Held every year on New Year's Day, regardless of weather. The past few years the weather has been pleasantly mild so you didn't have to be a loon in order to participate. There is no entry fee; riders gather where the old Sidewalk Cafe used to be (the place is now called "August Laura" and although the Sidewalk was a major hangout spot for NYC riders, I don't know about the new management). The riders take off anywhere between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. You can follow a group or go it alone. You ride up the FDR Drive on the eastern side of Manhattan to the GW Bridge, loop around (underneath the bridge) to the West Side Highway and take it south and around the Southern tip back to the starting point. In past years most riders would then go have lunch inside the Sidewalk Cafe but for the past few years my friends and I have been taking the short walk down to Katz's Delicatessen for the finest pastrami in the world. Something to consider for 2021. I don't recall seeing any Buells this year. I did take a FEW photos that you can see online here: http://www.nassauwings.org/cgi-local/DisplayPhoto.REX?photos/2020/0101_Isle_of_Man(hattan)/ (Message edited by jaimec on January 02, 2020) |
