine. They go across the front of the engine separate, and meet at the collector at the bottom front corner of the engine. This tab is a brace/spacer/reinforcement, between the two primaries, right about where they turn the corner from the side to the front of the engine. It's a brace, to help fight the "tuning fork" vibration of those long, curvy primaries and keep the collector from cracking (like mine did). It looks like they made it from another header - like a sliver of collector. It has a slight curve to it, like the 2.5" part would, and it was simply cut down to fit the space between primaries, and welded in place to both pipes. It might be 3/4"x3/4"...but the theory makes perfect sense and I bet it works like a charm! To me, it looks like the "we need to do something" solution to a cracked collector, that evolved into the larger, more elegant production strap/tab that found its way onto later headers... | ||

Kinda like this:  Now that I think of it, over the years I've seen many - somewhat similar - attempts to tie the 2 header tubes together. Sometimes further upstream, sometimes further downstream. | ||

I had a friend that had a turbo on an S1W back in the early 2000's,that thing was a handful! Ice White Pearl is fine until you have to clean it.Mine had white Marchesini wheels and you couldn't keep the brake dust off them. | ||

My old S2 (red snap with white frame and wheels) was pretty easy to clean - spray a cool wheel (not hot) with Greased Lightning cleaner and let it sit. NOT in the sun. After about 5 min, wipe with a rag and hose off. Done. You can also use Simple Green - I routinely clean my bikes with 50/50 Simple Green and water mix. Same with my '92 Dodge Daytona - all white with white wheels. I drive that car three times and I have to clean the wheels!  Ice White is pretty easy to clean as well - my S1W stays clean, easy to wipe down, doesn't hold a lot of dirt. Same white frame and wheels as the S2, same cleaning process - cool bike, in the shade; spritz with cleaner; 5 min later wipe and rinse. I do have plenty of spare turbochargers around....hmmm.....maybe I could toss one of my Mitsubishi TE04H units on the Defender when I put it back together...hehe...they're small enough to spool up decently off of only 1.2L displacement (I have some Garretts but they want more displacement - 2.5-3.0L - in order to spool up in a reasonable timeframe). | ||

oh my! i had a 90 Daytona ES in white... it would gradually go from brite white to light grey over a week or so.... cleaning was a pita for me.... ever have issues with the pop up headlights? after a few years they would get stuck on mine.... but the V6 with a manual tranny was a fun car to drive... | ||

Yep, I love mine. Bought it brand new in 9/1991, C/S factory Competition Package (1 of 150 total; one of 26 in my color combo), 2.5 high-torque turbocharged 4 cylinder, close-ratio Getrag 5 speed, huge 4 wheel discs, 16" directional wheels, Shelby suspension, quick ratio steering rack, and I added Mopar Performance lowering springs back in the day as well as a 2.5" exhaust system. Headlights have always been good to me, but it's a garage-kept one-owner car with 74k on the odometer so I guess I'm cheating a little, LOL. I do have E-code H4 conversion lamps in it, currently with LEDs but thinking about changing to HID bulbs just to get more light downrange out here in deer country. It is a ton of fun to drive - I've got the boost set for 14 psi right now - still fun, but not psycho-blow-headgaskets-fun like I used to. It still has the original motor, head, and turbo, but I think I've put four or five headgaskets on it due to running high boost back in the day. I used to run it daily at 25psi, which would lift the head just enough to pop the gasket without damaging any hard parts...but now that parts are getting more rare; vendors are getting harder to find; and I just have less desire to do a Thursday-evening-headgasket-swap anymore, I'm just taking it easy(easier), while still feeding it enough boost to have some fun (stock boost is 7psi). | ||

My main issue with white is the frequency of cleaning.I sold the Ice White Pearl bike years ago but have had another white bike with white wheels,an R1150R Rockster in matte white.I could clean the wheels on it and they would be dirty again 20 miles later.  |
