Mike has been making upgrades to the hotel, replacing the window unit heat/air with mini-split systems, which will be much quieter and more efficient. Not sure how far along this process is, but it will be a big improvement. He had already finished two rooms last year. The cool little pizza/brewery in Spruce Pine, Dry County Brewing, which was down to Saturday’s only last year, burned down earlier this year. They will be missed. The Tin Shed, an awesome burger joint I discovered a couple of years ago, located on a scenic back road near Spruce Pine, apparently closed permanently over the winter. Home Town Brewing, located in nearby Burnsville, is moving to a larger location which will have a full menu restaurant (hopefully ready by BITA 10). Mica Town Brewing, just down the mountain in Marion, is still going strong. 1.5 weeks to go...
