One of the guys on my ship did me a real solid, so I told him I'd clean the hull of his sailboat.
45 minutes in La Jolla and I was done and freezing. Farmer johns no legs.

Two things.
Schnapps definitely warms you up. higher octane is better, partial to Goldschlager
Kelp forests are scary.

Learned to dive in La Jolla. Can’t imagine spending that much time in the water in just a fj top. And kelp forests are awesome. : )

Me? It was 1991 and I, being on active duty, was too broke to eat in restaurants. Especially in that part of town.

I dove in LaJolla as well. Love the kelp forests. Keep a knife at hand though. Got my dive certificate in Subic Bay. With the floaters...

Still free dive in northern california for Abalone. Not often since I really don't like the cold water. Last time I rented a suit and halfway out to our "spot", the crotch in my suit blew out. Took days for my brass nuggets to emerge again...

Hoot, ice age? Technically in the brief happy times between. But if this continues for a few thousand years.......

Reality proves my point to Gregtonn. Cold like this that doesn't stop will eventually erase civilization. And has, over & over.

An archeologist friend says she'd love to have multispectral imagery of Siberia to look for lost civilization.

We discussed pre-ice-age remnants, or lack thereof. She says you need to look to temperate to tropical locations that didn't get scraped clean by glaciers, and account for continental drift and vertical plate movement.

Her bets are Siberia & that lake in Antarctica, under the ooze. The lake is crazy inaccessible for thorough investigation. But Siberia could have entire cities under a shallow layer of organic debris.

The most interesting places are classified by Russia, unfortunately, as they have military storage ( tanks and artillery ) And nuclear weapons and hideout bunkers all over the place, and don't want them known.

There's also the Antarctic mountains, the oldest volcanic ones, but I'll leave them to Lovecraftian fantasy.

She's not wrong in this one.

I assume she blames Trump for the last 50 years of Democrat love affair with sucking up to the Great Genocidal Communist Dictatorships. Certainly not socialists like Bernie or kleptocrats like Hillary. But that's her bias.

It's how I'd wipe out the U.S. If I were an idiot super villain or Dictator that thought it best to destroy more than half the wealth on the planet, instead of exploiting it. I'm not that dumb. The Mullahs might be. I'm not that crazy. Xi might be.

Yes, ice age. We are currently in one of several interglacials within the Quaternary Ice Age, which began ~2.6 million years ago and continues to the present day. The ice will come again, and again, and again, until the ice age ends, and then it will get really warm. Al Gore will be so stoked. Until the next ice age.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary

An age of repeated glaciation.

I suppose our opinion difference is based on the term "age".

Glaciation took place repeatedly during the Quaternary Ice Age – a term coined by Schimper in 1839 that began with the start of the Quaternary about 2.58 Mya and continues to the present day.

But clearly, we are in an interglacial period. Quite near the end of the warm times, with the Cold ahead in short order.

The term Quanternary refers to the Age of Man, a bit egotistical, if understandable conceit.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_age

I note that the propaganda is strong here, with In the terminology of glaciology, ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in both northern and southern hemispheres.[3] By this definition, we are in an interglacial period—the Holocene. The amount of heat trapping gases emitted into Earth's Oceans and atmosphere will prevent the next ice age, which otherwise would begin in around 50,000 years, and likely more glacial cycles

The "heat trapping gases...." Crap is rampant speculation at best and social engineering by repeated lies, at least. ( slavery strategy, at worst )

I don't see the need to argue about differing definitions of the word "Age". That's going to be different if we talk geology or mass extinction or technological advancements.

My point is we are in a repeated cycle.

Our position in that cycle, as seen by dozens of charts of the "ice ages" posted above, is near the end of a middling, not record cold or hot, warm period, about to ( in 1-12,000 years????? ) slide into another cold times.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary_glaciat ion

The above reference supports your point. And shows the Vostok ice core charts showing mine. ; )

The entire Quaternary Period, starting 2.58 Ma, is referred to as an ice age because at least one permanent large ice sheet—the Antarctic ice sheet—has existed continuously. There is uncertainty over how much of Greenland was covered by ice during each interglacial.

Currently, Earth is in an interglacial period, which marked the beginning of the Holocene epoch. The current interglacial began between 15,000 and 10,000 years ago; this caused the ice sheets from the last glacial period to begin to disappear. Remnants of these last glaciers, now occupying about 10% of the world's land surface, still exist in Greenland, Antarctica and some mountainous regions.

During the glacial periods, the present (i.e. interglacial) hydrologic system was completely interrupted throughout large areas of the world and was considerably modified in others. Due to the volume of ice on land, sea level was about 120 meters lower than present.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary_extinct ion_event

This is a case where I can agree you are right, and defend my heresy at the same time.

Thus, it's just a matter of terminology, and by one standard, you are correct! Win!

I do have to wonder.... When the Quaternary Ice Age will end?

The Climate Con folk say 12 years! Then life as we know it will end. ( Awesome!!!! ) Their End Of The World Is obviously the beginning of the good times never seen by man! Yes, rising seas will displace millions of peasants from low lying lands like the Ganges delta and the lower floors of the Manhattan Prison. ; )

And I note that the rich mega corps don't believe a word of their own propaganda at the leadership level. CNN and Al Gore both bought waterfront property they themselves predicted to be under water.... By now actually.

That's many million$ in proof they know they lie, and don't care.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/01/why -green-energy-is-futile-in-one-lesson.php

Not mentioned. For every cubic inch of natural gas powering the electric grid, that's a cubic inch that can't heat a home.

All over the world, the War On Coal continues. Replacing coal with natural gas may have some ecological benefit, reducing strip mining, but the excuse is to save the planet from Al Gore! ( or heretics, or capitalism, it doesn't matter, they're lying. ) Thus the War on Coal is the War on home owners & everyone else.

But mostly people that count on natural gas to heat their homes.... And it's not there, even though U.S. Production is at an all time high.

This isn't just easily predictable, I predicted it,so it has to be as obvious as the sunrise on a spinning planet.

https://www.breitbart.com/environment/2019/02/01/d elingpole-the-frozen-hell-outside-your-window-is-w hat-global-warming-looks-like/

The report on snow in Miami brings back memories!

My College skydiving team camped out at the Deland Airport for the Collegiate Nationals.

Woke covered in frost. Bless space blanket inside sleeping bag. Serious cold, and the locals not so jokingly blamed us New Yawkers for bringing the cold with us.

Breakfast at the local Ihop gave us the weather reports, and they were interviewing local Seminole tribal leaders, who told us that they checked tribal records, & never saw this stuff before in Miami! Yeah, then blamed us.

That was the Ice Age Panic year. The beginning & pattern establishing Climate Con blitz.

World freezing us all to frosty doom? End fossil fuels, tax energy, stockpile food, give up your rights to a New Green Regime.

The only difference now is they abandoned the ONLY part of the agenda that wasn't "create a dictatorship", & could possibly do anyone any good. The establishment of food stocks to prevent famines as climate ruined crops.

Obviously, actual solutions were Not desired, and you could measure corruption in tons, with actual physical items you could count!

Much better to assign an arbitrary number to tax invisible gases, and rule with an iron fist, for the Children!, than to prevent famines.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/record-cold-forces-re think-on-global-warming/

1977. The Earth is doomed. We need to establish a global government, stockpile food, end fossil fuel use, tax America & Europe.

2019. The Earth is doomed. We need to establish a global government, end fossil fuel use, tax America & Europe.

By changing our letterhead, and eliminating the only demand that doesn't give us unlimited power, we can steal all the money from the working class.

we abandoned the food idea, because emergency food supplies that are needed and not there, because we stole them, will get us lynched. Far better not to have any physical evidence or concrete promises we will never keep.

The true story of Climate Change.

,,......

My prediction is that the "Warming Con" will continue to push shutting down fossil fuel power plants until the winter death toll in the U.S. is in the thousands every winter.

Then they'll change their letterhead again, and continue as before.... Until it's millions every winter.

Killing lots of innocent people is a Feature, not a bug. How else to cleanse Gaia of the Peasant classes?

And now for something completely different...

Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence

I've believed for a long time that there should be more studies done on Marijuana use before jumping headfirst into complete legalization of it. Too often, things just don't work that way.
