WDVX does about an hour-long show every Saturday from 1-2PM about craft beer and the local scene... they were discussing exactly that topic yesterday. Maybe you could pull up a podcast?

I was never a fan of IPAs until my boss started brewing them and got a very clean hoppy flavor and aroma which was nice and did not need to be masked with citrus. Before I would only drink porters and stouts.

Alright. I will admit, through years of alpha testing by mass consumption, I don't particularly like the taste of beer.

When we were coming up, it was easy to know what you meant by that statement. Beer all pretty much tasted the same; some just had a bit more taste than others.

Nowadays, saying you don't like the taste of beer is like saying you don't like the taste of food. There are so many types of beers that taste radically different from one another. Yea, they've gone off the deep end with some of them, but it's worth trying stuff out; you might be surprised. You can find anything from an IPA with enough bitter hops in it to blow the top of your head off, to a chocolate stout that's like dessert in a bottle, to a sour that tastes like distilled persimmon juice, to fruity concoctions that are closer to mixed drinks than beer. Some have no more alcohol than Coors Lite while 12 oz of others will put you on your ass.

Now admittedly some of that doesn't sound good at all, but it gives you an idea the wide variety of stuff that's available out there. Odds are you might find something that'll make you go "Holy crap- this is beer? It's awesome!"

Many evenings my friend and I end up in his neighbor's garage drinking Busch. Busch is the man's beer and that's all he wants to drink. Well one day his wife's rocking chair broke a spindle out and he wasn't quite sure how to fix it. He showed me and I took him to the shop and used the lathe to put a 1/4" hole in each end and used a wooden dowel to connect the two. Worked like a charm. So since the shop is at a brewery we went in to celebrate our victory. They don't serve Busch. I ordered him a beer called Dorfbier. It's a German style Dunkel, which means Dark Lager. It's dark malts gives it a nice malty flavor and it's low in bitterness. He looked at me and said, "I don't like brown yucky beer!" I told him he shouldn't judge a beer by it's color. He reluctantly tasted it and his eye's grew big. He looked at the beer and then me. "That's really good!" So a good day, fixed a chair and converted a stubborn old bastard!

Depends what I'm doing. Hot weather, need to cool off? Lager, or Corona. Cool weather, with food, or just relaxing and looking for taste? Porter or stout.

I like the taste of beer, depending what it is (not a fan of hoppy, or IPAs)...but I drink lite when I can because I don't like mah belly. Trying to avoid the "first trimester" look...

Grew up on Lone Star and Shiner.
Shiner, a tiny family beer - Spoetzl Brewery, was the Texas hippies' beer of choice.
Found an awesome lager from Portland, Henry Weinhard's, in 1979 and drank it almost exclusively until Coors bought Blitz-Weinhards a few years ago.
They ruined it.

Back to Shiner since Lone Star is also ruined...
