"There was this can just sitting there. And I thought. "What is the name of God?""

The name of God is Jehovah.
Psalm 83:18 King James Version (KJV)
18. That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

Exodus 6:3 King James Version (KJV)
3. And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.

---

""False Doctrine" is thrown out there as soon as you point out that the word trinity is not used in the bible"

TRINITY means THREE, in '1 John 5: 7' 'and these three are one' means TRINITY! so trinity is used in the King James Version bible.
1 John 5: 7 King James Version (KJV)
7. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell." Christ Jesus

Amen to that directly from the mouth of our creator and savior.

Crusty,

"If God is all knowing and all powerful, why does he want you (or anybody else) to grovel?"

What makes you think God wants you to "grovel"?

He tells us we should love Him above all else as we also love our neighbors. Why not love the foundation of all that is good and true and perfectly loving, moral, and just? To elevate anything else above God is to elevate it to supremacy over God, and that is absolutely deadly.

Your question is essentially making the exact same appeal to human pride as the serpent did to Eve.

What's interesting is that presented with the person of God, there's not a man on the the planet who wouldn't melt-down and grovel. In contrast, we are all filthy dirty corrupt people, criminals every one. As every dark thought and deed from our earthly life is played back to us in front of the judge of the world, we all must admit guilt. But our debt has been paid, and we are redeemed to our creator, because He Himself has paid the penalty for all our crimes.

We merely need to sincerely repent and trust in Christ, His saving grace. There is no other way to be redeemed to our creator. Groveling will have zero effect. Loving makes ALL the difference, for to love God, we must know God, and to know God is to recognize His perfect goodness and supreme and righteous authority over us all.

Even a human judge in a court room demands respect.

Only 2? Bull. Totalitarian falsehood. Declarations that thousands of years of previous religions are all one thing are propaganda. And pretty transparent tribalism, at that. All not in agreement in every detail equals evil.

Islam uses the "Us, the righteous, and everyone else is wrong" mantra as well, but doesn't pretend Hindu is the same as Shinto is the same as Zoroastrian. Lumps them together as pagan, yeah. They at least divide the world of worship to them, the other peoples of the book, and all those other savages.

Similar intolerance to any variation other than the narrow man made subdivision of their own particular sect.

And apparently willful ignorance of the "cultural appropriation" ( not a bad thing ) used by The Church for centuries before Martin Luthor split it in twain. Which then shattered into a Legion of splinter groups.

A Christmas tree isn't Satanic. It's local paganism, absorbed, remolded. Christ's birthday ( likely in March ) was hidden under Roman party time. ( which cut down on being thrown to the lions ) Palm Sunday, even those casseroles, older rituals. : )

"All not in agreement in every detail equals evil."

The serpent/lucifer/devil/satan said 'Yea, hath God said'.
Genesis 3 King James Version (KJV)
3. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

---

"cultural appropriation"

Is doctrines of man not of God. Do as man said not as God said.

---

"Martin Luther split it in twain"

Before Martin Luther there was still a remnant of believers throughout the world that taught the teaching of Jesus Christ.
God said he would keep his word for all generations.
Psalm 12:6-7 King James Version (KJV)
6. The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Patrick,

Unless one holds to relativism, we know that some beliefs correspond to reality and some do not; that some are true, and some are false. We also know that some false beliefs can be deadly. For example, you'd not want tell people you love to believe what they want, if they are heading towards an avoidable catastrophe due to a false belief. You'd want warn them and share the truth to try to spare them the impending catastrophe due to their false belief(s), yes?

Most people believe in a higher power and an eternal soul, but if most have contrived a god of their own making, a false god that sees them as good and is forgiving of their crimes, might their false belief lead them to catastrophe?

We are created in God's image, so when we behave contrary to His nature, we essentially lie about who God is. Theft is not wrong because it is unjust to the victims. Theft is wrong because God is not a thief. Sexual immorality is wrong not because it spreads disease, cheapens personal intimacy, harms people and families or because God says so. Sexual immorality is wrong because God is not a selfish hedonistic pleasure seeker, but rather God is perfectly faithful.

Bottom line: Either Jesus is who he claimed, or he was a lunatic and all the Apostle's were completely deluded for they dedicated their lives affirming the Word of Jesus contrary to all their own church tradition and beliefs at the time.

Saul of Tarsus, later known as Paul, turned literally overnight from zealous brutal mass-persecutor of Christ's followers to one of Christ's most zealous loving advocates. We have a number of his letters to the earliest Christian congregations which now comprise much of "The New Testament."

New Testament scholars virtually unanimously affirm the historicity of five basic facts about Jesus of Nazareth: 1) that Jesus was crucified and died under Roman authority, 2) Jesus was laid to rest in a tomb by Joseph of Aramathea, 3) The tomb was then found empty, 4) Jesus was then seen by numerous eyewitnesses, and 5) The apostle's all affirmed and testified that Jesus had risen and went on to establish the Christian church accordingly despite their own religious beliefs and traditions to the contrary, and at grave risk to themselves.

Dr. Craig lays out the case better than I have including a lot of supporting information. See what you think...

https://www.reasonablefaith.org/writings/popular-w ritings/jesus-of-nazareth/the-resurrection-of-jesu s/

See what you think. Think about how your world view corresponds and cohere with reality and four profoundly important questions:

1) Origin
2) Purpose
3) Morality
4) Destiny

Only one that I've seen answers all with perfect coherence and correspondence to reality.

But why care?

The great C.S. Lewis exposes the craven cowardice and irresponsibility of such an attitude, but he uses nicer words, for the most part:

https://youtu.be/X9fR1vSxNEQ

Are you familiar with the story of Christ's crucifixion and the different behavior of the two thieves who were crucified with Him?

We are all essentially one or the other.

Patches,

Which version of the Bible should non-English speakers use? Most of the people in the world now do not read English, and in antiquity including all the Apostle's and early church founders people did not speak, read, or write English. Which version of the Bible should they have used?

Don't be a clanging gong, don't make the Lord's gospel difficult. For is not that what the men who had Christ crucified did? Beware traditions of men.

"If you will abide in my word, then you will truly be my disciple, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." — Christ Jesus

Paul says that we must "answer with gentleness and love" (paraphrasing).

My approach is to question parts of some translations that appear problematic, and there are indeed some glaring problems in some.

Your argument Blake is quite a bit more compelling than just quoting a book.

Makes sense too.

But before I dispute or argue or agree, there is a nice lady doing great work by giving a nude picture of herself to anyone who donates $10 to one of several Australian fire relief funds. She has raised over $10k. I won't post her contact info here, you can look it up. It seems a worthy cause in a time of natural disaster, and a great people need our aid.

I admit, that from the viewpoint of a father, I'm a bit conflicted.

Bible translations

I do not know how many Languages translations there are. I only speak/ read English.
The churches of the Protestant Reformation translated the Greek of the Textus Receptus to produce vernacular Bibles, such as the German Luther Bible (1522), the Polish Brest Bible (1563), the Spanish "Biblia del Oso" (in English: Bible of the Bear, 1569) which later became the Reina-Valera Bible upon its first revision in 1602, the Czech Melantrich Bible (1549) and Bible of Kralice (1579-1593) and numerous English translations of the Bible. Tyndale's New Testament translation (1526, revised in 1534, 1535 and 1536) and his translation of the Pentateuch (1530, 1534) and the Book of Jonah were met with heavy sanctions given the widespread belief that Tyndale changed the Bible as he attempted to translate it. Tyndale's unfinished work, cut short by his execution, was supplemented by Myles Coverdale and published under a pseudonym to create the Matthew Bible, the first complete English translation of the Bible. Attempts at an "authoritative" English Bible for the Church of England would include the Great Bible of 1538 (also relying on Coverdale's work), the Bishops' Bible of 1568, and the Authorized Version (the King James Version) of 1611, the last of which would become a standard for English speaking Christians for several centuries.
The first complete French Bible was a translation by Jacques Lefèvre d'Étaples, published in 1530 in Antwerp.[17] The Froschauer Bible of 1531 and the Luther Bible of 1534 (both appearing in portions throughout the 1520s) were an important part of the Reformation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_translations_i nto_the_languages_of_Africa

From what I understand the Reina-Valeraan (Spanish Bible) pre1960 and some of the African language Bibles changed to Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus manuscripts. I only speak English so I never researched it. I will state it again I NEVER said the 'King James Version' was the ONLY TRUE WORD OF GOD in the WORLD, I said the 'King James Version' was the ONLY TRUE WORD OF GOD in ENGLISH FOR ME!

Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus are Catholic manuscripts. I believe are forgeries. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!

Does that mean that the word of God is relevant and not objective? If there can be a different word of God for someone else?

Man or Rabbit is finely crafted rhetoric. Everyone wishes they could speak extemporaneously like this. Having an awesome voice and backing track of soaring strings while you were speaking wouldn't hurt either.

While I agree with most of Lewis' critiques of the willfully ignorant, "the man who has lost intellectual virginity," I disagree with his assumption that "If Christianity is untrue, then no honest man will want to believe it, however helpful it might be."

I don't follow the Bible literally, I follow the mainstream general interpretation of it as practical wisdom, the kind of wisdom that has materially improved the lives of countless wild outlaw bikers.

"The very point of existence" while complex and theologically pure is still enforced by rabbits in various stages of transformation into men. Like everybody else, they have occasional relapses into their "cowardly and sensual rabbit" ways.

1 John 5 : 7
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

King James Version (KJV)

People's Bible Notes for 1 John 5 : 7

1Jo 5 : 7 There are three that bear record in heaven, etc. This verse is not found in the Revised Version or in any ancient MS. It is no doubt an interpolation.

The KJV is a beautiful work. We are blessed in this day with the ability to research where verses were translated from. There are things I try not to do in front of new church members or those that are interested in becoming saved. One is to argue doctrine beyond what is needed to get their foot in the door.

The Revised Version New Testament translation was translated from the Westcott and Hort New Testament published in 1881. The New Testament published in 1881 was translated from the Codex Vaticanus, Codex Sinaiticus, both Codex are Vatican(Catholic) manuscripts.

---

Society of Jesus

Bishop Brooke Foss Westcott and Dr. Fenton John Anthony Hort translators of the New Testament published in 1881 based on the Codex Vaticanus, Codex Sinaiticus which both Codex are Vatican(Catholic) manuscripts.

Westcott and Hort both were "Jesuit" Priest
members of the Society of Jesus. Society of Jesus main purpose is Counter-Reformation to denounce the King James Version (KJV) and put an end to the divinity of Jesus Christ.

This is why I say it is evil to use the modern versions and also Revelation 22:18-19. says do not change the Word of God.

Revelation 22:18-19 King James Version (KJV)
18. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

A Five Year Old can read and understand the King James Version (KJV) if he/she is saved.
All it takes to be saved is to believe Jesus Christ is the son of God. This is how you escape the Fires of Hell.

Acts 8:36-38 King James Version (KJV)
36. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
#37. And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

25. Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

29. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
30. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

All it takes to be saved is to believe Jesus Christ is the son of God.

I would call that easy believism. Do you think Satan believes Jesus Christ is the son of God? So, is Satan saved? James 2:18 says, "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." I know a man must repent.

Of course Satan believes that Jesus is the son, but he doesn't believe on him (good way of saying it, KJV).

Just like I believe that Kim jong un exists, but I don't believe In Him. I don't trust him to save me.

Either John 3:16 is true, or the word is lying.
John 3:16 (already posted, already common knowledge)

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Romans 10: 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

I'm sure there are more.

From the best I can tell, the Tithe was law for OT Israelites. It's still good practice today but not a requirement. To my knowledge, Jesus never said anything about tithing. I'm guilty of not tithing as an adult. I keep saying I will when I'm financially able. Which is not a good excuse I know. Ministry, like all things, takes money. Gotta keeps the lights on, the pastor off the streets, keep up the building and put snacks on the table. Not to mention community projects, mission trips, humanitarian aid, etc.

John 1:12 King James Version (KJV)
12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
