Monkey hasn't any idea what it is and says it can't be registered???
Lists it as a "2009 X1" and also states that the year is 2007.

You can see the engine is post-2008 in the pictures.
So stolen bike? Junkyard dog?

Black frame, black forks, looks like an '09 Lightning Low to me. Looking at the swingarm, might be a Long. Hard to tell. Have a dealer run the VIN for you - that will at least give you the first purchaser's info (individual/demo/promo bike/Company Owned Vehicle/etc). Could be something simple like "estate sale/couldn't find the title".

I'd be interested in the old BMW 2002 in the background!!

It's not as odd as some of the CL posts that Ourdee has shared with me recently...

Seriously, it's an '09 Lightning Long. Look at the frame pucks - large frame.

If it isn't hot, it's one hell of a deal!

Indianapolis can be an odd place.

The bike is in Massachusetts. Close to both Nate and Damnut.

I wonder why it can't be registered?

I know. That line "Can't be registered" is what raised the old hackles.

Stolen or declared as being destroyed in an insurance fraud fire.

Set of keys probably look a lot like an old screwdriver.

May have been a flood bike. May be one someone tried to license in a California non-legal way and got it stuck in bureaucratic purgatory. Parts may have been assembled on a no vin frame. I'd seguro have the law involved in running the vin.

Crusty, I came across some Craigslist stuff in Indianapolis that was so weird the only person I could send it to was 1313. I couldn't even post a picture of it on BadWeb.

It may have been sold under the old "Race-Use-Only" agreement - which stated a bike provided for race use, could never be titled or licensed for street use. No MSO was provided with Race-Use bikes, making titling nearly impossible. From what I last heard, the program ended about a year ago.
