There was a day in the desert in the late 70s early 80s that my unit got asked to go to town. We drew our service M-16s from the armory and stood guard mount outside. It was a little warm. The lieutenant marched us around for a few minutes. We were told that the bands in the parade would play a different cadence than what we marched to. To keep our own beat we smacked the butts of our rifles as we marched. The Lt. asked us to quietly say heel each time our left feet hit the ground. Sick as we were back then, we all said kill instead. Then a blue bus showed up and we piled in. We left Area II, next stop Las Vegas. After taking first place marching in the Helldorado Days parade in Las Vegas that day, we were guests for one of Roy's shows down town that evening. Most talented gentleman! What a show! On the way in I dropped a silver dollar in a slot machine as I went by it. Hit for $20. I handed the $20 to the person seating us and my group got seated at the center table up front.

Roy and Buck Owens were the best part of "Hee Haw" in the 70s.

RIP, Mr. Clark

I grew up in Nashville, as a kid watched "Hee Haw" all the time. Ray and Buck were the greatest. Watching a player like Roy Clark do his thing is simply magic.

Jam on, Roy.

He was very underrated as a guitar player but was really incredible. Always loved his playing especially when he pulled out a banjo!
Seemed like a fun guy too. RIP!
