Especially since they have to be TOLD why they should be furious. The certainty that self righteous media thugs are utterly ignorant of history and would have to ask someone who can read to research the mystery "white supremacist" symbol amuses and depresses me. But the bet I want to make myself rich with is my conviction that American Lefty Media would become rabid anti Jacobites if Trump wore a white cockade. ( they already hate the American Revolution ) An additional $5 side bet that Biden ( and others ) would confuse the Princes Charles from 1745 and today. | ||

So I was watching the inquisition this afternoon, between my work shifts. I will admit, it took a while to process what I had witnessed. In a nutshell, they are accusing Trump of withholding aid to the Ukraine in exchange for something of value to him personally, i.e., not something in the interest of our country. The something he was supposedly supposed to get of course, was an investigation into Joe Biden. Sometimes when you get into circular logic, it can get kind of hard to put your finger on where it's going wrong, but I think I've got it sorted out. As I understand this, aid could be withheld in exchange for something of interest to the US. This is done often, and it is claimed to have been done in this case, in fact the Ukraine did pass legislation to help control corruption before the aid was released. Never mind that for now though, we will accept the worst case scenario that it was withheld solely for the purpose of investigating Joe Biden. Joe Biden of course was running for the Democrat nomination to run for President against Trump, so it is of benefit to Trump, there for an impeachable offense, i.e. investigating Trump for this is of course in the interest of the US. The problem with all of this is that is relies on an investigation of Biden NOT being in the interest of the US. In other words, and investigation of an elected US leader (Joe Biden in this case) withholding aid to the Ukraine, in exchange for something of personal value, and not in the interest of the US. This is exactly what they are saying is now in the US interest to investigate (Trump in this case). So if we take all of that at face value, it is in fact, in the US interest to investigate an elected official withholding aid for personal gain. This makes asking for the Biden investigation in the interest of the US, making the claimed request by Trump in the interest of the US. If Trump was acting in the interest of the US, then there is no impeachable offense here. While I'm not convinced that this happened this way, it's where the Dem's logic leads. In a nut shell, if the Trump investigation is valid, then so would Biden's be, proving Trump was acting in the interest of the US. Hope that helps out those who don't want to waste the time on this that I have. | ||

I guess things have been dialed back to obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. Obstruction of Congress is absurd. Presidents claim executive privilege all the time. They have a long standing resolution to this in the courts. Impeachment is not the resolution to executive privilege. Abuse of power isn't even a defined act. I'm pretty sure that discussion of investigating corruption certainly shouldn't fit the bill though. No bribery, no quid-pro-quo, etc. If the vote for this, and I'm sure they will, it's going to be the weakest impeachment ever. I’ll be surprised if it passes. They do NOT want this to go to trial. They were deathly afraid of letting republicans call witnesses. Imagine a trial where republicans set the rules of evidence and can call whomever they like? No, there are too many easily discovered bodies in shallow graves for the democrats to allow that. This was a show from the outset. It’ll be close, in a predetermined way, but it will not pass. Unless, and this would be beautiful, the republicans turn the tables on this little charade and vote to impeach. I’d love to see the looks on their faces when they realize their worst nightmare is about to come to pass. | ||

Part of me hopes the GOP will do that mental math, and vote to move it forward to the House, just to expose all the Dem skeletons in the closet. That's actually a brilliant idea. Somebody should tell Tucker to start pushing it to the likes of Gaetz. If nothing else, it'd be awesome to watch how quickly the Dems pirouette a 180 on their position to impeach... |
