Pros and cons of, on May 1st or May 15th we all show up at our state capitals, with PPE and demand we go back to work. There are many of us sitting home and now have the time to start to push back on the government's decision shut down the majority of the US.

Forget the PPE, I'm showing up with a lit torch and a pitchfork. The governor here in MI is a mess. It's been over 50 years since a woman told me, "Go to your room and don't come out until I say so!"

Don't start me on Michigan rules right now. No fishing from a boat with a motor! WTF? When I first heard that one I kind of assumed it was a misunderstanding of the rules being forced on us. Then I looked it up. https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406- 98810-525445--,00.html

I'm not sure what "government" you want to protest. It's all pretty much on the state governments at this point. While I take this epidemic seriously, many of the rules governors are coming up with are silly.

Tom is right. We NEED TO PROVE THE DATA.

I'd love to get back to work, selling fancy steaks and big $$$ wines to wealthy Knoxvillians. Torches and pitchforks are so Shelley. Not useful. Until my regular customers believe/TRUST they can go out and eat, I'm screwed.

Of course no one trusts anyone anymore. So, zombies. I'm doing my best to parse the truth.

I'm sure that many here no longer trust the "MSM", try to parse out what's real. I have always, and will always, trust my eyes as I look into yours. Those here who follow the far right, you're gonna get a crick in your neck if you never look the other way.

Paragliding?

Tandem training, maybe. But how much distancing could you ask for past away from the planet as much as possible?

Stay calm. Vote.

Squids, glad you caught my Frankenstein reference. I agree it's a useless gesture but so is about everything else. Still, tar and feather or being run out of town on a rail has its nostalgic appeal. I'd also hate to think that infringement of constitutional rights was just a concern of conservatives.

I can’t think of a better place to socially distance yourself than in a single seat, or in the instant case, no seat, aircraft.

It's absolutely great that we all are watching and worrying about our Constitutional Rights. Until this F ing virus has been proven to be no longer a risk, look after yourself and your own. Especially your elders... find a way to connect them to your kids.

Until we find a silver bullet for this thing, your 2nd Amendment rights or your pitchforks, torches, won't kill it. Well, maybe torches, but that would be painful.

Brad - the 2A isn't to kill the virus (unlike what many MSM talking heads and politicos would have you believe). The 2A (in the immediate sense) is to protect oneself from bad actors in society who are taking advantage of the fact that:

1. police forces are diminished, and those who are on duty are restricted as to what they are allowed to do

2. stores and businesses are shuttered and unattended, inviting vandalism and theft

3. people are off work. bored. broke. and restless - none of which are good on their own, and all of which are worse in concert.

4. criminals are being released from prison to "prevent the spread". combine freed criminals, with points 1, 2, and 3.

A 9mm isn't going to shoot the corona out of someone...but if somebody comes after me, or my property, or my loved ones, I have every right to defend myself as I see fit. As do you. And with diminished law enforcement, and limited response capabilities for the LEOs who are still on duty...personal safety falls more on the person than ever before. Quite literally, there is no backup. Only cleanup. Cops will get there after the deed is done, to catalog and identify the players, reasons, and losses.

Are you prepared?

If you don't want to prepare, that's fine. It's your right to make your own decision for yourself. But don't you DARE tell me that I cannot prepare as I see fit. THAT is the crux of the 2A debate, not "it can't stop the virus, so it's not essential".

And a lot of people understand that. NICS inquiries were up four HUNDRED percent for the month of March, compared to a year ago. It isn't about stopping a virus - it's about protecting you and your loved ones from things you CAN stop, and random governor's decisions about what can and can't be done cannot be allowed to take that away.

The fear for our constitutional rights is, now that the power-hungry have had a taste, it'll be harder and harder to rein it back in. For example - why, on God's green earth, were people threatened with ARREST for going to Easter mass, outdoors, in their own cars (with plenty of social distancing as a result)? There's another constitutional right, violated - freedom of religion. Can't have God, if you want Government to be the state religion.

What makes that OK?

States telling people (as noted above) that you cannot paraglide (solo). Or fish (solo). States telling people they cannot cycle, or exercise outdoors (solo). No caveat "without social distancing"....just a flat "you cannot do that". Police chasing a SOLO SURFER IN THE OCEAN. What the hell is that?

Simple.

Power.

Many in office are addicted to it, and this is allowing them to cross a line, flex their muscles, and take away OUR RIGHTS.

I'm sure you are familiar with the concept of "death by a thousand cuts" - well...here you go. No biking. No surfing. No church. No guns.

You might not care about all of them - but I bet you damned sure care about SOME of them.

What's next to go?

When do these "temporary, emergency" rules cease to exist?

Who decides?

Are we sure it'll stop? Or will it turn into "get into the boxcar, citizen"?

And, therein lies the TRUE concept behind the 2A. The Founders didn't write it so we could defend ourselves against carjackings, or so we could hunt - they wrote it so we, the citizens, as individuals, could fight against a tyrannical government. Like they did with the British. Like the meme says - "Washington and his troops didn't stop the British with free speech. They shot them."

When is enough?

Like I said - you may not care about my right to own and carry a gun, but I bet you care about your ability to worship as you see fit. Both are equally important, and both are equally powerful.

And if we lose one, who's to say the other won't be next?

If we give up ANY rights, it opens the door for them to take another. And another. And another.

As I said - when is enough? Where's the line? Who decides?

Well, I'm still working, and I've driven to quite a few "hot spots" this year...

So far I haven't seen The Walking Dead in the streets, and haven't had my access restricted to anything - other than businesses which are closed.

If Civil War II breaks out, I'm going on defense mode and will wait for most others to finish each other off. After all, to get to the ideal population of 500,000,000 worldwide, we need to cull the herd somehow... right?

Willmrx, whatcha flying?

I sold my WW U2, and am in between gliders. But I have Ti knees now, and am about ready.

I had a hoot in the Owens valley a century ago? With my Attack Duck. Which dates me... Better yet, I built & flew a Batso.

Also built an Eipper-Formance Flexi Floater, flew Flexi II, Bobcat, Kestrel, Cirrus 5, SST, ASG-21, Comet, Sensor,.......BFG! ( shortened The list )

The Gecko looks good...

Anyway. Stay calm and remember. Pitchforks and tar, later, if need be.

All I know is that the "the Constitution was written for reasonable restrictions" people are the first to complain when such backwards ideas affect their daily lives. Oh well. We told you so.

We've been deemed an essential business. Selling guns makes me happy. Buying them males me happier, but I'm not in a position for that. I've got what I need.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/04/l iberate_america_by_turning_the_political_pain_up_t o_11.html

When I said I was for keeping calm it's just practical to do so. It's not practical to threaten the wannabe aristocracy when they've got cooperation in informing on the violators.

My Emperor has ordered all business declared vital & allowed to be open at his whim to have all employees wear masks, and told the public to inform on violators by calling 911 like good little East Germans.

At this time, calling for his vigilante execution is a stupid, illegal? And definitely foolish display of insensitivity to rule of law and risk of imprisonment. Even in times his popularity is low, and the public isn't cheerfully ( or at least willingly ) buying into the grab for absolute power, threatening violence against public servants is more a way to commit suicide by cop than changing the course of history.

At a time his daily well scripted, professional free campaign speech/report on how wise and kind, and better than Trump he is, ( accompanied by some information on the plague,) with graphics of quotes from Alexander Hamilton, complete with split screen portraits, quotes from the speech as it's given, his popularity is at an all time high. Even people that hate his corruption, oppression of civil rights, and lies, have to admit he's been doing a better, more rational, job than the communist dictators of the People's republics of California and Michigan.

That bar is pretty darn low.

Being put in prison, ( or a jail cell crowded with infected prisoners ) for threatening a public Master certainly won't help anyone recover their civil rights.

There's a famous quote by some General about being polite... follow it as you legally, in the manner our Republic has functioned for over two centuries, write about your concerns, politely, rationally, to your public employees, urging calm and swift return to economic prosperity and the freedoms we all cherish.

Calling for a counter revolution on the internet is as foolish as standing in the town square in Berlin in 1940 ( right after his triumph over those filthy French who crippled the economy and gravely insulted the country with the Versailles treaty ) and calling for The Chancellor to be overthrown by violence by the mob. Worse than useless, and personally risky.

On a lighter note.

Being stuck at home is a great time to clean stuff, oil and exercise moving machinery, and learn. Get some exercise yourself, and broaden your knowledge of subjects of interest. Maybe Emulate the fans of Hollywood stars, know their names, habits, where their mansions and summer homes are. Favorite restaurants, favorite colors, likes and dislikes. All for cheap entertainment. Celebrities love fans & listen to them.

Or Netflix and chill! ( that means get laid, right? )

Aesquire. I have a Wills Wing U2 160 now and still have a Aeros cpmbatl154 which was the best glider I have ever flown. I had a 80 mph air speed with a 81 mph ground speed, very fast and had a killer climb rate. Have you seen the Jay leno's garage episode with Pete Brock's hang gliding van? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR9Hicp_olQ
I started flying in 82 in New England and moved to Ca, so I could hang glide every day! Here is a video of a camera inside the sail of my Combatl, during flight a different speeds.

The Combat is on my short list.

80????? Dang! I'm big, so I prefer larger gliders, and slow speed low sink rate is my primary need. You remember how small and weak New England lift can be.

I flew a SST 110G tandem ( 265 square feet ) one day at Ellenville NY in near zero conditions for an hour. Sailplanes couldn't stay up. There had to be 300 linear feet of cable bracing...triple deflexors with pulleys, but at a brisk walking pace parasitic drag was low. I doubt you could hit 40 mph in a vertical dive in that barge, and under penetration I think the phrase is "seriously?". It sang like a harp in flight.

The U2 160 is a great glider. I had To stop flying because work and arthritis trashed my knees. The surgeon who replaced them, told me after surgery, he couldn't believe how bad they were ( and, yeah, he had seen the x-rays ) and his assistant didn't believe I had walked into the office.

It probably says nothing good about me that I've had doctors freaked out more than once that I walked into their office, for a couple of different reasons.

Joe, buddy, didn't mean to "get your back up". You're absolutely correct to be wary of various potential infringements of our rights, whether we're dealing with this COVID19 stuff or not. My view is that we've all got one chance to defeat the virus, the first time. Until we have a national aggregate of accurate data that proves we've dropped below the safe threshold, we all must maintain the precautions. Yes, we're all jumpy to get out of this craptastic mess, but we MUST take care in such decisions.

I pray every day that none of us contracts the bug. I also act daily, doing what I can, to see that prayer into reality. Please, everyone, please do the same.

BTW Joe, I appreciate your views and your passion. Same for Tom, and the rest of us who are muddling through this reality. The sum total of sharp minds I see here daily is flat awesome. Love to you all.

843!!!!! Beat me by 62!

Not a contest you want to win.

Almost a year ago, minus a few days. Felt cruddy, had gone in for a routine blood test, and my Doc calls me at 9:30 pm. Tells me to get to the ER, Now! She'd call me in.

I argued, why not drop by her office tomorrow? Nope. She said she couldn't give me the meds I needed. 4 days in the hospital until they released me.

I'm on a diet now...

And one of those tv drugs. You know, "don't take X if you're allergic to X. Side effects include nausea, changing color, and spontaneous human combustion."

It probably says nothing good about me that I've had doctors freaked out more than once that I walked into their office, for a couple of different reasons.

Yeah, I know that feeling. My bad wreck in July '08 netted me a helicopter ride, hours on the table, and six months learning to walk again.

A year after that I looked up my surgeon - head of Trauma/Orthopaedics at Johns Hopkins. Went to see him on the anniversary, to say thanks.

He fell into his chair when I walked in.

We chatted for a bit. I tried hard not to notice the super-cute redhead nurse who was there, with her head buried in a file. I asked him what happened when I walked in - why'd he react the way he did?

He told me in no uncertain terms - "we're a teaching hospital, and let's face it - you were one hell of a teaching exercise when you came in. We put you on the table and fixed you up...as an exercise. But every single one of us figured you were going to leave in a bag."

Um...WOW. That was an eye-opener. I knew I was lucky, but...holy shit.

That was when the nurse looked up from the file.

"wait....this guy (pointing at the file)...is YOU???"

It's pretty cool when you can freak doctors out, just by being too stubborn to die.
