Made it to the range yesterday and used the binary trigger a little. Double tapped like it was full auto. 4 shot burst sounds like less than 4. Functioned flawlessly.

Yeeesh! Lowest bidder!

My dislike of quad rail hand guards is personal not a belief You shouldn't have one.

I really liked the idea of modular design and being able to accessorize. Then I tried a buddy's & didn't like the sharp edges, the weight, and how walking through brush had an auto camouflage instant gillie suit application. ; )

A smooth guard with M-LOK slots is much more my taste. And thanks for cueing me to the KeyMod vs. M-LOK difference.

However, taste is taste. Run what YOU like. And if I want pink Hello Kitty to be The theme on My fire arm, I obviously don't care about anyone else's taste. : )

Actually, I'm more likely to go Dodge 1970 Sublime.

The spirit and intent of the 2nd Amendment is for citizens to have, precisely, "weapons of war." We've allowed political concerns to define what our rights are for too long.

There was a mass shooting in Toronto Canada by a Hussain. Of course, it is attributed to mental illness, and there are calls for more stringent gun control laws despite their stringent gun control schemes.

Not open carry, but carry outside of the home. I believe the ruling would still allow an open carry ban, but effectively requires that they start issuing concealed carry permits.

I (allegedly) carry. Absolutely, definitely, everywhere.

State statutes do NOT override the constitution. It is worth it to me to have that argument in court. To be able to defend myself is more important than the possible state law violation.

I can trust myself to not be the guy who gets drunk, mad, and shoots someone. I am also not the guy to do backflips and ND in a bar.

Lots of people shouldn't have guns. Thats why I carry one.

From about 1:00:03 to about 1:08:20 is a discussion on "which martial art should I pursue?". These are "gun guys", and the answer, is, IMHO, Ok not so humble, correct.

I've dabbled in martial arts since High School, a bit before, and got Serious only when I got to Tai Chi, which for most folk, is Dance with History. Since my Sifu was also an expert in other forms, he taught Tai Chi, as a real Martial art. This means that when the subject comes up, Internet Experts assume I'm a poser dancer, which isn't really unfair. Real fighters ask questions and understand my training is esoteric, but real.

IMHO the easiest way to tell serious truth seeking good folk, is they ask questions, can, and will, change their minds if they are wrong, and would rather know the truth, than win an argument. In fact, they don't argue. They discuss, they learn, They Question. Occasionally Lecture. : )

In the end, I agree, learn ANYTHING. Then, when you learn to listen to your body, pick the art that has aspects you like.

Want to meditate and be really calm at will when the sky is falling? Pick an Art with spiritual aspects that suit you. What works for me may not work for you.

Want to lose yourself with physical precision, seeking perfection and inner peace through sweat & repetition? Pick an art with physical aspects that suit you. ( The 2 examples may be the same art for me, but not for you )

Do you want to just be able to survive & escape physical harm, don't care about alpha states, meditation, spiritual awakening, or listening to Beatles Albums while practicing? That's out there too.

But take whatever is available. Then, move on, as you please.

I'm personally fond of arts that are fusions of traditional and modern science, ( although modern in many cases means 1920 ) but if a thousand year tradition of bad-assery in unbroken line from a particular Monk on a particular mountain is your bag, Enjoy. I get it.

It's nearly impossible to offend me with honest enthusiasm. Go for it. Just do it.

Even if you never get mugged, or stop a robbery, or have to stop murderous intruders, which, I must add, is a GOOD THING! doing some art that gives you pride in being better than most at something, anything, is worth the time and effort.

And, since I taught my kid sister to defend herself as I learned, ( 5'3" ) when she actually was accosted in a bar, the result was the Bouncers complaining that they would have handled it. Her comment was, "aw, I got blood on my favorite blouse". And his was unknown, since he wasn't conscious.

That's pretty dumb.

It really comes down to long gun caliber vs pistol.

People shot with pistols survive at the rate of roughly seven out of nine, IIRC. People shot center mass with a rifle or shotgun tend to die...and yet, a vast majority of those killed, either by suicide or homicide, are killed with the use of a pistol, with long guns of all kinds used in only three to four percent of all crimes involving firearms.

Bigger guns kill more effectively. What a revelation

I'd love to have the carriage to carry my 1911 A1 everyday.
Ain't happenin.

Tried a 9mm Shield, too big. It lives in my backpack.
Tried a .380 Bodyguard, too big. It lives in my medicine bag.

.22Mag 5 shot single action lives in my pocket.

<edit> Bonus - a "Littlefuse" fuse box holds 5 rounds of .22Mag.

I like the break action version. That gives me the illusion that I can hide behind a concrete planter while terrorists pepper the area with AK fire, and reload before the Sun goes down.

Absolutely not a realistic scenario, but if body type limits your carry ability, Like mine does, ( more spherical than I'd like, and working on it ) any thing you can carry is better than a .480 Ruger in the safe at home.

Now, a buddy refuses to carry a .22 magnum, because "It couldn't kill Reagan".

Never mind the High Not PC language. That is deliberate provocation.

It Almost did, I suspect if he had to wait for an ambulance instead of having a fire team of agents to whisk him away at high speed direct to the closest high end medical care, he might not have lived.

But even fans have to admit the .22 magnum is marginal. Marginal to not enough.

However! I'd love Kel-Tek's .22 magnum auto pistol, IF I could have the 30 round magazine. Volume of fire makes up for a lot.

It's like the PS-90. I don't mind the barrel length that much, over the original FN P-90, but the 5.7 round,is designed as a PDW cartridge for use against armored opponents, and that ammo is banned. Ok, no problem, I don't have armored opponents, and if I did, I'm in serious trouble. But it's terminal ballistics are compromised for anti-armor roles, and multiple hits are ASSUMED in it's design. Ok, I don't really need full auto, and can't have it in many states, and I can stroke the trigger fast enough for a .22 magnum level cartridge to be effective, theoretically.

But with 7 rounds in the magazine? The Legal limit in NY? Sorry, it had better be a bigger gun. A PS-90 in .30 Carbine? eh? I pretty much have to go up to a 9mm or .380 as a minimum, with artificially limited magazine capacity.

Now, if I was rich, I'd think about making a Winchester 1895 derivative mini clone in .223 with high cap magazines, as a way around local Civil Rights Violations.

It's a shame I have to consider image to prevent being hassled or even panic shot when I go to the range. But it's also a major hazard to worry about getting mistakenly panic shot if I ever have to use a weapon in public. Only education and anti-indoctrination will cure that.

I had one of these North American Arms before this one.
Gave the first wife a smaller .22LR version for Christmas 1985.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation had it last I heard.

Wife killed herself with it.
Got it back from CBI, gave it to a friend leaving on a roadtrip.
He killed a guy in Georgia who was trying to assault his girlfriend.

After it killed twice, I wanted no part of it...
Don't think a .22 won't kill

Zac, Not to be morbid, but, I would have carried it. Should be one more in it. If I live in a cartridge limited State, I'd carry .454 Casull or larger. I prefer to be able to adjust from stun to kill in the amount of force used to eliminate a threat. But, if it needs to be done in one shot, the bigger the crash the less likely the survivability. My favorite bullet in terms of FPE is the .357 magnum. The .223/5.56 is right in that same area. It is my choice for soft targets when you have to pay attention to collateral damage. That said, I choose to carry a Sig P-227 in .45 ACP or a Beretta 21A in .22 LR on most days. There are reasons for both. .45 just works, and .22 isn't at home in a safe. My 4 go to list looks like this;

Rossi snub nose in .357 Magnum
AR-15 11.5" barrel patterned after the GAU-5
Sig Sauer P-227 .45 ACP
Beretta 21A .22LR

My vote for best all around when concealability is factored in goes to the Rossi. I can carry it IWB in a Don Hume leather holster with a clip on it, in a pocket with a Remora holster, or Deep concealed in a Smart Carry bag in front of my junk.

The fight you don't have to fight is a win today.

STRONGLY suggest practicing with the rig you hope to carry DRESSED in the clothing you plan to wear.

In our Chuck Taylor advanced defensive pistol class, we tried loose shirt drawing - it adds almost half a second to bringing the gun into play. Drawing from under a jacket would be even worse.

Practice, practice, practice and ESPECIALLY helpful to have a spotter who is knowledgeable in the whole process of bringing your weapon into play. Sunny and I do this for each other. Very helpful.

First, check what State & local ( city/county ) paperwork is needed to posses a hand gun. Deal with all that in a legal and timely manner.

Then. Ask the other guys. ; )

I buy all my rifle/shotgun parts from Midway USA or Brownells, good service from both, or find them in a gun show.

Assembling an AR pistol is not a good idea in NY, so I have not done so.

I can theoretically make a 1911, but the paperwork is wonky, and if I understand the system, I have to make it, take it to a gun shop or other FFL holder, then pay them to sell it to me, after they buy it from me. After I get a license to manufacture guns in New York. So I have to register a company, register the gun I made, as a company, register the sale to the gun shop, then register the purchase, and have the gun I made put on my carry permit.

I could be wrong. I may have skipped a step.

Oh, yeah. Taxes.

Purchasing a lower Receiver, with a serial number, from a licensed firearm dealer, is the easiest start. Mail order, or local, it has to come to you through a FFL holder.

Then you have to satisfy Ohio law, of which I am utterly ignorant.

There may be paperwork differences between a pistol AR and rifle AR purchase. Don't mess that up.

I assume you want to be able to take it to the range, and maybe even go out of state with it in a legal manner. Making sure you have the right forms, and that it's all legal is the difference between a hobby, and prison.

Consider that if you go to Buffalo NY down rt.90 you pass through 3 different state jurisdictions, and unless you have a NYS pistol permit ( or are a Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the right paperwork ) you are in deep trouble with a pistol of any sort, and another PILE of deep trouble from NY anti-civil rights legislation, from having a Satanic Ritual Device ( I might have the wording wrong ) .... it's worth the effort to check the rules, first.

Also know that not only does NY not recognize any other state's pistol/weapon carry permits/paperwork, no other State recognizes NY's in return. So effectively it's a different country, with different customs, and while not as bad as Russia, you still don't want to go to jail here.

Biggest deal with the purchase of the lower is what the FFL paper work classifies it as. If it comes as a rifle, don't slap a pistol upper on it. My next lower will probably be an 80% lower.
