So my friend is looking to buy a bike. He almost did today, until I told him that at least a little research is required. He's an impulse buying idiot, on a good day. The local dealer has (all 2018 models) a WR 250,CRF250L and a KLX 250.. Do any of you have any experience with any of these? I am way behind on my dirt bike knowledge but told him to go for the WR. The CRF is the cheapest with the KLX an additional $300 and the WR $800 more than the KLX ($1100 more than the CRF). I told him that the Honda has non adjustable suspension so he should not buy it. The WR seems to be a much nicer bike for the additional cost. Any opinions welcome, first hand knowledge even better, Thanks (Message edited by Skinstains on November 23, 2018) |

If he's never had a bike, go with the Honda if for no other reason than it's the cheapest. I had the KLX and with the right tires and gearing it's a good bike. Not a lot of HP. Stock gearing and tires were not ideal for serious off-road. I wanted the Yamaha but it was/is more expensive and the upgraded parts may be a waste of money for a rookie. Lots of info over on the advrider.com site. |

Thanks. He grew up in the dirt. I didn't want to go down the adv rabbit hole if I didn't have to. |
