I've never put my bike up for any length of time, but I'm going to Australia for two months and I don't want the ethanol in the gas to screw up anything. The Auto Zone clerk was pushing Sea Foam, so I bought some and I'll put a couple or four ounces in the tank tomorrow when I fill up. While I was at the store, I was thinking about trying Techron or maybe Gumout or even Lucas. Now, I'm wondering what everybody uses. So; for you folks who do put their bikes up and use fuel treatment; what do you like and why? |

Fuel injected? If so, I have never has issues with it. Ethanol in a carb is much more of an issue. A couple of months is no big deal. Disconnect the battery. When you get back, reconnect and start. If you have a carb, just turn the fuel off an run the gas out of the carb. You may need to charge the battery. |

Sea foam is the right stuff. |

I put SeaFoam in all my ICE powered vehicles. I use it instead of any other kind of fuel stabilizer. As far as those other ways to spend money of additives, the SeaFoam will clean in a milder manner. Do not put any harsh cleaners in it prior to letting it sit. I make sure I put SeaFoam in during winter in case the vehicle sits longer than I plan. I have had incredible good results with it. |

Seafoam or Lucas will do just fine. Got Battery Tender? Surely there's a place near you that sells 100% gas, otherwise those treatments are copacetic. |

Premium fuel has additives in it that will make it last. I've had cars in storage for years with premium fuel and they fired right up. Fuel injected though. Two months? No big deal FI or carb. |

Yeah, Seafoam, 1 oz per gallon. If you are topping off a 5 gal tank, put in 5 oz. Then take a 15-20 minute ride, to make sure treated fuel has made it all the way through the system. Then as others have said, turn off the fuel and run the carb dry. Battery tender. Might even take the battery out and put it on a shelf on a tender. Optional front and rear frame stands. Might even do to put chunks of carpet/whatever under the tires contact patch. If going for 2 mos, stop at Seafoam. Have a great time, Dave |

Your trip is short, I wouldn't even do anything. Disconnect the battery if you want to feel good. |

I always use Sta-Bil gas treatment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYkN91xy8J8 |

Just fill it all the way up. No air in the tank means no chance of condensation. Did that with my XBR, Z1000 and my XR450 when I went to prison. All three started right up and ran perfect when I got out a year later. |

I had poor results with Sta-Bil, but maybe it was because the bike sat for longer than I expected and the carbs got clogged. |

"I had poor results with Sta-Bil, but maybe it was because the bike sat for longer than I expected and the carbs got clogged." That's what happened to Epstein. |

I prefer non alcohol premium full tank. If that cannot happen half can of Seafoam. In the MC tank. I put premium non alcohol in all of my lawn equipment and my boat. |

Sta-Bil isn't the best solution but they do make a Blue version for marine use. That's the good stuff. But once again, two months? Don't worry about it. |

If you leave sta-bil in for 3+ years, it turns the alcohol to bubble tea foam. And that was with the new as of 4 years ago booze gas version. The new new stuff is supposed to out gas corrosion prevention fumes to keep the dry empty part of the gas tank from rusting. My advice? Use booze free premium gas at least for the last full up. ( locally that's about 90 octane r/m ) Better the last few or even all the time. Toss in whatever magic additives you like. Sta-bil in the latest version, Seafoam, etc. Shut off the fuel and let the bike run the carb dry at idle. It shouldn't overheat at idle when it leans out, and you should have your pet additives already in the tank. Don't let it sit more than a year & a half. Don't just start it up briefly in winter, let it warm up until the exhaust is hot enough to boil out condensation. Idle probably isn't warm enough, so don't bother. Otherwise you fill the exhaust with acidic water vapor that will condense & corrode. Use mouse repellent sachet bags from the farm/hardware store, tucked where when you forget them they won't catch fire, or tied with red yarn hanging real obvious tied to the throttle to remind you like aviation pitot tube covers. And if you really want to go overboard, get corrosion fighting paper used in gun safes and stick a twist in your muffler, hanging out a few inches. Then inflate a climate control bubble using Smithsonian institution preservation techniques in a climate and humidity controlled vault in a megaton nuke proof underground Bat Cave. Covered, 'cause, you know, bats. Me, I have a shed. |

Oh for crying out loud! Just leave with someone who will thrash it for the 2 months! |

I've had pretty bad luck with gas treatments in this era of ethanol. The only thing that would work with my ironhead was turn off gas and run it dry. With my injected Buells, I never bothered to do anything. They always just start up. Just make sure the battery is in good shape before attempting to start it the first time. |
