My current plans are to arrive in the East Troy area on Wednesday. Probably hanging out at Gus's for food.

Thursday morning/early afternoon I plan to head to Uke's in Kenosha to do another tour of their little in-house museum, which has a bunch of Buell in it. I made a call to them to see if they can provide a behind-the-scenes tour, similar to the one we got during HC2010. Keith Ulicki was the host then, and there's lots of stuff not visible to the naked eye that he was able to provide. It would be cool if we could pull him out of retirement to do the honors again!

Friday morning I'll be at Steve and Doris's for a tasty breakfast before I head to Blackhawk Farms to watch Buell and EBR guys race at the AHRMA event there for the balance of the weekend. Turns out it's a "non spectator" event (Thanks, Illinois!!) so unless you are a crew member, there's no access!! So much for supporting our local teams!

I trust guys will be camping in Mukwonago, but I'm gonna check rates at the Quality Inn in East Troy.

Suggestions for dinners, etc? Obviously a meet-up at the factory is no longer an option for us...dammit!!

BUZZKILL!!!

I got 7 letters - one is repeated... - for Illinois!

Well, at least the races weren't cancelled altogether like another event that I had hoped to check out while I will be in the area.

Just to make sure I have the gathering details, ( what there are of them). Thursday is open with Gus' in E. Troy being the common informal meeting place. Friday morning is breakfast at Steve and Doris' lovely home, and Friday night at the Aagaard Moto Foundry.

It looks like a short jaunt from TwoSeasons home to the Moto Foundry, and a bit longer evening ride back to the Country View Campground, but still the place to be to enjoy the good fireside company of Ourdee.

Last year, Kim Tordik mentioned moving to a new EBR office in Mukwonago, ( and let slip it would be closer to Erik and the guys at Fuell) Has there been any inquiry or contact from either company about opportunity to visit them? I realize based on what Kim said her EBR office would be little more than that, and not particularly gearhead centric, but If Fuell had an open door, I would love to see what their operation looks like.

I'll bet Mike Kirkpatrick knows something about Fuell.

Court probably knows something too about Fuell but won't tell us for a least a couple more decades..."remind me to tell you"...kiss my ... I can see it now! At Court's funeral there will be a recorder sitting in the corner with all of Court's "remind me to tell you" snippets and we'll all breathlessly be waiting for those words of wisdom when the recorder, all of the sudden, will go up in smoke like Mission Impossible! Then Court's body would twitch...he's smiling !

I've made contact with Brenda Ulicki at Uke's in Kenosha. Keith is currently on vacation, but she expects him back by Thursday, July 23. She's going to check to be sure and will let me know. If Keith is available, I know he can provide some cool insight into the Buell memorabilia there. I have tentatively set a 2:00 pm time at Uke's that day, Thursday. If you're interested in the "tour" at Uke's let me know so I can pass numbers to Brenda at Uke's prior.

I'm kinda seeing lunch at Gus's and a nice ride to Uke's following lunch. I'm betting 1313 knows a good route, but we can also plan on meeting at Uke's at 2:00. Roma's on Thursday has been an annual stop, so who's up for some pasta?

In case some are wondering "Why the hell on THURSDAY?", I can only offer an explanation from my 10 years of appearances at HOMEcoming. Buell and EBR have typically been involved in racing, and HOMEcoming has typically been scheduled the week before racing at Road America with AMA/MotoAmerica. Racers and/or race bikes could make an appearance and then bust over to the track for the weekend. Since EBR no longer has racers in MotoAmerica, the date slid to the weekend AHRMA raced. So the PLAN was to go watch Buell/EBR racers in the AHRMA events, this year at Blackhawk Farms. Illinois successfully burned that bridge to the ground due to their COVID restrictions making it a non-spectator event.

So for this kid, I'll be in the area starting Wednesday, Gus's for lunch on Thursday with a run to Uke's following lunch. Thursday evening for some pasta. Breakfast at Steve and Doris's Friday morning and I'll be heading to Blackhawk as crew for some guys the balance of the weekend.

Looking forward to making another trip to Wisconsin, even if it means dealing with Chicago traffic!!

There is a way to beat the Chicago traffic.

Run I-70 out to IL47 North. Take that all the way to WI120 to Lake Geneva.

And you are here

I think a Thursday ride to Uke's might be interesting. Although now ancient history, I understand the old AMC/Nash test track is somewhere between Kenosha and E. Troy. In memory of my long sold but still loved AMX, I might try to locate it on my way back. It also looks like I might be solo at Country View campground, I haven't committed to a site there yet, so if there is another campground with a gathering of Buell riders, I would relocate pretty easily.

Mn,
Spent a little time riding some concept bikes on part of the AMC proving grounds track in the early 2000s. The place has quite a history.

>>>>. The place has quite a history.

That’s a fact.

In addition to a fabeled history with the AMC Pacer ... it’s also where the famous Martin Brown (some will recall the night I convinced.... wearing an blue Aerostich with an American Flag .... a bar full of folks that I was an Astronaut and that Marty, in his red ‘Stich was a visiting Cosmonaut) put on an accidental Joey Chitwood thrill show for visiting Showa executives and engineers while testing the M2 Cyclone (one of the best motorcycles ever made and I can prove it) ......

It took some time to recover from all of that and some of us are still scared.

So the test facility under the current owners did research work for Buell/HD, or did they simply rent test track time?

Ether way, if there were a historic Buell tie in, and amenable contact were made, it might be an interesting tour stop for a future HC....

Just got a confirmation that Keith WILL be available on Thursday at 2:00 pm for a guided tour of the Uke's vintage Buell collection with our group. For planning purposes, can folks let me know who would plan to attend? It will NOT impact the tour, but as a courtesy I will be letting Brenda know on Wednesday an approximate headcount.

I'm going to make my reservation at the Quality Inn in East Troy shortly.

Looking forward to another weekend in Wisconsin!

It's probably best to do a public service reminder that we're planning a gathering amid COVID concerns everywhere. Regardless of your views on the topic, please be sure to respect the views of everyone else you might come in contact with, maintain social distancing in whatever method is requested (or demanded) by hosts or fellow Buellers, be it masks, 6 feet separation, plexiglass bubbles...

I've gotten several responses re; our guided tour at Uke's on Thursday at 2:00 pm, but if you're planning to go and haven't done so, send me a PM or post here so I can let Brenda know a range of heads to participate. We have a group planning to depart after a lunch at Gus's, but if you want to meet us at Uke's, that's OK, too. Just let me know. Chris is said to be working up a route to Uke's, perhaps avoiding a 100 mph blast like we had last year!

My personal plans for Blackhawk races have vaporized, so I'll be hanging around ET thru Saturday. Gus's dining room isn't open, so outside dining is the only option. They open at 11 am, so that's around when I'll be there Thursday for lunch. The Princess Cafe' is my choice for breakfast. Dinner plans? Do we do Roma's on Thursday?

Don't forget to let Steve and Doris know if you'll be enjoying their breakfast buffet on Friday! Steve and Doris: I won't be doing my usual eat-and-run Friday morning, so be prepared to put up with me for a longer period of time!

Hi all,
Last minute question... So tomorrow Wednesday we are NOT meeting at the parking lot of the old factory, correct?
And Thursday morning there is a get together (time/where at) to go to Uke"s (time/where at), right?
Sorry, been reading but not clear on places/times. Thanks!!

CORRECT! I rode by yesterday afternoon as I got into town amd there are some new tenants in 2799 - at least some of the building. There is nothing left of Buell or EBR occupying either building - other than memories. Sad but true, unfortunately...

The guided tour at Uke's is stated above to begin at 2:00 Thursday. Whoever is at Gus's at lunch will be leaving from Gus's heading to Uke's. AFAIK, no departure time from Gus's has been determined yet...
