I wouldn't worry Court, Its a MEME, not "facts", not "news", just comedy or propaganda. Good times |

Shoggin, you couldn't be more wrong about that... Simple interweb search yields a lot of results. Such as... this and many more |

I'm not the least bit worried. But . . . my instant observation is that most of what I read . . . right leaning and left leaning . . is pretty much total bullshit. Sometimes . . . and this case is one . . . the content piques my interest and I'd like to incorporate it into my writing or a discussion. But, before I do that I like to simply find out if it's fact or bullshit. Politicians, both Trump-side and Pelosi-side, would be wise to try a similar tact. There are a world of folks who believe a wall will slow illegal immigrants and that gun laws will slow mass shootings. Both delusional positions . . . largely, I think, held by folks who get their news from cartoons. Just my $0.02. |

Good of you to be cautious in what you use in your discussions Court. I've heard numerous times that Minneapolis is an area where they have a real problem with terrorist recruitment. No doubt about that in my mind. "Terrorist recruitment capital"? That's a pretty subjective term, as I don't believe there is such a thing. Good enough for a MEME on an obscure Buell website. Probably not good enough for a conservative view in a college class room discussion. FWIW, I don't post MEMEs that I know to be pure BS, with the exception of satire. Some are certain to exaggerate the truth a bit, but will have a solid foundation in facts. I believe this one to be in that category. Far closer to the truth than "comedy or propaganda". I just find it sad when reality is so messed up that something so close to the truth is dismissed as propaganda. It's a real shame and a big part of how things have gotten so messed up, IMO. |

I remember being taught to check and cite references, and research results, when writing papers and/or performing experiments (writing class / science class). Those days are LONG gone. Today, if it "feels right" to you, or if you "believe in what you're saying", then - in the famous words of Mr. Jack Handey - "that's...oh..kay". We're seeing that as a rule in today's media - not the exception - and it has infiltrated our classrooms as well, polluting future generations. Good on Court for asking - it must be an old-fart thing, because I do the same. I'm pretty good at ID'ing sarcasm or satire - I speak both fluently - but I do like to check things like the Omar meme for the same reasons as Court. Hate to try and start a discussion, and build a platform, on it...only to find out it's BS / conjecture. |

I believe a wall would slow illegal immigration. It would need to be manned by people with guns willing to kill those that tried to get over/under/around it, but it would slow the tide IMO. But it's always nice to know I'm delusional, it goes well with me being a baby murderer... |

I agree that it will help. Key word - HELP. It isn't a solution...but it won't hurt. And while I don't think we need to be willing to shoot on sight, I think it will greatly aid our agencies with stopping and apprehending violators (there will be far fewer of them), but more than that, it will be a HUGE deterrent to those wanting to cheat the system and sneak in. Will they find a workaround? Eventually. Boats, planes, whatever. Build a better mousetrap, and you end up with smarter mice...but for the time being it may stem some of the tide, and allow our system (and our legislation) to catch up a bit, and get a much-needed breather. |

One of my favorite Far Side panels, not often seen: A park setting, sidewalks and people about. In the center is a concrete column with a platform on top. On the platform are two slices of bread, made of concrete. Between the slices is a leg and foot. The Donner Party Memorial . . . . |

I spent a good chunk of my youth camping in Donner Pass. The wall needs to be built 1 mile inside our border. This way, when intruders are shot, they are standing completely on American soil by a wide, unmistakable margin. |

Two of the most ironic Farside calendar pages if you lived in the Bay area at the time were October 17 and 18 1989. G |

Saw a tractor trailer that someone had written in the dust on the back, "free 10mm sockets inside". I was tempted to follow him. |

In the novel Lucifer's Hammer, there's a great scene where a surfer off Santa Monica gets one last ride on a Comet strike giant wave. Good book throughout, but that passage stuck with me. |

Funny, except that my 83 year old mother lives in St Augustine, FL (just south of Jax, northeast corner of the state). And she's as stubborn as...well...as me. She's born and raised in Miami, and when I talked to her earlier this week she's already got the patio furniture in the garage, bought a couple cases of wine, and has a bunch of friends coming over. I've made sure she has power hurricane shutters on all the windows, and an upgraded/storm-rated garage door...all she has to do is push some buttons, everything seals up nice and tight. She's been through enough that she's already got one bathtub full of water and will probably fill a second as things get closer... I pick my battles. She's in good shape, dad made sure to raise the lot 4' when they built the house, and it's fortified like Fort Knox...and the photos and videos are always funny as hell. Drunk geriatrics stumbling around while all hell breaks loose outside, plinking on the out-of-tune 1920s Steinway and singing songs from church chorus...she's got a good life. But I still worry about her with this stuff. |
