I think conservatives are going to stop being so conservative (about confrontations, at least) and start being a bit more aggressive. Time to fight fire with fire.

It's gonna get ugly.

More on the Portland "protest"...

Protesters damage driver's car, no charges yet

They show the motorcycle cop, clearly just sitting doing nothing. "Monitoring" the situation, while the protesters, illegally redirect traffic, and beat on cars, causing thousands of dollars of damage. In the video, they interview the police, who in trying to excuse their inaction actually said "there is the potential for the officer to become the target". There needs to be some serious law suits filed against these cities that stand by letting the thugs rule with violence.

Agreed. Charges need to be filed against officers and police officials who mandate "watching" in situations like this. Destruction of property and personal assaults are illegal; cops should have stepped in.

They're SUPPOSED to be the targets in situations like that. That's why they wear armor, and carry weapons and radios. It's what they're PAID for. They get paid to protect citizens, and uphold the law. Period. Do your job.

They also get paid to follow orders. I’ll bet you a dollar that the order was to give the protesters ‘room to destroy’.

Agree. Hence my phrasing "officers and POLICE OFFICIALS". If the problem comes from the top...fix it where it starts.

I agree. I guess my point was that it may not be the cop-on-the-street’s fault.

I don't think it was the patrolman's fault.

I also think that any cop worth his/her uniform should have stepped in, regardless, as soon as they saw assault and property damage. "Let them assemble and express their First Amendment rights" is fine. However, the First Amendment protects PEACEFUL assembly.

Let them attack other citizens? Nope. That's not First Amendment, that's assault. If enough of them attack? Rioting.

And if they attack the wrong citizen?

Second amendment.

I believe that is eventually going to happen. Inevitably, the headline will read, “gunman fires into crowd of peaceful protesters.”

"They're SUPPOSED to be the targets in situations like that."

Actually not.

"the duty to provide public services is owed to the public at large, and, absent a special relationship between the police and an individual, no specific legal duty exists"

On 9/11 I was on my way to meet with the FBI and local bomb squad to assist in a bomb threat sweep of our building. I was riding in the elevator up with some of the executive leadership, the police chief, and a couple of uniformed officers. At that time, our officers were typically unarmed. They had firearms in the arsenal, but individual officers were not issued sidearms.
We all realized our workplace was permanently changed by the days events. One of our officers looked to the executives and and asked if he thought they would finally be issued duty sidearms. (The cop was an acquaintance of mine, knew my 2nd amendment positions, and we had talked at length many times about how as the uniform, he is the first target to a hostile force. He and I also agreed he should be able to meet that threat with more than a baton and radio.)
I'll never forget the answer.
The executive leader leaned over, and asked with a wry smile, as he thumped the officers chest plate, "You've got your armor on today don't you? You're protected." .
Then he stepped off the elevator. My officer colleague and I just stood there gobsmacked by the implication he was supposed to step between us and an AK wielding terrorist like Superman, stick his chest out, and wrestle the gun away using his superior tactical training and command presence. My cop friend recognized the disbelief and anger in my face, he leaned over and said, "F*&^n politics." Then, with a smile he added, "Lucky for us, today were more likely to get blown up than shot at.
Cops have a twisted sense of humor..

...except that the "peaceful protesters" are addicted to youtube and farcebook-posting their exploits for all to see...

I think the news will condemn, but eventually the reality of "hmm...if I keep pulling this shit I could get dead..." will sink in to even the most dense of the offenders. Eventually it'll be a case of Natural De-selection - the nation (and innocent citizens) will cease to be soft targets, and the offenders will either die trying...or quit trying.

No greater pro-2nd amendment argument can be given than this statement above. The primary responsibility for your protection lies solely with you. Expecting others to provide this will likely leave you disappointed, if not dead.

https://www.dangerous.com/49918/gay-media-wont-cal l-out-snls-gay-shaming-but-tucker-carlson-will/

Gay shaming and the sitcoms of my youth. Wasn't it Archie Bunker who had a heart to heart with an old Army buddy?

In the current social insanity climate, one of the running jokes of my generation is how we were ahead of our time as far as being a Hipster. We had beards, before it "was cool", rode bikes, before they became status symbols for the rich. We customized our motorcycles, before swoopy choppers with BMW luxury car prices. We changed gaskets and cams...... Wait, the Hipsters never read Zen & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance. They can't change their own oil. They never actually meditated, they have an app.

It's not so funny, anymore.

A clear violation of the Threefold Way.

Real Wiccans do not cast curses. The negative energy rebounds upon the caster three times as much as the energy expended.

That's true for good deeds too. Good thoughts give good feelings all around.

So, you don't believe there is magic and the wishes of a group of self hurting haters can't possibly do harm?

Really?

I assume you don't believe in prayer.

Hey, you could be right. Chanting to your invisible sky gods probably won't get you money falling into your lap. Might not have any measurable results with Aunt Martha's leukemia.

But study after study shows that when loved ones care enough to pray, there is a measurable effect on mental health and attitude for patients and relatives. Sure, it's almost certainly a placebo effect, purely psychological, and the emotional support often means better results for medical treatment, overall, even if it sure seems that when your number is up, no intangible beliefs can stop that.

Sorry about Aunt Martha.

Solidly real is the corrosive effect of rage and hate. Mean SOBs may seem to live forever, marinating their hearts in bile. But sane people don't want to Be Mr. Burns ( Simpsons ) even if you envy his torch hearing mob escape Montgolfier.

Ditto these take Wiccans will just raise their blood pressure, risk of stroke, diabetes, blindness, ( hysterical & retinal ) and sexual disfunction.

Real Wiccans know you pay for hate. Threefold.

Sure, it's just Jesuit teachings of morality and kindness, restated. Traditional Christian religious beliefs with a coat of paint, and cooler costumes for the Priests.

Which is why these self affirming haters aren't real religious folk. They're the mentally ill. Think Carrie's Mother.....

I come from a Roman Catholic family; Catholic school through high school. Still love me a plaid skirt...but that's not the point here.

People who don't believe in God use the exuse "he never answers my prayers".

My mother's response has always been - and it makes perfect sense - "sure he does; he answers every prayer. But sometimes...the answer is 'no'".

Pretty simple, actually.

There's also "God helps those who help themselves". Not "God helps those who help themselves to whatever's on the shelf at the store without paying", but "God helps you when you show dedication, and WORK for your goals".

And that's why lazy people "don't believe in God".

I think periodic consideration of your situation and feelings, fears, etc and putting them into words is psychologically healthy whether you call it praying or not.

Go re read those paragraphs. I state that people are casting curses. I speak specifically to those who don't believe in the power of a curse, cross reference the power of prayer, which is, again to give reference to unbelievers, and further state that casting curses, is a negative act, in faiths that accept they exist. Hate turns on your own life.

The comments were to give the skeptics an out so they can rationalize around their misunderstanding. And learn.

If you believe in prayer that sentence wasn't for you.

No insult or mocking of any faith was intended or implied. When I mock a faith, I do so openly. : )
