So, again I'll ask all youn's advice: What does anyone know about CBD oil? Apparently it's a hemp oil extract, no THC, and it supposedly treats lots of different maladies.

We've got a Chihuahua/Jack Russell (dachshund?) mix that suffers seizures, and they're coming about once a week now. He's already taking phenobarbital twice daily, and potassium bromide once in the evening. Without going back to the vet to increase those dosages (which are reaching higher thresholds), should we try this stuff? Heck, the reading I've done says it helps anxiety, inflammation, aches and pains, yaddayadda. Makes me want to try it for my old achy carcass!! I've read several product reviews on Amazon, checked out a site that my sweetie's daughter recommended, and so on. All we know is that we'd LOVE to find a way to at least decrease the frequency of these events, without raising the dosage of the two he's already on.

Thanks in advance, friends. We all love our furkids... this little guy is truly the best guard dog on the planet, 1000% devoted to his mama, so we gotta take care of him by all means.

CBD is a non psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. Quite a lot of the positive effects you'll read about are from the legalize pot crowd, and should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, the WHO says CBD might treat epilepsy. Might. But, from what I can discern, there are no negative effects, so it shouldn't hurt to try it.

Check liver function to see if things are way high, that can cause seizures as well and points to a bigger problem.

I have a couple family members that suffer from arthritis, they rub some on in the morning and in about 10 minutes the inflammation is gone and joint function and pain is all but back to normal.
They both swear by it.

If I had an similar ailment, i would be trying it.

Some parents of children prone to seizures have found great improvement with CBD after exhausting all other medical remedies. Will it work for dogs in the same way and does your dog have that kind of seizures? Maybe.

Thanks all for your $.02, keep 'em coming. I'm generally hearing very positive things from a lot of folks, still studying things.

Greg- these seizures manifested a couple of months after an incident where he severely impacted his head. The dosage levels for his two pills already have us watching him from time to time at the vet for liver issues.

We were sitting around my outside deck table, and Rocky just loves to walk up and jump in your lap. Unfortunately I was sitting a little too close to the table, and WHAM!, he jumps right into the outer metal rim of the table. Sounded like a hammer blow, scared the bejezzus outta me. At the time it didn't seem to faze him, but sure enough, several weeks later my sweetie calls me at work in hysterics, at the late nite ER vet hospital ($$$!!), and suddenly we have an epileptic Chihuahua. Weirdly, I grew up with a rescue Chihuahua that also had seizures, so it was less of an adjustment for me than for her when Rocky started up. Still sucks, so we're probably gonna try this stuff out. I'd like to see how it might help my aching bones after work, and my left foot in the AM.

I vote for trying it on the little feller.

On yourself, I don't know.

I found some "shatter" that is high in CBD, puff it in a vape pen.
Really helps several types of nerve pain I have.
It has helped me substitute gabapentin for the Tramadol I have taken for 6 years.

My doc at the VA is happy as long as my piss test is clean. Federal shit...

The creator knew what he was doing when he made cannabis. The Israelis have been using CBD for years to treat various diseases.

Zac- that's pretty impressive. RD, you met my little Cujo, and yes, he deserves all the best I can provide for him. Never had a more devoted dog, except for one...

+1000, Fast. Hemp alone should be widely accepted, given all its uses- heck, we 'Muricans never would have been able to sail to Plymouth Rock without it. My beloved, late aunt had to deal with cancer twice, and the second time it got her. She was prescribed Marinol, and hated it, too strong. Other, better means to that end were found. Also had a great friend, sadly suffered from hemophilia, and more sadly got a blood transfusion before they knew to screen for the AIDS virus... good KB was key to his quality of life. I took him his last groceries before he passed.

Looking forward to my USPS guy showing up this week. ; )

Hemp is widely accepted. The feds don't like it because it looks like pot from the air.
