Well, He is a remarkable person and it is definitely a privilege to have met him and to be associated with his awe inspiring motorcycle inventions. Regardless of the poor decisions of others that adversely affected his ability to continue developing his vision he has put down like Godzilla in the American bike culture. And for all that, he remains an approachable engaged friend to all his fans. Here is a pic from Rocky Point at an 85 person Buell fest put on by ASBN back in the day. Erik was busy heading up Buell's presence at Laguna Seca, Buell had a hospitality tent, pressure, hot schedule, interviews with press, etc., and yet he wants to come have dinner with us, and share about the new XB platform. He made the rounds and chatted with everybody. As I was wrapping up our equipment and walking out, we were the last to leave the restaurant. The parking lot was empty and dark. It was me, Kirsten (wife), and my pal Augie, an S3 rider. To my surprise, walking out behind us was Erik. I invited him to join in our cigar smoke out and he happily agreed. He smoked cigars with us in the parking lot while Kirsten sat in the car (cold). I won't bore with the details, but he was very open about Buell, HD and product development and personal history in racing and career path. He stayed with us a looong time. It was the highlight of my Buell experiences. Erik is a genuine righteous dude. Rode the S2 and the Uly tonight. So fun. Will ride the S2 tomorrow.

I met him once and told him of my adventures, experiments, and near explodie engine moments with my S1. It looked like he felt a bit awkward, but he entertained me just the same. I was talking tubers and it was obvious that he had other designs...literally. It was just before the big break up. |

+1000!! All I want for my B-day (today) is a 2010 Ulysses, or a mint S2, S3T or something easy... Although I'll always regret not waiting ONE more year to buy a Uly (no crystal ball back then to tell the future), I really enjoyed my '05 CityX. Rode the snot out of it, had to put a 2nd motor in, rode it to HC 2010 (Ow, 2000 miles in 4 days), sold it with 46K miles... fun times! |

The first time I met Erik was at a Homecoming at the factory. I shook his hand and thanked him for the Ulysses. I've loved Buell's since my first ride on a RR1000 but my long ass legs just couldn't deal with it. Then came Ulysses! Thanks again Herr Buell! |

I know I’ve told that cigarxstory of mine way too often. But a good martini will get the stories rolling. I doubt any other group of moto enthusiasts has had such personal contact with the head guy the way Buellers have. |
