Our small breed beagle of sixteen years Daisy passed late last year.

The wife and kid went to a pet store recently to "look around." The kid fell in love with a fluffy little pomsky. The dog was literally the cutest animal I've ever seen, but it really lacked personality...behaving more like a pet than a companion. She had a brother that was equally handsome, if not more, but was just awful in temper and demeanor. It was literally the most ill behaved puppy I've come across...except for perhaps some chihuahuas...but at least they learn to treat their owners well. At any rate, at the center of the back wall was a little mottled ball labeled "miniature australian shepherd." These dogs, I was pretty sure, were known to have a good pedigree and were known for being well tempered and intelligent family dogs. We decided to spend some time with him, and well...a few days later...he was ours.

I'm admittedly not a dog person, preferring fluffy cats with bad attitudes...but this guy is a pure joy save for the instances where he gets a bit excitable and demonstrates how sharp those little teeth are.

Aussies ROCK. I still miss Calvin, he was with me for 18 wonderful years. They're smart as a whip - use it to your advantage though. Teach him...or he'll get creative and learn how to bypass fences, baby gates, and other safety items or household rules. Teach him to be constructive with his smarts.

Now there's a good looking dog!

It's just a short 6 hour drive for a play date...

Addi loves to play with babies.

His name is Max Rockatansky. In the mornings he thinks he'd like to be a road warrior as he yearns for chasing cars...moving at a high rate of speed.

He picks things up pretty quick and certainly tries to push boundaries. Keeping him active/tired seems to work pretty well. Max was better behaved on day one than the Beagle ever was. She didn't settle down until she was well up in age.

The blue merle variety are particularly attractive dogs. The variability in their eye color is pretty interesting as well.

That's a short drive? Yeah, maybe sometime. Yours is a looker, as well.
