Start matching the claimed facts of those two articles and solar power stations are not only highly impractical but they are extremely dangerous.

Extremely practical, and, yes,potentially dangerous.

We should be building them. High ground.

Jerry Pournelle pointed out that for the price of one Gulf War, we could be built power sats. Free ourselves from coal etc. for power generation, and free ourselves from supporting murderous Islamist regimes.

Even if the promise of solar isn't completely realized, the infrastructure to get men, material, & robots into orbit is half way to Asteroid mining and planting some eggs in a different basket, even if only in Lunar tunnels.

And the High Ground cannot be under stated.

If you don't have air superiority, you can't win. ( asymmetric warfare too. )

And the Heinlein Maneuver is a greater threat than ever.

Last century? No, I'm 45 years ahead!

Are the folk who say orbital solar is impossible the same who would refuse to allow safe, modern, nuclear? ( most commercial nuclear power plants are using designs older than me. )

The same that insist cow farts are a greater danger to human freedom than living in a totalitarian theocracy?

The folk that insist math is racist? That 2+2=4 is a tool of the patriarchy to keep us down, man?

That use wall sockets to charge their lifelines to social media control, without knowing where the invisible demons come from?

It would appear the "...sooo last century." statement has passed right over your head, pun intended.

"A geosynchronous orbit is a high Earth orbit that allows satellites to match Earth's rotation. Located at 22,236 miles (35,786 kilometers) above Earth's equator, this position is a valuable spot for monitoring weather, communications and surveillance.
According to Satellite Signals, there are 402 satellites in geosynchronous orbit. At geosynchronous orbit, the “ring” around Earth can accommodate a number of satellites — 1,800 altogether, according to one analysis by Lawrence Roberts, published in the Berkeley Technology Law Review."
https://www.space.com/29222-geosynchronous-orbit.h tml

1. In order to direct a solar powered laser or microwave beam to a receiving station on earth geosynch orbit is important.
2. Directing such a beam to such a target from over 22,000 miles away is no mean feat.
3. In order to efficiently capture solar energy solar panels would have to be continuously reoriented making aiming the power beam several orders of magnitude more difficult.
4. In order to be viable the "power beam" would have to be continuous. The danger to satellites, aircraft, humans or anything else in the path of this beam should be obvious.
5. As a weapon a short burst from a more stable platform is difficult but much easier to direct and would not require a geosynch orbit.

I could go on but hopefully you get the idea.

Over my head? I ducked.

Of course, it depends on how you maintain solar orientation in geosynchronous orbit, where tidal forces, though far less than near Earth, are still substantial on structures over a mile long. The ISS uses a gyro, with periodic use of gas jets ( hydrazine? ) to ease the spin, as it tumbles in low drag mode once per orbit.

Here's one way.

I see, a vaguely related wordy attempt to sound knowledgeable along with nonsensical comical responses as a diversion from logic.

No surprise there.

You miss by one planet......

Rebutal.

1. Um, huh? I don't get the point. Probably autocorrect ruined that sentence.

2. I agree. But the sending, and receiving antennas are very large, that helps, and the transmitter will probably be a phased array system. Electronically steered, no moving parts.

3. Again I agree. Hence the humor on cheap rotation systems. Obviously a mile long collector/antenna isn't going to maintain rotation with hard docks. Unless the reactionless drive works, I'm assuming ion drives for rotation control, which means fuel, and periodic resupply. Aiming the beams from a rotating platform is a non trivial feat. How do they do it on the much faster rotating ISS?

4. That part is speculative. Since the frequency proposed doesn't act like a microwave oven, and the power density is planned to be harmless to cows grazing under the rectanna, I'd be more worried about Bluetooth phone ear buds. Good point on aircraft, though. At 36,000 feet poorly shielded electronics might pick up stray voltages. I assume there will be no fly areas, just like in Florida where the radar blimp cables rise miles through airspace.

5. Hence the Real Genius clip.

Weaponizing solar sat output is a concern. That's why I'd prefer such potential power not be controlled by the Red Chinese, ( or other Leftists ) who have proven since WW2 that mass murder is not just accepted, but standard operating procedure.

A huge number of aimable mirrors would, it seems to me, be a greater danger, and not require geosynchronous orbit. I can even see the sales pitch. "Solar power at night, reducing our dependence on backup fossil fuel plants" & "vaporize orbital debris to make space safer", with the highly classified "set fire to our enemies as they lead the crowd in a Death to America chant, and the crowd, too. We'll blame it on divine retribution. No boots on the ground, total deniability!" ( except that last part is bogus. If you are the only country with a Death ray, you are going to be blamed for all death ray like events. See West coast fire conspiracy theories ! And afaik, we don't have a Death ray..... But you might know different. ; ) )

I'm not going to restate all points but I will go this far:

If I used the full term geosynchronous orbit in point 1 would you be less confused?
To explain further, in order for a satellite to maintain continuous visibility of a single point on earth it must be in a geosynchronous orbit. At this point it is believed that there are only about 1,800 geosynchronous orbit slots available of which more than 400 are currently occupied. This is a very narrow area, therefore the satellites in it are highly vulnerable.

..... But you might know different.
Replace might know with do know and you might just be right.

Back to the Moon!!!!

Of many things that tells a sane person he lives in insane times is the number of people that refuse to believe man landed on the moon. An event witnessed by more people than had ever witnessed any event in the history of mankind.

And the number of people who think they favor a religion that murdered more people than any other cause in the history of mankind, just in the last hundred years.

A Venn diagram of those 2 groups might be revealing.

Spacex stuck another barge landing last night. Third or fourth use of the same booster.

Put telcom and DOD satellites up, and sent a lander to the moon.

Martian surface temperatures track with the unfrauded unaltered Earth temperatures, almost as if the Sun's output determined how warm it is. ( it does )

We are in apparently a cooling trend, or beginning one, according to solar scientists.

One simple way to find out. Invest in stocks for heat creating stuff. Natural gas, heat pumps, etc. See if you get richer.

I propose a https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_updraft_towe r using a dome/cap on the Capitol to make renewable power. If successful, CNN headquarters is next, followed by MSNBC, etc.

Further, all 2020 campaign stops must be at a SUT to catch the hot air. ( not realistic, or legal, but "at this point what difference does it make? " )

Who the drones target depends on the makers.

I'm sure we've all seen Sandy the bartender try to use a dull kitchen knife. The kind the Mayor of London would arrest her for.

More importantly is her reluctance to bring new life into a doomed world, and there, I have to agree with her.

Please don't reproduce, Sandy.

I don't know if your mental problems are genetic, in which case you absolutely should go and get sterilized at your local Planned Parenthood Genocide center, ( they will be happy to prevent more non-white babies, as their founder intended ) or if you were raised this way, in which case we certainly don't want you to pass on this madness to more young, or if you are a fake put up by George Soros, in which case I fully support both of you getting a late term abortion.

In any case, you've convinced me that we have less than 12 years to deal with the problems of Socialism and Climate Fraud.

Thank you for opening my eyes.

Btw, if you cut a flat on one side of a squash or other hard skinned item, before trying to cut it up, you'll have better luck. Also the Wine industry in NY thanks you for your subtle advertising as you promote alcoholism.
