Since not everyone here is on Facebook, I thought I'd get everyone caught up. On Wednesday, June 20th, I was returning home from dinner with a friend. I was approximately 300-400 feet from home and passing a gas station when some jackass more intent on locating an available pump than being aware I was directly in front of the driveway of said station swerved right into me and slammed into my left leg. The result was my first ever broken bone; what the doctor's call a "Tibial Plateau Fracture." In order for it to heal properly, they had to install a couple steel plates and screws to stabilize the bone. I was told I MIGHT be able to put some weight on my left leg by the beginning of August (minimum of six weeks) but that I probably shouldn't even THINK about getting back on a bike until October or November. So, my riding season is essentially done. To top it off, the insurance company totaled the bike (my 2016 Zero). Although most of the components are relatively inexpensive, the battery appears to have sustained some damage and that part is half the price of a new motorcycle. It's all in my lawyers hands now. Right now I just want to financially RUIN the brain-dead jackass who hit me. I'm STILL going to Pittsburgh for the MotoAmerica races, but I will be going by car and I'll probably be hobbling around on crutches. Hope I see some of you there. |

Hey, Jaime. I saw you allude to your accident in the Racing section. I was curious about what happened, but didn't want to pry. I was also curious if you were on your E-bike as I have an aversion to being silent and on a motorcycle. So you were both cruising in the same direction and he made a hard right and sideswiped you? Heal soon, my friend! And enjoy the races! I am still fresh off my camping weekend at Laguna Seca....ah what a place! |

I just had a buddy hit a dog and he went down at about 55 MPH. Two lane road with traffic behind him and coming the opposite direction as well. He came out of it relatively unscathed. He could have slid into oncoming traffic or been run over from behind. His Kawi 636 is a mess. Apparently the dog owner is renting the home. I would think the owner's homeowners insurance would cover something like this? Anyone have experience with this kind of thing? |

No, going in opposite directions. He just swerved left and right into me as I was passing the driveway. Mind you, the bike is bright yellow, I had my headlight on, I was wearing a day-glo fluorescent yellow helmet and I was wearing a reflective red vest. He was pretty much looking RIGHT AT ME but didn't see me. Best part is, he told his insurance company I hit HIM as I was leaving the gas station, which proves he never saw me. I also told my lawyer he'll have a fun time explaining why someone on an ELECTRIC motorcycle would be in a gas station in the first place. (Message edited by jaimec on July 13, 2018) |

Eh, maybe you had to take a leak at the gas station....400 feet from your home! Yeah, it's plain scary how people can have their eyes on you but nothing is going on in that mushy thing they claim is a brain. So, you had the classic "car turning left in front of a motorcyclist". Man, I am soooo tired of hearing the same story. 90% of the time in car v. motorcycle accident it's a cager turning left. Ride safe, everyone! |

I saw a pickup truck run over a traffic barrel as he pulled out of a gas station earlier this year. Hit it dead square and got it stuck under his front bumper. Many things simply become invisible to many people. Hope you heal up well. |

I call my commute just another day on the F-tard freeway. AhllKillya (Alcoa) highway and then the Pellissippi Autobahn. Horrible drivers going to work, then coming home at night, pretty peaceful. Heal up well buddy. |

Damnit. At least clownpenis didn't hit your BMW I guess. I've had some scary crap happen around gas stations too. I had a tool clip my bike and run over my helmet while I was pumping gas. SLOWLY as I screamed at her to stop. Just ground the helmet under her front bumper at .5 miles per hour. A close second for hives of stupidity is dunkin donuts. I clench up every time I see one and cover my brakes. |

This was a YOUNG guy, freshly out of college driving a late model Audi. If he's lucky, he'll be able to afford a used Yugo when I'm done with him. |

You know they made convertible Yugos, right? I've always wanted to pull the body off one, and build a chassis/motor sleeper... https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=zidJW5O kBu-yggf3zruACg&q=yugo+convertible&oq=yugo+con&gs_ l=psy-ab.3.0.0j0i22i30k1l9.1261.4368.0.6311.9.8.0. 0.0.0.245.1126.1j6j1.8.0..2..0...1.1.64.psy-ab..1. 8.1122.0..35i39k1j0i131k1j0i20i264k1j0i131i20i264k 1j0i10k1.0.boQOqWMyKzs

Yeah people are too wrapped up in their own worlds to pay attention to us... hell, I got run over by a big ass truck while I was sitting in my convertible at a stop sign. Anyway, glad to hear you're patched up... you just need something mechanized or battery operated, then you can be a cyborg like Crusty! |

Heal well Jaimec. I had a very close call last night. Within 5 feet of a t-bone into HER passenger side. Controlled intersection with flashing red (her street) and mine flashing yellow. 25mph to zero in about 20 feet! I had the right of way... Ride as if they don't care about your life, cause they don't |

Bored bored bored. We've had some absolutely beautiful weather and all I can do is look out the window and sigh. I can get out in my car, but it's NOT the same thing (even though it is a brand new car). Has any other Bad Webber had this kind of injury? How long before you were riding again? |

Oh, things just keep getting better. It's been a month and we still haven't seen the police report. The lawyer suggested I call the precinct (since I'm a party mentioned in the report, and he isn't). The person who answered was rather abrupt and pointed out that the "Accident Information Exchange Report" I received from the cop had the instructions I needed to get it. So, I followed the directions, went to the NYS DMV website, paid my non-refundable $7.00 search fee only to learn IT WASN'T IN THE SYSTEM!! I called the lawyer back to update him, and he suggested calling the main headquarters where all of the records end up. I got transferred to the records department, and the woman said according to her records, the report was still "Incomplete." I'd have to call the precinct again and hope for better results. I called back, and the same abrupt jerk answered but when I explained the situation, he was a LITTLE more understanding. He gave me the number for their administrative department and then attempted to transfer me, but the number was busy. I called the lawyer back with this new information and he got on the phone and managed to get through. Apparently the report was returned to the precinct for some kind of clerical error, but the reporting officer had been transferred to a different precinct!! So, like in all lovely bureaucracies, it just sat there. Now that it was brought to their attention, they will forward it to the officer at his new post to get it corrected. Hopefully we'll have more information next week. The report DID back my story in that it did NOT say I was exiting the gas station when I was hit. |

I've been known to show up at Buelltoberfest in a car and on crutches! Consider yourself in really lousy company!

Dealing with the police, lawyers, and doctors all at once is aggravating. Unfortunately the lawyers go where the money is...which is with the insurance companies. The person who causes such grievous injury will likely only have their insurance rate go up slightly for a few years. |
