They don't care. They can afford it, they have walls and gates around their homes, they have armed security personnel...and after all - poor and weak peasants can't put up any serious resistance. The party isn't the problem - both Dems and GOP folk are crooked. The problem is unlimited terms. These people need to get OUT; there needs to be regular changing of the guard. | ||

Dang RD, you seriously like that load of liberal misdirection and propaganda? Please tell me that you see through the false logic and lies that it relies upon. America is the greatest country in the world because our federal government is explicitly constituted to protect the unalienable rights of individual Americans, because the nation was founded on the idea that it is the individuals, the people, not government that makes a country great. That liberal actor (playing a role in a leftist film, yes?) thinks that authoritarian government is what makes a country great, which is the same thinking of Marx, Engels, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Chavez, and all of history's authoritarian leftists. How ironic when you step back and see that most of the blame for all the less than stellar, less than word-leading statistics he notes may be laid at the feet of the very garbage leftist policies that such anti-American leftists support. The ruination of so many by authoritarianism and the welfare state mindset, slavery and servitude enshrined in govt policy, failed school after failed school, crime and poverty run rampant, people demoralized and dehumanized. You could find a more effective way to subvert a people than what the leftists have done in our poor inner city neighborhoods. Besides that... 1) If not America, then what nation is the greatest in the world today? Finland? China? 2) Military might counts against greatness? LOL! 3) Can anyone name another major country that has freedom of speech and the press like we do? There are none. They all have laws against speech they don't like, you know, preaching the gospel in public, or critisizing Islamism, expressing support for traditional understanding of marriage, or opposition to the killing of unborn babies, or most often just being critical of the nation's authoritarian leaders. 4) The individual right to keep and bear arms like we do? 5) We used to lead? Freaking China's primary source of new technology is achieved through theft from our great free enterprise market. 6) What nation innovates more? Where are the Apple Inc's, Microsofts, Googles, Netflixes? Where are the first trials for promising new medical technology and treatments usually happening? 7) What major nation provides a higher standard of living for the average household? Does it do so while relying upon America for its defense against the tyrants and Marxist mob-bosses of the world? Sure, we have plenty to work on, but there is no other nation anywhere in the world or world history that can even come close to America today. The only way anyone could think so would be to mistake what makes a nation great, belittling it down to a Leftist Social Justice score. "Freedom and freedom" was the exact right answer. | ||

America is still the greatest, but only by a small margin. We may remain the greatest, but that doesn't meant that we are where we used to be. Are you familiar with the delta scale? When you're a service member, deployed, and it's 95% male, and 5% female, chicks who were a 2 stateside become a 10 on the "deployed"("delta") scale. Just because you're pretty compared to the contenders doesn't mean that you're the best thing ever. You're just the best thing at the moment. And, often, that's not saying much. I think what we're seeing today is a scientific description called "entropy". No good kingdom has ever lasted. You have those rare spikes of positive energy where new, wonderful things are created. Great conversation. Thanks for putting my mind at ease Ourdee.  One of my favorite points to note when someone is referring to America as a "democracy" is that no form of the word is to be found anywhere in the Constitution, the document that defines our federal government, while it explicitly and literally "guarantee(s) a republican form of government." Democracy is mob rule, two parasites and a host voting on how to live. What confounds me is the number of GOP congress-people who carry water for the Democrats, referring to America as a democracy. Just yesterday, freshman Utah senator Romney referred to America as a "democratic republic." I've lost tremendous respect for that man. He and Kasich seem motivated most by ego. I digress. Saw a clip of senator Graham on CNN that gave some hope. I've always liked him, though often disagreed with him. He did a great job of countering the CNN spin. The only whiff of democracy on the federal level is the election of congress, and originally the senatators were elected by state legislatures as representatives of the states. It's a shame that changed. A huge win for the "Progressives." | ||

All for a revival! I will point out that Odin promised to free mankind of Ice Giants. Seen any Ice Giants lately?  Seriously, the contrast is stark. I argued here for marriage of same sex couples. The responses included getting government out of marriage, to have free choice, and it was pointed out that government control of marriage was a racist ploy of the Klan Party to stop the dilution of their racial purity. The Klan Party solution, otoh, is more government control of marriage. And control of private business, demanding that photographers and bakers etc. give their artistic talents to others, on demand, no matter what they think of the customer's requests. And will destroy their business unless obeyed. Yet, oddly, I don't recall reading about a Muslim run deli being sued to make a BLT? You can't tell me I'm the only person who thought of that as a means to expose the hypocrisy. Where is the outcry about refusal to bake a Passover cake? Someone has to have been a big enough jerk to pull that stunt. The Klan sure has. Either middle leaning folk are too polite, ( generally, yes, but ALL of them? ) or that isn't allowed on the news. Ever. Curious. Also contrast the Wiccan creed of "if it do no harm do as you will" about as libertarian as it gets, vs. The highly publicized "witches gather to curse Trump" headlines. No one on MSNBC thought to mention that is a serious violation of the faith's principles, as you reap three fold the intent of your actions.
