"Tagging" your friends in photos gives feedback to the facial recognition software, and labels the photo with their names to make your photo album more complete and presumably more enjoyable. The software will ask you if you want to tag someone in a picture that the A.I. recognizes to refine it's algorithm and as a service to you. ( so when you look at or share a photo, you get the names. Useful if you post or send a group photo with a comment like "me & aunt Becky". The person you send it to can see who aunt Becky is in the group. ) Plus, of course, it puts Becky in the giant database at Facebook so anyone who pays them can use it to identify people in surveillance photos. It's how police departments can use street cameras to Identify passersby. Or commercial companies target advertising. See the movie Minority Report. We don't have the holographic ads in common use yet, and they don't need retina prints to ID you, but the result is similar. Walk through the RV sale display at the mall, & get RV ads on all your devices. This is slightly less scary? than your phone feeding you ads based on words it hears from your pocket. Which just happened to me. The joke is fairly obvious if you know about tagging. | ||

The fact your phone & tablet is listening to you means you can prank someone just by repeating words in their presence. I haven't figured out the required number of repetitions yet. But last Wed. a somewhat hoplophobic buddy was over, and I said to his sleeping phone "Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Remington" 5 times quickly, and I'll check this week if his ad content changed. I wonder what "liberte egalite fraternite" gets me? | ||

Here kitty kitty kitty.... I already have 3 of those living in my backyard. Not too many squirrels, small cats or GAC's running around lately. I must say that the body's animal instincts take over when you spot one of those amazing felines. Every hair on the back of my neck was at full attention and the fight or flight trigger had to be controlled before I became prey. All good though. He was well fed thanks to a recent deer kill. | ||

If you've ever hung out with EMTs on an overnight shift you hear weird stories. The weirder, the more likely true, if embellished. Ambulance crew called to a heart attack case. San Francisco. Arrests while they are tending to him, ( pre- portable defibrillator days ) load him on a stretcher, steep stairs, really fat patient, drop stretcher, bang head on concrete step, brings him back to life. That from my father, who hates motorcycles and has San Francisco gory detail stories from his ambulance days. For me, the glove detail inclined me to buy the lizard story. I won't repeat worse ones I've heard involving insects. The stuff I've seen being first response at MVA is nothing compared to the stuff the pros see. I have had the "You hit the hornet on your knee with a frying pan?" cases. | ||
