Hey all- I rarely do Faceplant/Facepalm BS, other than to look at something someone I know sends me that barely looks important- last night, somehow I got notice from the "facebook Buell community" that someone died, Jim Rainey. He passed 2 years ago this past August, as I study things. Somehow the FB system popped this up to me.

Ah! Well, as I just now fumbled through FB, looks like Tonya's heading to Deal's Gap next week to spread his ashes on October 31, which is Thursday. Looks like I'll be rolling the Dragon that day. Figured all here should know.

Yes, all here should know!!!

And all those that knew Jim Rainey (U4euh), that are able to, should join the adventure.

Unfortunately there's no way I can make it, even though I wish I could give Jim's ashes a proper sendoff.

You are very correct 1313.
Wish I could join in too, but can't.
Jim was a great guy.

We had a large time. Photos on FB I didn't know were there, even from way back at C3Central. Good times.

In this life, collect memories of those whose fires burned brightest. I'll be there for his ashes.

Wish I could be there. Unfortunately I’ll be in Dallas for a trade show.
Jim was a good guy.
For those who make it, enjoy as Jim would have.

Bump...

I'm watching the weather. Not knowing exactly what Tanya's planning, I'm gonna guess she'll head to the Calderwood Dam overlook. If she could make it over the Cherohala, wouldn't Jim want a swim at Bald River Falls too?

Brad, keep me posted. I may be able to be there. Need to get a rear tire for the S1W first.

I haven't been on here in forever, and this is what I see... I hadn't seen Tonya post anything about it going and spreading Jim's ashes.

I wonder if the rest of the group knows?

Sorry to say I won't be able to make it down there by then.

I just kind of caught it, Tim. FB is weird like that, as I rarely use/participate in it.

Hope you and the woman are well. We should ride again soon, but slower. Eric M. can set the pace.

We arent doing to bad! Havent made it down that way in awhile. Atleast not with the bike. We were down playing in the mountains in my twin turbo 911, after my sisters wedding in Nashville last october. that was a riot!

Well, dang- just checked the weather and they're calling for 60-70% chance of rain next Wednesday and Thursday. Twisty, wet roads+wet leaves+ pine needles= very sketchy riding. Friday should be sunny, 50 degrees high. Maybe she'd consider November 1? Don't know the significance of Halloween to her.

I got the followimg message from Tonya today:

"I've decided to postpone the mountain trip until probably summer. It will work out better for everyone this way and give us a chance to plan it.."

So, now that it has been postponed, I sure hope we can assemble a suitably large contingent to honor our friend Jim!

Excellent idea. I'd be happy to help with the itinerary. Example: A day ride beginning with lunch at Tellico Grains bakery, then the Cherohala, then a pit stop at the bottom of the Dragon, then a nice run to Calderwood Dam overlook. Repeat Deal's Gap as needed or as time allows, then head back toward Maryville to end the day.

Options abound. Fontana Dam, the Hellbender... now we've got time to plan. Heck, we nutcases do an April shindig and an October shindig, why not midsummer?
I could also get in touch with my old buddy Vince, he's been organizing a Buell/Dragon thing for several years now.

Why not ask her if it would be ok to do it on the Saturday of an up coming Buell event?

Three are generally three or more events that happen within a reasonable distance, where most of the folks who would like to attend will already be on their vacation time on their bikes even.

I'm sure it would be easier on those who would like to attend. So more Buellers could and would be there to send off a friend.
