"That's all I can stands; I can't stands no more!" - Popeye the Sailor Today, I'm in a bad mood. First, my furnace isn't putting out heat. Then, I read the latest e-mail from the NRA. This shit has to stop. It's time to do something. I'm not a gun owner. I have owned guns in the past, but since I don't hunt any more, I let them all go. But I believe in Freedom. I believe in the right to keep and bear arms. I think that an armed populace can keep the government from taking away an excessive amount of my freedoms. I'm a person who believes in "Live and let Live". I'm tired of jamokes trying to run my life the way they think I should live. If they're so concerned with protecting the lives of out kids, why don't they start by banning Cell phone usage in a motor vehicle? How many kids a day are dying because of cell phones? Instead, they want to focus on guns. Maybe instead of focusing on guns, they should focus on phones? Oh. right; it's OK to be staring at your phone instead of the road; besides, it would be a major inconvenience if little Enchilada had to wait to learn that Influenza was going to break up with Rubella. If we let them take away our Right to defend ourselves from an over reaching Government, how long will it be until they decide that motorcycles are dangerous and should also be banned? And what about knives? If they manage to get all the guns, how much will violent crimes committed with knives increase? Then they'll be coming after your Carving knives and meat cleavers and nobody really needs a machete, now, do they? I'm pretty disgusted with the whole disarm the American Populace thing that's going on. It's time to get off my fat ass and do something. So I did. This morning, I joined the NRA. |

Thanks John! I've been a member since 82 and have graduated up to a Benefactor member over those years. At NRA conventions I've listened to John Bolton, Ted Nugent, Oliver North, Glenn Beck and Wayne LaPierre. These are all freedom loving folks who really give a rats keester! Welcome to the club! Like so many things in life, for a long time I didn't put much thought into the right to bear arms. Once I started paying attention to the arguments on both sides, it became an avalanche of decisive information supporting one side. The really sad part is that if you total all of those killed in mass shootings, it wouldn't be even noticeable to the numbers who have been slaughtered by governments after disarming their populations. We like to pretend that our government, one of the best the world has seen, would not participate in those sorts of atrocities, but the simple fact is that they have already shown we are not immune to this. Just look at the Wounded Knee massacre for one example. No doubt some lives could be saved by taking away guns from the people. No doubt, this would lead to others being killed because of this. This is the other side of the coin that you will virtually never hear in the media. |

We need to ban spoons to decrease obesity! The really sad part is that if you total all of those killed in mass shootings, it wouldn't be even noticeable to the numbers who have been slaughtered by governments after disarming their populations. Well said! |

Welcome. I get American Rifleman for the articles and tech information. Example, "Russian Sniper weapons through 1945" and the monthly diagram/instructions on how to strip a X historical gun. That kind of thing is online now, but I'm a tech geek and want it on the shelf for the next time I have to take apart, say, a M1891 Moisson Nagant for my In laws or friends. I gave a M44 carbine to my Bro in law, from Gander, $99, covered in hardened Soviet Goo. Then I ended up cleaning & adjusting it for him. Mineral spirits. It's the model with the permanently affixed, side-folding cruciform-spike bayonet, and is designed to be shot with the blade extended. Kicks nice and briskly and sounds like a cannon. Very loud. The rifle versions are much more pleasant to shoot. For a more aggressive view of gun control laws and legal background, from some folk that take "Never Again" Seriously, try... http://jpfo.org/ Here's a blunt truth video. http://jpfo.org/filegen-n-z/ngn-download-view.htm There's lots more. |

The predicted democrat avalanche in the fall will likely fizzle. All any opponent has to do is show video clips of the Dems calling for a repeal of the 2nd amendment. This should bring out all those who tend to sit on the sidelines. |

One thing you new guys will have to get used to is the barrage of mail from the NRA. They are constantly giving away trinkets if you send in X amount of money. Just ignore them unless you have some disposable income you'd like to part with. I throw money at them once in a while but please don't get angry at them as some of my other friends have gotten. Just use the extra mail to start a fire or something. |

Crusty, I use the car accident vs. gun death statistics (ruling out suicide) against anti-gunners all the time, but they don't care. It doesn't matter to them. It's ignored or explained away that 'cars aren't made to kill'. I usually point out that, while they aren't designed to kill, they're doing a much better job at it. What I love about the NRA is that we are voices speaking for ourselves with paid membership vs. other groups that 'speak' for the 'masses' with no real numbers. There's a joke in the FCC episode of family guy where they say that one complaint equals 1 billion people. When twenty people complained, twenty billion people complained. I don't live in a particularly conservative area and everyone shoots. It's amazing. I worked in a bicycle shop in highschool. The owner was cool, but a complete hippie (Oberlin, OH). He even collects old VW buses. I recently ran into him at my local indoor range shooting in a league match. He's the LAST person in the world I would have expected to be an avid enthusiast. I would like for gun owners to be able to be more open about the sport without being stigmatized. |

I've been a Life Member for close to 40 years. The other day, my wife asked if she should join.I never wanted to pressure her, but just come to her own conclusions. |

...the car accident vs. gun death statistics... Not really valid. Beaten to death vs. shot by rifles is valid. If your are being logical. How many die from cancer vs. stabbing is really meaningless... except when pointing out hypocrisy, which is REALLY your point in the car vs. guns argument. And as you see, they can't accept that they are being hypocritical, since believing contradictory things are a requirement to buy the propaganda of the left. People who buy into the Big Lie scam are capable of telling you they can't possibly give you their stuff just because you ask for it. Then demand Free Education/Medicine/Service/Give-away-of-the-moment , as a Right! Thinking the logic through on that is actively discouraged. Otherwise rational humans can be seduced. They just won't admit that their parroted viewpoint is based on illogical emotional sales strategy. Those who do are cast out of the popular girls group. So the pressure to conform is high, and the validation for being a good parrot is huge. And there's a big advantage to not caring about the truth when you are running a con. |
