I had the gout once due to a perfect storm of lots of oysters, fine seafood, a large thick steak, some Scotch, then when pain manifested I was taking aspirin, had some more Scotch, some beers (I liked beers. I still like beers.) oh and not enough hydration. Seafood, red meat, dehydration, any beer/booze from grain, and aspirin all elevate uric acid in the blood.

I'd just finished aerating the lawn and figured I'd wacked my toe on a tree root or something. I'm actually fairly pain tolerant.

So I took some aspirin and had a drink. Still sore, went on vacation with Michele for two weeks on the coast.... lots of seafood, beer, steak, sausage, aspirin and scotch...

It peaked after we got home. Before that it was just a nuisance.

Worst pain I've ever experienced. I darn near blacked out, and I was just lying there in my recliner!

Lesson learned! Do NOT frock around with gout! It will humble you severely.

Eat cherries and stay hydrated. Pitted frozen cherries semi-thawed via microwave are an awesome evening snack. Haven't had another bout.

I blame Road Thing for getting me hooked on the Scotch. Stuff costs a fortune now.

Whenever I happen to notice the bottle of 21 yo Glen Fiddich in the very back of our liquor shelf, it's like a Mexican standoff. It's been there for six years now, unopened. LOL.

I have never tracked my food consumption in relation to gout attacks. I tracked it in regards to migraines. Something I would urge Crusty to do. It helped me find triggers and clues to when one is coming. I now get enough warning to head off most migraines. I have a controversial antidote that works for me even though it makes my doctor shake his head. He knows that what I do stops the pain and he will not be able to with a clear conscience stop me from doing it. It involves exceeding the dosages recommended on 4 over the counter meds. I wonder if it would work for others or just me. I found it by documenting everything for months. Even while having the migraines. An interesting thing I discovered was that during a migraine the part of my brain that processes humor and laughing from reading a joke does not work. I mean that the funniest material makes absolutely no sense during a migraine. I read it and note that it is stupid. When however I read the same material the next day, I can not stop laughing. I have aural effects that I could never remember till I started logging during migraines. The meds. eliminate the pain and aural effects but not the wiped out feeling afterwords. I have had the migraine return an hour later once after self medicating. On that occasion a dosage of the meds. at 50% of what I took an hour earlier stopped the migraine. When I had worked the meds. needed down to just these 4 I quit trying to eliminate any more meds. I do not want to feel the pain if I get rid of one that is crucial to getting results. MSG guarantees a migraine for me. So, chinese cooking is only consumed when I have my antidote with me. When I first found a concoction that eliminated the migraines I wasn't always good at identifying the onset and would sometimes spend some time sitting on the floor waiting for the pills to kick in. So, I carried the pills in a ziploc bag that had MIGRAINE wrote on it in heavy marker. I would just hold the word up to anyone that came near me. Everyone I worked with would leave me alone till it passed.

What has worked for me, for gout, is the same thing that worked to de-acidify my dog's urine to keep it from burning up the lawn-- a little baking soda in my (or his) drinking water.
If I start feeling a little pain in my left big toe, I mix a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass (about 20 oz.) of water, and drink it over the next hour or two.
Worked for me, just this morning.

Hey, I have no doubt that when you are suffering with gout, few other things matter at that time. At least that's how kidney stones used to be for me. Haven't had one for several years now, thanks to some dietary supplements. Stay healthy so you can pay attention.

Aside from being superficially pagan heathen in need of eternal salvation like some of my dear friends here; Bill Whittle rocks.

It's interesting to me that there are many who are genuinely convicted by their inherent divine image, genuinely gracious and caring people, but who rightly disdain the massive corruption in so much of organized religion, the vile rapists, the hucksters claiming a divine mantle, and I can HUGELY relate. In fact I'm closer to them than I am many "Christians" I meet. I just pray they may come to fully know Christ.

RD, I've never experienced a migraine, but MSG gives me a headache.

Just think of it as gout for your brain that can make you throw up (and purging sometimes helps).

I like listening to Bill.

The metaphor for today is plain.

Antifa are orcs. Same methodology and ideology as the thugs of the Socialist Worker's Party. They try and steal the imagined valor of the Communist Party thugs of the 1930s but the belief system is nearly identical. Just killing off the competition.

In the 1930s the distinction was between the International Communists, the one world government desire so beloved of hyphen Cortez and Barack Obama, Soros, Macron, etc. Vs. The Nationalist model, pushed by the German political philosophers, which had the same end goal, a unified global government, but with different leaders in charge. Putin is the current manifestation, a Nationalist leader dedicated to rule by His cronies, not his rivals in Brussels.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_nationalism

The racism & aggression of the German Nationalist movement is what Macron and idiot American media are trying to shame Trump with & the Eastern European countries that have been there done that and aren't going to play that game again, and the Hell with Brussels.

When the difference between factions of socialism and communism is the State has control of the means of production, vs. The People have control..... It's just lying about differences that don't exist. Branding.

Coke & Pepsi are far more different than socialism and communism.

Saw the "klantifa" term today and I like it.

"communism" NOT capitalized, is a great alliance of small producers, typically farmers, to prosper.
Doesn't work for shit on industry. That's where capitalism works.

I don't think I "think" much differently than when I was younger, but I find myself in a MUCH different political environment..

Constitutional libertarian but last vote was a straight Republican ticket.
I abstained votes for posts that didn't list a party.

Weird world today.........

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/12/is_gl obalism_the_new_feudalism.html

What the farmers are doing isn't communism. It's a guild. A Union. Other things, perhaps, but not communism. Enlightened Capitalism.

The idea goes back centuries before Marx & his drinking buddies stole a bunch of ideas and ground off the serial numbers to create a new religion.

Venice, London, all through the late feudal era, the new middle class of merchants and artisans banded together for protection and allocation of resources. Consider, every stick of wood to reach Venice came by boat. For the cabinet makers and builders they needed to negotiate prices and shipping in volume to stay in business.

There's a valley in Italy where all the gun makers operate, Beretta at one end, another, much smaller family business at the other. There are communal aspects, but it's not a government program, it's how they've done things since the 1500s.

I approve of religious freedom and support their right to proselytize.

I think that "bringing Satan to the Illinois Capitol" is already a done deal. Many deals.

And picking on a tv show for copy right infringement is bogus. The Goat thing is far older than the Church, and I think that I'd have taken it to court, if only to prevent other groups from applying pressure, up theirs.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/12/r epublicans_best_argument_in_the_health_care_debate .html

Three bills, passed as one or separate, would lower health insurance costs for consumers.

No preexisting conditions. ( Obama care used mandatory insurance payments as the carrot to pay for this. That got ruled unconstitutional, to demand purchase of a product. How's that working out? ) should be easy, it's already the law.

No more State monopolies. Why can't I, living in NY, buy cheaper, better, insurance from a company in Maryland or California? Bribes, baby! Bribes! Really big bribes. Bigger than that.

Make the system transparent. You can't shop for a product if you don't know the cost.

I'd also really like Trump to end the blatantly illegal payments to Congress to pay for staff health insurance. Obama just stole the tax money from another program, screwing citizens, so that staff, paid much more than actual people, didn't have to. Congress critters claimed they couldn't attract staff with such unrealistic expenses. Because a Republican inserted a poison pill, requiring Congressional staff to buy Obama care like a citizen, before the Democrats passed it without reading it or a single Republican vote.

Then Barry said, "laws don't matter to me" and stole millions.

If you ain't one of the elite D.C. Insiders, you have to obey. And pay.

They wonder why we hate them.

The sad thing there is that displaying a Satanic sculpture for the Christmas holiday is nothing but hate speech. They are not celebrating the birth of Christ. They do not have their own holiday that they are celebrating. It's nothing but hatred. I know that hate speech can be prosecuted in other venues. How is that hate speech is protected in this venue?

This appears to be a nontraditional satansim where the image of Bamophet is copyrighted to protect it against others portraying him as representing or standing for evil and hatred.

I would seem that anyone who claimed to be a satanist could say whatever they felt satanism was about. If you used the Bamophet image though along with something they felt was evil, they might mail you a snippy cease and desist letter.

Because it seems there is no explicit hatred in the display or in the language of the website by those who sponsored it.

This is the problem when you decide you want to have control over hate speech. First it must be defined. You can't use the "you'll know it when you see it" method. As soon as it's defined, people will skirt around the edges of that definition. Taking imagery from the bible and using it in this way is clearly a negative statement about Christianity. As far as I know, it has no historic significance as imagery of Satanism. Feel free to show me otherwise, but a quick interweb search shows nothing like it. If I were to submit a statue of Mohammad with his naked child bride in one arm and the severed head of an infidel in the other as an image of any religion, do you think it would be claimed to be hate speech? Same sort of stuff here.

For the record, I'm not a fan of claiming hate speech, but if you are going to try to control it, then you have to deal with this crap.

I have a friend that is a Satanist. I would have to say that he is less judgemental, more friendly and far more likely to offer a loving smile or helping hand to anyone, as compared to my "Christian" friends. I don't think I have ever heard anything negative or hateful come out of his mouth.

If he didn't tell you he was a Satanist, you would never know unless you were his friend.

20 years in prison is insane. Yeah, I have a double standard. There is a difference between dirty old men seducing little girls and mature women offering to introduce young men to adulthood.
