so my son has a sportster-hybrid buell xr1200.It had a bad valve guide seal and was blowing oil out the rear breather. I thought when the seal was gone the oil went down the cylinder? Can someone explain it to me? I did replace the seal and the problem went away

I'm guessing some oil does get sucked into the cylinder. When the valve is closed, positive crankcase pressure would also force air/oil mist past the valve guides into the rocker boxes, where it would get vacated out the breather tubes.
I think.

That’s right. Combustion byproducts make their way past the bad seal, and exit the rocker box vent, carrying oil with them.
