I'm going to be in Ft Worth the last full week of the month for the 3D printing trade show. Unfortunately, by the time I got my approvals through the government employer's red tape, every hotel within a few miles is sold out. I have a reservation that covers my room and such, but its a bit farther than I want to hike, and public transit adds about an hour and a half each way. I was thinking about renting a car to commute back and forth with and pay to park in a downtown ramps. I eat light dinners when I travel so my per diem ought to offset the parking fees.(but rental cars are not approved) I had so much fun riding in Frisco last year, I thought I'd see if any locals know of a good shop I could rent a bike at. If its cheap enough, (which rules out Eagle Rider, and Twisted Road right away), I might forgo the car and just putt around on a bike all week. In a perfect world it would be a small shop that has used bikes for sale that they're not opposed to renting out at economy car rent rates. Somehow, 20 bucks a day for a Yaris, doesn't seem like as good a deal as paying a few bucks more for a bike. Maybe because its April, I only got a couple hundred miles on 2 wheels during a Florida trip last month, and were going to get more snow this weekend. (I think I'm going through rider's withdrawal.) Anybody got a shop to recommend for me? |

... I'm in E. TN, don't know anyone, but maybe you could PM a few of the folks in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area- this thread has been kinda dead for a few years now though. Good luck! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 80418.html?1415374976 BTW- my sis once lived in Waco TX, took me to a Museum of Modern Art in Ft. Worth, IIRC- there's (was?) an ORIGINAL IMAX theater there! WELL worth heading there to see what REAL IMAX is, instead of the crapola they have at most multiplexes nowadays. The museum had original Warhols, some Lichtensteins (sp?), lots of eye candy. (This was DECADES ago however, so my info may be off.) |

Oh, remembered something- IIRC Tom (sifo) posted up a new service where individuals with bikes they're not riding could put them up for rent- they'd be vetted, insured, and such. Sounded far-fetched, but hey. This was probably buried a few months ago in a QB thread archive, good luck on finding it. Maybe Google? |

Twisted road was the one I looked at awhile ago. Full of Kymco 250cc sport bikes, haha. Not sure if they're still around? TURO is one like that to rent cars from individuals. Hertz rents BMW bikes. |

If you are looking at renting a car, check out Turo, it is similar to AirB&B but for personal cars, so you get a better selection of vehicles than your local Hertz. https://turo.com/ There is also Riders-Share which is the same thing but for motorcycles. I've been tempted to sign up so some of my bikes collect less cobwebs https://www.riders-share.com/ I've not used either of these services, but I've heard great things about Turo at least. New12r used it last weekend to rent a Mustang GT and was happy with the experience. |

Other solutions could be: Uber/Lyft? The apps can estimate for you. Rental bicycles for $1 a ride. Some let you park them anywhere, not just at specific locations. Limebike is one. Just hike to the show the first day and 3-D print out a bike to ride! |

Thanks to all for the tips. I'll let you know if anything cool shakes out. My plate's pretty full with meetings and suc,h even after hours, so I don't know how much tourism I'll get in. I'm still trying to figure out when I'm going squeeze time to see my niece and nephew and their parents in Flower Mound. Froggy: I'll do a little research on Turo, Thanks. A reminder cowbells only scratch paint if they clang. Shoggin: 3D printed bikes ( well mostly) have been done. Heck even I've done wheels. |

Thanks for the advice all I ended up booking a car through Turo ( my first time with online sharing) although it was cheaper to ren there the deliveryt fee offset the savings. but I'll avoid the shuttle buses to the rental lot in DFW. I'll let you know how it works out. I'm still a little bummed I couldn't find a bike in the same price range. |
