My sister's going to buy her first car, so, she can't choose between these models, https://www.mazdausa.com/vehicles/cx-5 and https://autoportal.com/newcars/honda/amaze/. In my opinion, first car is the best vehicles for young woman, while she thinks it looks not enough brightly, so, she prefers the last one. In turn, I think, Honda is too large compared to Mazda, isn't it? Needed your help.

In my vast experience, always get the woman the car she wants even if it's not the best choice. If she ends up hating the car you made her buy, then you're the bad guy. If she hates the car she chose, she'll never complain about; it would be an admission of your superior reasoning.
BTW, I agree that the Mazda appears to be the better choice.

My wife learned to drive in a full size Dodge van in the city. She will adapt to the vehicle. Even if it is a lorry. As her' brother, Share your thoughts with her. Then let her decide. Then support her choice. Unless you are paying for it. Then just buy what you want her to have.

She'll need a car that never needs oil, or air in the tires, and make sure the signals self cancel: )

Convince her of the joys of a manual transmission.
She will be more involved in the complete driving experience. the convergence of man, (or in this case woman), and machine.
She also, (pure speculation now, with no hard data), will be less distracted, less likely to crash, and last, be the envy of lesser men everywhere.

I wouldn't click on those links using my enemy's computer.

At best, it's clickbait. At worst, the links are infected and anybody who clicked on them needs to douche their computers.

Seriously, a new car for a new driver is stupid and often a sign that the parents are trying to buy the love they didn't give before. It won't work, and may result in a spoiled brat divorced woman with children.

The traditional answer is a used, 4 cylinder, not turbocharged, Volvo. Parts are expensive, however, and as the brother with a bike and presumably mechanical skills, you'll have to fix it.

Any modern small car with a stick shift under ten years old is a good choice for safety. Teaching her to drive stick will make her a better driver, reduce texting fatalities, and give her a superior skill set than most of her future dates. It will cut down the odds your future brother in law is an incompetent slacker.

If you value her freedom, a camper van will give her a space to get laid away from parental control, and you should supply premium condoms for safety's sake. If she's a Goth girl a used, customized hearse, (upgrade the brakes! ) will be a winner.

: )

The quality of the Subaru's have declined over the years. We've owned 4 of them and will not be buying another one after we trade in the current outback for a pickup.

My brother bought a Mazda for his son and new wife for a wedding present and they love it.

I agree that someones first car should be a used one.

I've never owned a new car, but the SO has owned 4 of them, soon to be 5. She will not buy a vehicle with an auto trans in it. She loves her manual transmissions.

Honestly, I think she needs a WRX with a manual transmission. She can get it hopped up after driving it for 6 months to a year.

Any Subaru

I've bought an Outback 3.6L last year. They are the best AWD . . . . far better than the new F-250SD or the 2017 F-350SD diesel.

I don't drive it that much but it's REALLY well made.

Better half is ordering another hot rod Audi . . . so you might consider the R8 Cabriolet. But, I'm not sure it's AWD.

>>>She'll need a car that never needs oil

Makes me laugh . . . friends Harvard Ph.D. son took off cross country in his Subaru Forester . . . .oblivious to the fact that cars have oil . . .he just "didn't know".

One of the quirks of the boxer motor . . . BMW, Porsche or Subaru . . is oil consumption.

Anyway . . he bought a motor on his trip.

I sold it to him. He sent me a check for $5,000 over the $72,000 I was asking. I sent him the overpayment back in small, unmarked bills in a satchel packed along with the bike in the crate when I shipped it to him.

Dammit all youn's, I do love me a Yugo! Looking for a convertible version they did, and then throw a fitted twin-turbo rotary into it...

Drove one to ATL and back to see David Bowie and Trent Reznor, AWESOME show. That car was dead nuts reliable. Smoky and cheap, but fun.

Oil story:

Many years ago the SO and I bought her dad's old Taurus (92)as a cheap commute vehicle for when I couldn't ride. He never cashed our checks and when the SO confronted him about he he agreed to deposit the checks. Never happened.

For the final payment we gave him a check for the full amount and told him to cash it. He handed it back and said he couldn't cash them in good conscience. Then he told me the story why:

He used the Taurus as a work vehicle when he worked for the FBI and always _assumed_ they took care of the maintenance. When he was getting the service done before selling it to us, the mechanic told him that it looked like the oil had not been changed in years and asked him the last time he serviced the vehicle, to which he replied: "Never".

Turns out he had not changed the oil in almost 40,000 miles assuming that the FBI had taken care of it...

We sold that vehicle with 165,000 miles on it and the only issue was the brakes. If you had to do an emergency stop, you might as well drive it straight to the shop to have the rotors _and_ calipers changed out. Had to do it 3 times.

We had a Ford Ranger at a place I worked. One day it was taken in for it's first service at over 50,000 miles. That truck ran fine and never had a problem.

Those taurus V6 engines were tanks.
My dad went through several while working field tech work for Digital.
Digital would keep them until about 130,000 and swap them out. They would give the option for the tech to buy it out at a pretty good deal.
Especially if the operator (like my dad) took care of them.
Our '89 was bought for my mom's use and needed a tranny at 178K
Then it went to my sister who used like a bumper car.

We ended up selling it for $650 with 250K on it.

Odd thing on that car lasted forever:
ALL front end linkages and ball joints.
ENTIRE exhaust system made it that long in Massachusetts.

And yes, the brakes were "anti-lock" weak.
Just open the door and drag your feet!
