Hey all, once again I'm calling on the collective- what's your favorite/best choice for black, kinda dressy work shoes?

I'm on my feet constantly for 6-8+ hours straight, walking most of the time on concrete. Looking also for non-skid soles. I've always been in the habit of using good shoes AND insoles- no matter what you choose, I've found you'll still need some good insoles.

A few days ago I made the mistake of spending a day off mostly barefoot, then going back to work in an 18,000 square foot facility, basically "power-walking" on concrete. My left heel just got SUPER sore, and I've got a high pain threshold. Gonna severely limit barefoot time, and go shopping soon for some dang good shoes.

Thanks again in advance- I'm sure lots of youn's know what I'm talking about!!

I've had good luck with new balance shoes in general, they have good arch support, and I add plantar fasciitis insoles to every shoe I wear for additional support. Makes all the difference in the world for me. I get the good-quality insoles from Rite-Aid, they have a carbon-fiber look to them. Since I have a pair for every set of shoes I have, I use double-side carpet tape to hold the insole into the shoe. Then, if you want (or if the people around you want), add a cushioned odor-eater.

Get the insoles before you try on the shoes, and put 'me all in the shoe with your foot when you test them out.

I've also had great luck in colder weather with Columbia boots, they have one that I can't remember the name of but it's got 200mg of thinsulate insulation and they are SUPER comfy. Have an almost-LL-Bean-duck-boot rubber toe cover.

I've been a big fan of Dr Martens for years. They have a ton of different kinds. They look great, are comfortable and last for years.

Redwing. Tough, rebuildable, expensive. Best choice for work boots, & carbon toes.
New Balance. Comfortable, disposable, cheap online.

As my knees wire out, I got more and more bow legged, and started eating shoes rapidly, walking about 8+ miles a day. So for disposable shoes, fresh pair a month, Lands End for sneaker types. But New Balance was a better bargain all in all.

Like many things, helmets, for example, most important is fit to YOU.

Multi hundred dollars insole with high pressure sales? That's what works for a friend, and she's a tiny thing. Good quality human cost stuff works too, for her, but she went the cheap no good gourmet good decent good route.

If you get bone spurs..... Shudder, the answer is the same. Viscoelastic insoles, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3628103

All the usual suspects in foot pain should be considered. Excess weight, foot arch too high or low, knee deterioration, CIA mind control rays.....

I have been very happy with these:

Skechers work boots

The leather has a very nice color to it, and the soles are non slip, chemical resistant, etc... I used to be a New Balance snob, but after buying the shoes and the inserts I'm $250 short...

These Skechers have been great and required no inserts. I'm on my feet on a concrete floor 11-13 hours every day, and then I go to the gym and run 2-4 miles on a treadmill.

RedWings, Throrogoods, both kind of pricey but worth it.

I have a pretty high arch.
Used to wear only Tony Lama boots, then Warren Buffet bought the company and changed them to shit. rich
Bought a couple of pairs of Lucchese and liked them, can't find them in elk skin anymore.

Bought a pair of high-tops off the interwebs, made in Canada.
Brand is Boulet, model "Shooter", 18" tops and super comfy... I LOVE them!!

Also have a pair of Chippewa Black Rally riding boots that I like a lot.

Have you heard SAS shoes? Since I work a retail job, which means I need to stand or walk all day, and uncomfortable shoes can totally ruin my day. So I bought a pair of SAS shoes on ebay: https://dealspure.com/eBay-Promo-Codes/Coupons/P15 SIIA66Q?t=%28262062%29 they feel great!

After my back surgery many years ago research and much testing had me into Nike air soles. I used cross trainer shoes for many years. But like always that gets onto trends and they ended up looking so stupid I quit them. But it's ok. I found recently that the air sole hi top basket ball shoes are far more comfortable than their walking shoes.

For my more serious days I have a pair of Asolo hiking shoe/boots that are pricy but OMG, if you know how to get them fitted correctly, you will not find a better ridged sole shoe that does everything well.

I got this pair just after I bought my Uly in 06. Walking on concrete every day, climbing ladders, and on trucks and trailers, walking on rough gravel, to walking in malls and even riding the Uly. Water proof even. Best described as when on your feet you forget that they are there. This from sensitive feet plugged into sensitive spinal nerves. Unmatched quality for a price. Kind of like owning the other end of a $100 Tilley hat.

My wife is a nurse.....She no longer works on an active hospital floor, but spent quite a few years on her feet 12 hours a day. When I asked her, with no hesitation, she said anything by Rockport. Makes sense, thats all my Mom wore for years back when she owned and ran a bakery. Nothing flashy, just well made shoes that are designed for people who bust their hump all day long.

Rockport! Thumbs up.

You can also check a "Uniform Store" that serves nurses and/or police and/or Postal employees.

Some shoes are eligible for the postal uniform allowance. They will have non slip soles, minimum. Cross reference what the nurses are buying, and you've got the good stuff. ( Postal employees get about $200 a year in credit for uniforms. That gets three pairs of pants & a shirt, or a half a raincoat. )

Just being postal approved isn't a promise of painless walking, just grip safety.

+1, Rockport. I'd forgotten about them, used to wear them myself. Thanks so much guys, keep 'em coming.

Gotta put the garden in today, might go shoe shopping tomorrow.
