Are all of them the same? Will one from a 2008 fit a 2007? I'm sending it to Germany and want to make sure he gets the right one.

Yea, I think they’re all interchangeable, but sometime around 2008 they changed from plastic to metal gears. The metal geared ones seem to be bulletproof. You can probably find the part number for the improved version with a little searching.
