Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley said he believes Iran’s attacks on air bases in Iraq on Wednesday were intended to kill Americans and that advance intelligence enabled troops to take cover. But where the missiles exploded within the base perimeter suggests they were intended to kill U.S. personnel, he said. “The points of impact were close enough to personnel and equipment and so on and so forth, I believe, based on what I saw and what I know, is that they were intended to cause structural damage, destroy vehicles and equipment and aircraft, and to kill personnel,” Milley said. Some news reports earlier in the day suggested that the Pentagon believed Iran deliberately avoided harming U.S. troops. The absence of casualties “has more to do with the defensive techniques our forces used than it does with intent,” Milley added. “Al-Asad is a big base. They put 11 large rockets with 1,000-pound, 2,000-pound warheads in it, but we took sufficient defensive measures." That they didn’t kill anyone was a good reason to call it a draw, but, in reality, they meant to kill folks. Their failure worked to their advantage, and that’s the story most are selling. And buying, apparently. Which I guess is good. It let us call off hostilities. | ||

By "face saving gesture" I meant they HAD to do something for domestic consumption. The country teeters on the brink of revolution, and only terror tactics and mass murder is keeping the Mullahs in power. So a visible retaliation was for internal reasons, mostly. Externally, I don't think they care much anymore. They have a large number of useful idiots in Europe and here that seem to want the Mullahs to conquer the world, by pretending it isn't happening. Can Iran conquer? No, but the ongoing effort kills thousands, and when, not if, their proxies in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, etc. start launching mass missile strikes, the death toll will be horrible. Expect Saudi oil facilities and Syrian, Iraqi, and Israeli civilians to be the primary targets. The best time to take out Iran was immediately after the Revolution, but Carter wouldn't and his minions aided in accepting a fantasy world where we pretended they weren't at war with us, no matter what the Mullahs themselves said in public, over and over again. Second best was after we'd freed Iraq. Bush asked for a plan but Traitors at the CIA decided they knew better than the elected officials and leaked the request, making surprise & a clean operation impossible. Deep State Treason & shadow rule may have started long before, but that was the end of any trust in the Intelligence agencies. Since the vast majority of U.S. & Iraqi civilian casualties were from Iranian supported AQ and with Iranian weapons, that was a major mistake. There were ways to combat that ongoing flood of Iranian sponsored terrorism, coming from Iran & Syria ( bankrolled by Iran ) but that wasn't policy. | ||

The military hostile schools are run by leftists & are essentially communist indoctrination camps that won't teach honest history or American Civics. Their products are likely to vote away freedom in exchange for "free" high speed internet. Lefty parents are highly unlikely to urge their children to enlist in military service. OTOH, the children of rural and military towns are highly likely to be taught about the Constitution and history, and he encouraged to serve their nation. Normally that leads to a commentary on the social division between useless elitist youth who will be qualified for jobs being taken over by robots as minimum wage increases & the rich kids whose parents bribe their way into Ivy League schools to become terrible elitist snobs.... And the lower & mid middle class kids who know how to be actually productive members of society. But of more immediate effect, is what's going to happen when, for example, the Blackface Governor of Virginia orders the Guard to attack the Citizens who object to the Unconstitutional Gun Grab that's speeding it's way to his desk for signature. American troops aren't going to surround the Capitol and stage a coup. They know duty & honor. But they also are not going to want to fire on peaceful gatherings of their coaches and neighbors. Most law enforcement outside major cities, and most military, especially State Guard, are not onboard with Unconstitutional power grabs. And most people objecting to Unconstitutional power grabs know the local police and Guard are their own. I expect the troops sent by tyrants to attack their neighbors will be greeted with cookies and "come to the freedom side" posters. We live in interesting times. | ||
