IPA means India pale ale. The excessive load of hops is to preserve the unrefrigerated beer as it is shipped by sail powered ships from England to India. It's the beer version of retsina, the Greek wine preserved by pine tar so it can survive in a clay pot in a slow sailboat in 100+ degree heat across the Mediterranean in an age where refrigeration could only be a act of The Gods.

Both have their lovers, but the IPA popularity is mostly due to yuppie fad consciousness and the ease with which a brewery can make mediocre beer have an overpowering flavor with little effort.

I admit that is cynical. I've had some tasty IPAs, but the same brews without all the hops would have been good, too. Not all breweries use hops as a bandaid on indifferent beer, but how can you tell?

It's not easy finding a perfect balance of flavors..... Impossible to make a brew that pleases everyone. The Coors mythology is really based on the fact that for decades there wasn't refrigerated trucks to get beer from Golden to Chicago or LA so it came in tiny amounts, and often spoiled. Unobtanium is prized.

Frankly, even in Nebraska in my youth Coors was not available in the Eastern part of the state on a regular basis, but Falstaff was.

When I first tried Japanese high end beer, I was astonished that I got the unmistakable flavor of Falstaff. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falstaff_Brewing_C orporation

Not really odd. Japanese beer comes from German immigrants, just like Falstaff. And today that German taste, a pre-prohibition staple, is not in favor with American palates.

I agree completely on hot sauce, too. I much prefer a roasted peppers flavor over pure capsaicin. Flavor! Damnit! But taste is taste.

My favorite IPA: Southern Star Conspiracy Theory. Perfectly balanced.

My favorite hot sauce: Mad Anthony http://madanthonycafe.com Again, perfectly balanced. Although, if you’re not into hot food, you will disagree.

Chauly! You prefer Bud?

Taste is taste. Falstaff was never my favorite, but it was the available cheap beer of my yout. It had a distinctive, real German beer flavor. Like Kirin Lager. ( not so much Kirin Ichiban, more available here, but those malt flavors are still there ) Lots of malt, & Japanese beer has minimum malt rules. ( lots, by law )

But..... Feel free to mock Falstaff. Don't forget Iron City while you're at it. ; )

The local Genesee brewery has gone micro brew & contract brewing the last decade. They still make Genesee Cream Ale, and the locals have unflattering comments involving loose bowel movements for it. Their regular stuff is not to my taste.

The seasonal Genessee Bock with a dancing goat on the can is actually pretty good. Equal or close to Norwegian Aass Bock. Tasty.

I recall buying Topper at $.88/6-pack at the Grand Onion. If we were feeling flush because Banquet Chicken Pot Pies were on sale, we'd drink a little more upscale like Schlitz or IC (maybe PBR--We were cool before, well, you know)

Coors beer was originally non-pasteurized, so it had to be kept cold, or it would spoil, therefore limiting its distribution range. Pasteurized beers, like most national brands, naturally traveled better. Supposedly, Oregon had outlawed non-pasteurized, so it was the last state to legally sell Coors.

Like I said, taste. I may make fun of your choices, but some folk just hate meatloaf, and so on and so forth.

A buddy went to Trader Joes and complained to the manager that they had zero amber beer, and almost all that was on the shelf were IPAs. Food Fad.

I'm not even offended if you like your steak well done and add ketchup. I might mock you, but you have to expect that. On my college years 3 am visits to the diner, everyone else was eating steak & eggs, ( not a bad choice ) while I was having the Clam Chowder. ( The diner's special, and stand your spoon up thick after a long day's simmering ) I always got comments, and never cared.

Eat what you want, drink what pleases you.

and if you don't agree.... ; )

It's the President's habit, too. Well mocked by many.

I'd still cook steak for a lady with that preference, the teasing would depend on relationship.

Some take that kind of thing well & would just smile as they poured on the Hunt's corn syrup free ketchup. Others get upset, and them, I wouldn't openly mock. But they might only get invited for meatloaf night. ( depending, again, on relationship. )

By the way.... I try to buy only no corn syrup ketchup. And not Heinz, because a treasonous scum married into the fortune, after his first rich wife got ill and he dumped her. That's a personal boycot, ymmv.

I don't care about the corn syrup. Fructose is fructose, regardless of the plant it came from.

I also do not buy Heinz products, and for the same reason. I know, I'm really hurting their bottom line. They probably manufacture the store brand I buy instead.

I'll continue to prefer cane sugar to the locally grown corn syrup. There is a taste difference, even if partly imagined, and the health cost is yet to be determined.

Ditto the personal boycott. It makes no statistical difference, but I'm at least not knowingly contributing.

Actually, brown sugar is more processed than white. Brown sugar is made by adding molasses back into the refined white sugar.

Sugar choice is flavor choice. My favorite cookie recipe used white & Brown sugar. My favorite beverage uses corn syrup, but did use white sugar, and should.

For coffee, raw sugar is nice.

Cut off one head, and two shall rise to take it's place. Hail Hydra!

Soros even looks like his mask is slipping.

Promises of huge tax revenues have been lies. The Colorado tax schemes just encourage the black market, and Obama's weaponization of the banking system against the Pot industries made for a cash only economy that attracts robbery. The same refusal to allow citizens to use banks, by the Obama administration, made for tax cheating. The only rational explanation is the legalization is Supposed to fail, that it is a Cloward-Piven wreck the system drive, like Obamacare is.

Anyone with half a brain would demand Congress remove Pot from Schedule One, the list of very addictive & abused drugs like heroin, and then experiment with taxes to try and maximize revenue while minimizing use.

But they Won't do that, since it doesn't accomplish their unspoken goals, making everyone a criminal, controlled by the Holy State.

I could be blaming evil intent for typical incompetence, but..... Hail Hydra! The evil is paying for the movement.

Two thoughts.

This isn't news. It's well known by anyone who paid attention in the aftermath of Johnson's mismanagement.

It looks like it might be an attempt to wash Johnson's reputation. Not sure. LBJ is on my short list of folk worth hating in his grave because of the needless deaths he & Robert Strange McNamara cost us. ( and if Nixon hadn't ended the war in time, probably mine )

So I am biased.

I stand tall with ms. Ratajowski in her fashion choice. How dare mean girls shame her for not wearing a bra?

I disagree with ms. Ratajowski on her political views, but must support her right to choose to show off her body As She Sees Fit, and condemn the attacks on her from less self confident and exhibitionist women.

Full disclosure, I also supported the "Top Free Seven" women who went to jail, and to court, to win the New York legal decision that in public parks, there would be equality in going without a shirt for men & women. Yea! Them. ( and to my personal taste, none of them were as pleasing to view as the actress insulted above, yet I still supported them. )

However, a year after Ratajkowski complained that she couldn’t find work in Hollywood because her breasts are too big, her protest outfit appeared to attract more attention than the cause she was protesting.

I don't think her breasts are the problem. Maybe she can't act? I really don't know, I've never seen her in anything.

And this is what it is about. Ruining the life of any conservative who dares to serve our country. If they can't win on the debate of ideas, it's just about the politics of personal destruction. Some of these comments are surprising:

https://twitter.com/BoroTaz/status/104872411993046 2208?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ct wterm%5E1048724119930462208&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2F www.americanthinker.com%2Fblog%2F2018%2F10%2Fcraze d_leftist_tweet_about_ruining_kavanaugh_gives_the_ lefts_game_away.html

The main page (feed? I don't twit, sorry) belongs to a guy who says he used to be Left, but they're going too far...and there's a LOT of folks in the comments section who agree.

There may be hope yet.

I still subscribe to the idea that the full-on lunacy belongs to the politicians and celebrities, but more "everyday" folk are being - to use a popular term - "woke". I may be uncharacteristically optimistic here, but I suspect human nature is basically good, and that folks will eventually realize how horrible the Left is becoming...and split from the radicals.

Doesn't mean it won't get worse before it gets better...but pages like the one I linked do give me some hope overall.

Have a simple discussion is impossible with the "woke" types. That would put their tenuous worldview in peril.

No simple answer here. And misleading headline. They were stopping thousands of people of all "races". It's what you do in a drug traffickers corridor.

Are all these busts legit? Doubtful. most are. A Big Brother police state? A bit, yeah.

Inevitable when prohibition makes drugs super profitable and makes busting drug possessing folk super profitable when they take your car, or house, and you have to sue to get your property back, even if no charges stick to you?

Yes.

You couldn't design a system to make cops hated and screw this many people on purpose and get anyone to believe it.
