Many of us understand exactly how much you miss Kelsey. On March 26th, I had to put down my German Shepherd, Chief. Then 6 days later on April 1st my son's Cocker Spaniel, Maggie made that last trip to the vet. Chief was 11 and Maggie was 13.

These animals become so much a part of our daily lives that it defies description. They love us unconditionally and a good dog is better than what most of us deserve.

Sorry for your loss, Joe. Losing our furry friends is always hard.

Joe:

No way you did anything to in any way harm or disconcert your Kelsey. She surely was comfortable outside with her pack on such an amazingly nice day. She was at peace, no doubt. Dogs don't carry ANY baggage. I can't imagine a better more peaceful way for a dog to pass than lying down outside on a beautiful Spring day in the company of her pack, knowing full well you would return in the evening. I hope when Darrell's time comes that he has such a peaceful passing. I hate the euthenization, and that's even with vet came to the house for my Border Collie, Roger, some 14 years ago.

Joe,
That's ok, I teared up when I posted it thinking about my beloved malamute Beau. He was my "once in a lifetime" dog. Lived 11 years and I had to take him on his final ride. It was the first time my wife had seen me cry anything other than tears of joy.

With you Joe. My black lab Shepard, Muchie, was with me 17 years until last October.
She named herself the day we got her as a pup. She was so happy to join us in the car that day. Licking, tail wagging, hugging, snuggling all at once. Too much became Muchie. Her early too much wasn't really any more than just enough.

We took a cage to bring her home in, but never had her get near it. She sat up on the center of the front seat looking out at passing items to interrupt herself with a quick lick to one of our faces every few minutes. It was love at first sight.

Age got her too. Gray hairs. Doggie arthritis, failing hips, got to be when we let her out she couldn't walk back. A true sadness.
When she died we decided rather than to sulk in saddness, that we'd focus on how she made us happy. The joy we got from her letting each of our grand children be her "puppy" in turn. It was incredible the way she took to them.

Then last month my favorite cat came Ill. He was about 12. Runt of the litter. Fit in my shirt pocket. We fed him with an eye dropper. As he grew He out did the siblings He came with. He spent most of his days hanging out with me in my shop.

Damn the age. It's happening to all of us. I count these critters as essential blessings as we pass through time together.
So congratulations on having such an awesome loving pet. We are the lucky ones.

What Vern said.

Saturday I had planned to make two flatbreads- one with pepperoni, spinach, provolone, Romano, and M's homemade pizza starter, the other to be a pulled chicken with basil pesto spinach and Romano... M's brother had brought fried chicken a couple of days earlier. So, she pulled the chicken, set it aside for me to work with later. When it came time to prep the chicken flatbread...? Where'd the chicken go???

I'll give youn's one guess. Apparently we didn't "Basenij-proof" well enough. That was easily 6-8oz of bird, GONE.

Oh well.
