I've known about the fires for a while. I'm in almost daily communication with Melia and she's keeping me up to date. With the bans in effect, we won't be able to do any outdoor cooking, so no BBQ. Still; I'm looking forward to going. If I can't cook on the grill, then I'll just have to go over to Fernvale and get a supremely delicious steak sandwich for lunch as compensation.
I'm really looking forward to having a cup of fresh ground Kenya coffee out on the veranda in the early morning, while watching kangaroos grazing in the field beside the house.
Iím excited. Iím doing everything I can think of to make the trip go smoothly. My Passport is safely stashed in my carry-on bag. Most of my clothes are packed, as is the stuff Iím bringing for everyone there; cans of B&M beans, Skyline Chili, a whole bunch of little toys, a bigger bunch of candy, etc. Thereís a 23 Kilo (50 Lbs.) limit per bag, and my bag is pretty close to that limit. There isnít a whole lot left to do to get ready. I have to test my blood on Monday (OOH! I canít forget to pack my testing kit!) And I have my Physical on Tuesday morning. I also have to go by the Post Office and put a hold on my mail delivery. On Wednesday morning, Iíll wash my sheets and the dirty clothes that I wonít be bringing (that way, Iíll have a bed with clean sheets and clean clothes to wear waiting when I get back. I have to remember to turn the Water Heater to its ďVacationĒ setting and turn the thermostat for the furnace down to 50 degrees. My Internet will be on Hold which only costs me $5.00/ month. Iíll shut off the power to the modem and save a few cents on that, as well.
Davidís going to mail out my Christmas cards for me. I addressed and stamped them already, so all he has to do is bring them to the Post Office. Davidís also driving me to the Airport on Wednesday. I will be very careful to not let him get anywhere near my bag. Maybe I havenít gotten him back for that little ďGiftĒ he put in my suitcase when I went to Nairobi, but I havenít forgotten; and I sure as hell donít want a repeat of that situation. Come to think of it, Davidís gotten me on a few occasions that I havenít gotten him back for. Either I must be slipping, or heís that much better at it than I am. Probably both.
So for now, Iím just marking time. Iím trying to make sure I dot all my Ts and cross all my Is. Iím so wound up that I canít even enjoy a movie. After just a few minutes, I get antsy and lose concentration. Iím just trying to focus on the fact that in a few days, Iíll be in 95 degree temperatures and getting a lot of sun. Iíll get a Flat White coffee at the Cafť 33 in Gatton and just marvel at the fact that Iím back in Queensland.
